I'm rereading Ciconia and I noticed something huge during the scene where Miyao meets Toujirou early on.

The waitress comes. Toujirou orders a coffee. He asks Miyao what he wants to drink. The narration says something that implies Miyao blanked out for a a moment. Miyao says he wants some tea. At that moment, Toujirou asks for the check and says he's gotta leave soon because he has no time. Miyao is confused by this.

I think this scene is implying that Meow took control and discussed something with Toujirou without letting Miyao know. He was forcefully shut down and by the time he regained consciousness and said that he wanted tea, Toujirou was already done with the conversation, the coffee and everything. When Toujirou noticed he came back, he pretended nothing happened.

This also explains why Toujirou doesn't seem to ask about Meow or give a shit about her even though his kid is known for being a schizo with DID which is literally the reason he's a gauntlet knight. He knows about Meow and is secretly working with her.

I noticed something that might be a clue. The letter C in the title of Ciconia when they cry which is always red in the WTC series isn't the only one this time: the words Phase and You are also red. When you put the first letters of these three words together, you get CPY. This doesn't make any sense of course, but when you leave the word You as is, you get:

This could just be a coincidence, but it certainly does fit with the world and themes of Ciconia.

Who else could've given Toujirou the password to Miyao/Meow's gauntlet, which he used to kill Lingji? Meow is in on it. Sure, he could've just hacked Miyao's gauntlet from outside the matrix, if they are even in one. But the novel points out that passwords are incredibly complex and almost impossible to brute force. When the drones attack the cities, they mention that this must have been done by an insider that knew the password to control the drones. It couldn't have been a hacker. And they bring this up again in the scene where Miyao gets the passwords from an enemy kette and controls their gauntlets himself to shoot down his own missiles. Why else would they introduce this stuff if it isn't to point out that Meow gave Toujirou free access to the gauntlet?

I bet Toujirou also arranged for the golden gauntlet thing with his COU contacts and made it so Keropoyo ran a diagnostic or update right at that moment, to disable her shield.

I also think Phase 2 will end with Miyao and Jayden going meta within the matrix and becoming Blueyao/Bluejayden. Blueyao is probably in contact with Meow too, we just never see her point of view.

The world itself will reset because they are all fucked by the end of phase 1. The surviving gauntlets will be questioned about Miyao's order and stripped of their power as soon as they come back from the conflict. Once that happens, it's game over. The young lost all agency and the world is in the boomers' hands, heading towards destruction. I think the victory condition is using their power to prevent the end of the world. Phase 1 had a bad ending because they lost their chance to strike back.

It's weird because Miyao was supposed to kill Koshka according to the prophecies. But Koshka apparently got herself hurt/arrested when she went berserk and attacked the HQ. So did this part of the prophecy fail or does Miyao kill her later on?

They said that the prophecies in the book of revelations came true but 20% of it was wrong. Could this be referring to the Koshka thing too?

If you want to go nuts, here's a theory: The underground lab is entirely within Miyao's mind. Not that he's just imagining it; it's a high-fidelity simulation. Various scientists and engineers have their brains loaded into it, or at least the aspects of their personalities that drive them to seek breakthroughs. We know Miyao has more P3 than currently technology can even access, so who knows what's going on inside his head? There's a prophecy for the future in there too. In the lab, it's "inside the vault." Blue Miyao shows Miyao what's in the vault: the "machine future."

This seems to fit well with the "Vier is mom" theory. Miyao is a supercomputer engineered to host a virtual science lab. In his mind is a virtual copy of mom, who somehow gathers more unwitting science-oriented minds.

What if Miyao is the cause of all the calamities because Mario and all the scientists exist inside his brain and are sending orders to fuck up the 8MS in the real world? This could be the reason Blue Miyao told him to erase himself. If Miyao dies, every crazy scientist in the virtual lab disappears with him, and they can no longer cause earthquakes and shit.

Maybe the end scene where Toujirou reunites with Vier and puts something inside the Venus the Milo's drawer... is also happening inside Miyao's brain, where Vier's virtual copy resides. Some piece of information is being stored in that drawer within his brain.

