i like it.
the philosophy of ciconia is really deep and beautiful, with pepe the frog is literally /pol/ tier.
the problem is the characters, too many women and too few adults.
the best character mario doesn't even have a sprites.
then another big problem is the repetition, too many topics are repeated too many times.
could very well become a masterpiece if ryukishi removed the clichés from the characters and stopped trying to dilute the story to make it longer to justify the high price.

It does have a really cool setting that could potentially host a story as good as the previous entries, just hard to judge WTC after first episode when the stories really start in the second one

The only issue I take with it is that ryukishi is not that good about worldbuilding and the whole episode is nothing but worldbuilding but that's not gonna be that relevant for the next 7 parts now that he's done introducing the characters and setting

Since I've finished Higurashi, I still have a few questions I would like to see answered. I figured out some of the mysteries by myself but what about those ?
HEAVY HIGURASHI SPOILERS

1) Why does Takano lend hers diaries to Shion and Rena ? Does she have an ulterior motive to do so ? I thought at first she planned their paranoia by doing so but I don't believe it. Was it just a whim ?
2)Why is Rena in chapter 6 wanted by the Yamainu ? because she's a good guinea pig with her paranoia for Takano ?
3)In Chapter 1, the police says at the end that Keiichi's testament was not complete, the part about the syringe and the serum. Did Keiichi really write this part or did Oishi take it out ? If so, why ? Or who ?
4)Do we agree on the fact Hanyu is not real and a delusion of Rika ?
5)On the same topic, because fuck magic and all this shit, what is the explanation about Rika's powers and this death and rebirth cycle ? Was Rika in a coma for a month like Higurashi Rei seems to imply and she would have dreamed the different Fragments ?(kind of similar to the bottles of Umineko)
If not, what is the explanation behind her powers and all the knowledges she has about the events to come ?
5)In chapter 3, when Rena and Mion wants to go on a treasure hunt with Keiichi, can we assume they want to brief him about his alibi because they know he killed Teppei ?

1)What happened to Teppei's body ? Now that I think about Chapter 6 it could be Mion's doing but she doesn't know at all where Keiichi buried the corpse. And it's not the first hole, it's said clearly.
2)Why does Satoko think her uncle was with her the night before and this morning ? I know she can mix up people because of her illness but if so, who was in the house with her at this moment ?
3)how did Oishi know about Keiichi and where he buried the corpse ? Did Irie call him or was Keiichi just followed ?

But I always liked the idea that Keiichi spent so much time planning the murder and digging the first hole, that he completely forgot about the fact that he lost sight of it and had to bury Teppei in a new hole. It would be funny if the hole he checked was the original empty one because most events from that night were blurry in his head and he didn't even remember that his original plan had derailed a bit.

Keiichi basically spelled his plans out during his phone call with Shion, who pretended to be Mion when she realized Keiichi was the one calling. She probably told Mion and they arranged to have some people follow Keiichi that night and find out where and what he was attempting to do. They probably moved it that night.

The next morning, they all made an Umineko tier alibi for Keiichi, just like the villagers did during the dam protest according to Ooishi in Arc 4 (they would ALL claim that a villager who stabbed a construction worker in the ass or assaulted a policeman had an alibi and dozens of people would testify in his favor in court, making the whole thing impossible to prove).

Rena and Mion knew that Keiichi would freak the fuck out in his usual overdramatic wears-his-thoughts-on-his-face way if they attempted to explain the situation to him. Just the realization that the entire class knows about his crime would make him faint or say something out loud, digging his own grave.

So they played dumb and tried to make him understand that they were faking his alibi, but he was going nuts and took it the wrong way. After that, they tried to take him to the dump site and explain the details of their constructed alibi (like Shion did for Satoshi) to make sure the story is consistent if interrogated by the police. They wanted to talk to him in a solitary place like that to make sure his freak out wouldn't draw any suspicions from anyone. That's why they didn't leave him alone for a second, they wanted to make sure today's alibi was perfect too.

But he fucking refused because he was suspecting doppelganger shit and saw them as creepy in his delusional state. He made up some bullshit about being sick and wanting to visit the clinic, so they were really persistent about him asking for a receipt (to have a solid alibi for this day too, making it impossible for the police to claim that he moved the corpse or anything). But he found even THAT creepy and got scared again.

