Your focus in the first year and maybe even the second should be audio assisted text. That is Japanese subtitled anime, audio books with corresponding text or to a lesser degree voiced visual novels. Make anime cards from those sources as detailed by the anime cards guide. I am confident this is the most efficient way to go about gaining comprehension of Japanese.

I don't think that's what I said. I think I professed my love for DJT many times, even writing an entire guide the size of a bachelor work to help people out and still posting here despite being in plenty of active Japanese learning Discords including DJT related ones, and the fact that part of my programming goals is helping people out with the ideas for Japanese learning tools I had.
I am simply upset with people who feel the need to constantly talk shit to me, blowing mistakes I did completely out of proportion claiming I can't read Japanese at all despite clear evidence for the contrary, or straight up lying about me. All that despite never claiming to be fluent and saying I am still learning. Also while avoiding every challenge to do better, for example, Jamal took a week to make one vocaroo, and then talks shit to me because in 10 vocaroos I made within minutes I made a reading mistake, not to mention his complete refusal to do the quiz himself. How lame is it that he claims to know more Japanese than me despite self admittedly still consuming with English subs and running away from every single challenge to could prove he isn't talking about of his ass. Really a lot of people in this thread don't care for how consistently you can be good if they find something they can jump on and tear you apart for just because it's a cheap form of self-validation. I find that behaviour to lack character.

Its more important to immerse yourself and learn through experience than know everything in a bubble. Obviously you still need an introduction though, which the guide takes care of. Also this tends to be a more enjoyable guide to follow, which helps to keep you motivated.

You don't need to read it, you just listen to the character talking and internalize the reading of what is on the screen. As long as you know kana and maybe the first ~100 or so common kanji, you can start consuming (JP)subbed anime as a kickstarting point to expand your kanji retention

Really the goal is to just finish a grammar guide and start reading. The sooner the better. Having a small basis in vocab helps, which is why core is rec'd in the first place, but beginners start to use it as a crutch and never actually learn jap. You want to be getting out of the core deck or whatever you use as soon as possible, and only mine relevant kanji when reading/watching.

kanji are just too fucking useful, i ended up relying so much on kanji to infer the meaning of a similar-sounding word that it makes it really hard sometimes to properly understand vocabulary meaning from sentence/context without seeing the kanji
Example would be things like 使う vs 作る vs 付く (especially when conjugated in a sentence), it can be really confusing and short-circuit your brain if you're not used to listening to the language and inferring meaning from a sentence without relying on text. You need to practice your vocabulary and listening way more than just reading, reading can come at a later time / with less priority.

We can use my current card number as the minimum amount of words I know as I don't have duplicates. And I can definitely say my Japanese passive vocabulary is higher than my card count not to mention I deleted like 2000~3000 cards a few months ago so I'm probably somewhere between 20k and 25k in terms of passive vocabulary. I don't know if this question is appropriate but I just wanted to ask you fellas on here if me, a non-Asian white male in the US, putting in some effort into learning Japanese, makes me a weeb. My ex-girlfriend, who is Korean, told me she would make fun of me to no end calling me a weeb and such if I were to learn either Japanese or Korean, and found it weird and creepy for me to express any interest in either subject. Honestly she was kind of racist and told me that if Japan or South Korea kicked out all non-Asian people she wouldn't have a problem with it, which is not cool. I am interested in putting in some effort into trying to learn Japanese (or Korean, as I've heard it's easier and I'm not good with language learning) but I'm worried about the perception, what people would think of me. I tried learning German for some time as I'm of mainly German ancestry and that was a good time and I've learned a bit, I just wanted to diversify my skill set a bit more. I don't even really like anime or anything I'm just very interested in the country and culture and may want to live there someday. Is that so wrong? Any constructive responses would be much appreciated, I just need some confirmation that doing this is perfectly fine. What is your point though?
Anki will speed up learning information no matter how common it is and anime cards make it better regardless of how common the information they are used to learn is. If you are making proper cards they are checked for duplicates and you will only have unique cards and all those pre-10k cards you made you will practically never fail and not lose time on.
Saying you will not mine anything common because you will learn it naturally is dumb for that reason. Reviewing information in Anki doesn't take up a static amount of time, easier information is reviewed much much faster and it can be made even faster if you tweak your settings.

If I had to start learning a new language right now I'd familiarize myself with the most common few hundred words and look into basic grammar before diving into compelling content. Second, you don't use は with an adjective like きれい, you use が.
月はきれい would be incredibly wrong, it leaves the listener to think "what exactly is きれい?" because certainly it isn't the moon.
Third, the 今夜は being the topic actually enhances the statement that the moon is especially beautiful. By having 今夜は in the sentence you are actually making the moon the point of focus of the sentence in a more evident way, achieving exactly what you seem to want.