There is this weird comment near the beginning of the Christmas party, when they are discussing what it would be like to live forever in a virtual world. Jayden says to Miyao "you and I are one flesh, right? We'll always be together no matter where we go." This is the sort of thing that Ryuukishi tries to pass off as a metaphor only to turn out to be literal. What if Jayden is himself a personality of Miyao?

There is also that part where Jayden talks about his old CPP friend in America who he treated like a freak because he didn't know any better. What if Jayden is talking about an alter he repressed/killed/integrated with because he didn't want to be a schizo freak?

There are implications of this shit happening to Naomi. Her profile seems to imply that one of her alters was bothersome, non-cooperative, not co-conscious, or just clumsy with the gauntlet, and they fucked up Naomi's brain with drugs to get rid of this personality for good. It would be like Meow getting erased. If that happened, you could say that "Mitake Miyao" lost some of his memories and emotions as part of the optimization training, which is literally what Naomi's profile says.

There is a scene shortly before the final stretch of the story (it takes place in the afternoon) where Miyao and someone else are discussing how inexperienced gauntlets are being sent to the front lines, and how they are a liability, are more impulsive and willing to risk their lives to increase their rank, don't know about the rules of the order and would probably report its existence to the superiors if they were invited to join.

During this scene, random silhuettes representing these nameless newbies appear. They seem to be made from parts of other sprites and obscured to look like shadows of random people. The one in the middle looks EXACTLY like Bernkastel's OG sprite from Umineko. Same dress and head shape (which appears to be a mix of Vier's head with Gannet's body).

It could be a coincidence, but it's just so suspicious. Anyone can tell at a first glance that this person looks like Bernkastel. Ryuukishi couldn't have done this accidentally by toying around with sprite parts, it's impossible not to notice the resemblance. So it has to be on purpose.

There is also a scene after the credits where Jestress is flying over the sea (an actual sea) chasing a gauntlet knight. She implies that she's done ALL this shit just to get a chance to find this person and won't let her get away this time. The narration remarks how this "lone gauntlet knight" is escaping from Jestress' pursuit, "determined not to let her even step on her shadow".

So the literal Lambda expy is obsessed with "someone" and will chase her to the ends of the Earth). She has been "drinking the blood of billions" for this chance. And the narration strangely and unnecessarily remarks that this LONE gauntlet knight (Bern was characterized as someone who likes being alone and has no friends) won't let the pursuer step on her shadow. What a coincidence, he's using the same metaphor that was used in EP8 to describe Bern's afterimages. The whole "Bern's shadow" thing and comparing her to a "reflection of the moon on the water" happened a lot in Umineko. And where is this chase taking place? In the middle of the sea, at night. Too many coincidences. Not only does it fit with the moon metaphors during the Bern vs Battler scene, it's actually very fitting that the two characters who represent the Umineko voyagers are in the middle of the ocean, where Umineko technically takes place.

Seriously, read the scene where Battler punches Bern and the chase scene at the end of Ciconia. The metaphors are the same. There is also a scene after that where Seshat wakes someone up in the underground lab and says she needs this person "to call those two back here". Does she mean... THOSE two?

Strangely enough, a lot of people (I've counted more than 10 so far) miss out on these connections because they assume that Jestress is chasing Koshka. Not only that, they seem to believe this was heavily implied in that scene. Which is baffling because at no point is this implied at all, so I don't know HOW so many readers are reaching this conclusion. How the hell do they even come up with this? There is absolutely nothing to indicate that this person is Koshka. Where is this coming from? I really don't get it.

Sure, there is a scene right before the Jestress one where Koshka is lying on the ground having killed some officials and being arrested, while she says that she's finally getting a new body in the new world or whatever. But this is a random scene that has no connection with the other after credits scenes, they are ALL random and disconnected from each other. And during the main story we see that Koshka and Miyao are talking face to face in the same battlefield (which I assume is the glass sea, since they are fighting the COU) before Koshka heads out to go apeshit and turn on her superiors. This is taking place in the middle of a massive sea of glass, while the Jestress is flying over an actual sea. Koshka couldn't have possibly gone to the other side of the planet in order to appear in this scene.