Satoko was probably sick as hell after being abused and spending so long without taking the medication she needs even in her normal life. She was probably dreaming weird shit about Teppei and remembering those nightmares as facts because she can't tell reality from fiction anymore.

I can't help but wonder how disappointed people coming from Umineko end up being when they read Higurashi. Especially if they were the kind of reader who didn't think, trying to make things right by looking at the story from a mystery angle.

Basically, yes. I assume you've read Umineko first, and then went into Higurashi assuming the game was solvable fully within the mystery genre?

The moment where you should have ultimately realized how the story took a definitive turn towards the fantasy genre was in Himatsubushi. No human could explain Rika predicting with such accuracy the murders that were to take place in the following, especially in the case of Satoko's parents which IIRC was something that happened. Doubting Akasaka's memories could have been a possible move, until Tsumihoroboshi.

I read Higuraahi after Umineko and absolutely loved it. I found higu to overall be of a bit lower quality than umi, but much more consistent. Almost every chapter of higurashi was "pretty damn good," while there were some umineko chapters that I absolutely hated. Umineko also had huge pacing problems (especially in the answer arcs), and higu had smaller, more predictable pacing problems, mostly from R07's SoL writing, which I've never found that good. I was also very happy that everything is laid out clearly at the end of higurashi, rather than the pretentious bullshit in umineko. It has its problems, sure, but I still think it's great stuff.

This is how I prefer to read both Higurashi and Umineko. PS3 backgrounds with OG sprites. As for cgs, I went through an editted some or replaced them with a blank image. In Umineko console, you'll almost always have the same room background for an entire scene, when the original would shift the background multiple times to different pictures focusing on objects in the room, giving the sense of different camera angles.

I didn't really like it. I'm only going to give phase 2 a try because I have faith in R07 and liked all of his other works, but the first episode of Ciconia just had me bored out of my mind. It's nothing like Umineko where the first episode left such a big impression on me that I read all of the questions arc in one sitting after finishing it.
These are probably common complaints but I mainly hated how repetitive it was and how flat most characters were (most, if not all, adults are cartoonishly evil and most Gauntlet Knights don't even have more than 3 lines).

This is a contradiction, and seems to indicate that Shannon is going to the mansion for another reason. How do you explain this without her being involved in the murders?

Hey I can agree on this. The Erika=dead theory apeared some time ago on tumblr. However, the answer turned out wrong because site owner regarded the logic error as a clear answer that Kanon and Erika are separate bodies, which I don't agree anymore. The wording of the solution in EP6 is too ambigious. It's a big plus that the theory explain the existence of Erika's Piece because it makes the 3 wxxx-dunnits of the mastermind (doesn't matter which theory) much more clearer.

the mastermind is yasu but George does the exact same thing as Kinzo!!!!!!
as kinzo george was a puppet in the hands of his family but when he met shannon his life changed and like happened to kinzo when he met beatrice castiglioni.
kinzo for fear of losing her he decided to kill them all george do the same.

The pros of Shkanontrice vastly outweight the pros of one culprit theories for me. I've never been a fan of George culprit theories.
When I'm done with EP7 and 8 we'll have a proper discussion about the actual solutions. I haven't read the manga solutions but I'm pretty satisfied with what I came up with (with a friend of mine who read along for the first time) for EP3 and 4.
In EP4 especially (since you dislike it), I don't think Yasu convinced everyone to play along in a game, she did trick and use Kyrie, by telling her that Kinzo is dead to use against Krauss, as long as she played along with her plan, then drugged everyone to make them allucinate Kinzo, killed them, got Kyrie and Krauss to play along, then Kyrie escaped and tried to warn Battler, but got intercepted by Yasu holding a gun who had her read to Battler her fanfic of how things actually went before killing her.
Gohda and Kumasawa saw the corpses and were honestly frightened, they were not on it. The hint is that Gohda's frantic recollection of what he's seen says nothing about magic, but rather talks about guns. Neither has seen the scene happen.

She tricked pretty much only Kyrie (about her real intentions), George and Jessica, while holding Krauss by the balls. I don't remember how we ended up solving the death of the cousins though, but we were pretty convinced regarding the motivations.

Yeah, it is right. The tip even states that some forgerer put Erika into the illusion of the witch. She may be a reversed U.N.