And I still don't get why they think it's Koshka and not literally any other character in the cast, since the scene itself doesn't hint at anyone in the cast other than vague references to Bernkastel and metaphors associated with her.

TL;DR: It might not be literally Bern, but the coincidences are unreal and have to be intentional.

This is what I'm curious about. I don't see why Koshka comes to so many readers' minds when they read that part. Why Koshka specifically? We see her basically die in the previous scene after doing what she said she was gonna do, and then we immediately jump to a completely different place where Jestress is chasing someone who is never implied to be Koshka or anyone else.

My bet is on Number 3. During the Christmas party, they bring up things like "can the human soul tolerate the concept of eternity?" and Jayden replies that "you could always shave off your old memories". Obviously, this is hinting at the idea that they are all brains in jars connected to a matrix that simulates the A3W world and their memories are being erased with each iteration (probably what the data fragments are, useless slice of life memories they lost to save space in the server).

But these ideas also apply to the metaphysical entities that call themselves "voyager witches" in Umineko, which is why Number 3 is the most likely theory in my opinion. Can the human soul tolerate eternity? No, they go fucking nuts at some point and desperately try to escape from boredom, because if their minds stop receiving stimulus they stop thinking and "die" until something catches their attention again. Their personalities twist into cruel shadows of their human selves, looking for more intense excitement. At some point in their eternal life, they will have experienced so many things nothing can surprise them anymore. They will "die" and stay dead for longer and longer periods of time each time it happens. This is what's happening to Featherine and the reason Voyager Witches are said to "fear becoming creators" in the EP4 postgame tips.

So it's possible that Lambda and Bern, trying to escape from boredom, reached the same conclusion as Jayden. "Shaving off your old memories" in order to experience things as if they were new. For a meta creature like Lambda, this means temporarily becoming human in some fragment and living an entire life as someone else, unaware of their experiences as witches. They are basically challenging each other to a new game, except this time they are important PIECES on the gameboard instead of meta players. They made themselves humans, created their own backstories, gave their avatars roughly their same personalities and dived in.

It's the equivalent of playing a VR game except you totally forget who you are in the real world until the game ends, at which point you "remember" your real identity and realize that your life until that point was just an avatar in a fictional setting.

TL;DR: Lambda and Bern chose to temporarily reincarnate as humans as a way to get rid of boredom and experience genuine fun/fear/anxiety/excitement/etc. without all the baggage of their memories and their immortal, jaded minds. Lambda chose to become a key player who is allied with the illuminati and Bern chose to become a random newbie gauntlet knight.

Bern wasn't really a bad guy, she was just playing the part in Umineko. She learned from Battler that the goal of a game is having fun, not determining who wins or loses. So their little game in the world of Ciconia probably has no goal for either of them. Their human selves DO have goals and genuine desires/fears, but in the end, no matter how the story ends, they'll just wake up from their daydream and remember their real identities and reminisce about how exciting their lives were. After all, having genuine life experiences as non-self-aware humans is much more exciting than being aware of their immortal status at all times.

But aside from that, the themes of the story and the whole "weaponized teenagers with mental illnesses" thing are obviously inspired by it. Lilja is interesting because she looks VERY similar to Asuka and has a similar personality too. Her character profile says that the Geroy researchers call her "clay girl". And her name sounds close to "Lilith", Adam's first wife who is a key part of Evangelion's plot. So the "clay girl" thing could mean that she's somehow a stand-in for Lilith, who was made from CLAY just like Adam and eventually rebelled, cucked Adam and gave birth to a bunch of demons. That's when God erased her from the Bible canon, and took one of Adam's ribs to make Eva.

Lilja is Lilith: a human woman made of clay, not a genetic clone subservient to Adam. And Asuka, who looks just like her, eventually becomes the last woman on Earth in EoE and fucks Shinji, the new Adam.
