Yeah, in fact the final line of Muramasa is a voice only line, which inspired that part of my list. (Not to mention jokes where characters talk in the background with no subtitles. There's at least 3 of those in Muramasa I can remember.). Oh, since you are interested in VNs I guess, there's also a LOT of VNs where the voices don't match the text. The lowest level of this is the "furigana" being spoken while the actual text is written (like 狩人 being written and ハンター/"hunter" being spoken), but the highest level is the voice being completely different lines from the text. Oretsuba has a character whose lines rarely match his voice due to the kind of character he is, it's hilarious reading what he thinks he's saying while listening to him go fucking nuts in voice.

But yeah, in the end every aspect of the language is crucial, except writing probably. If you skimp in any one area it will bite you hard later in some form or another. Nothing feels more cuck than having studied Japanese for like 4 years but being unable to do some basic thing like not being able something simple like understand a basic pun or read a kana-only word or some such.

I'm planning on having a two hour stay at the Tokyo Airport while waiting for a connection flight to Beijing in July 2022, and I'm planning on learning Japanese for the sake of spending those two hours as well. Maybe I'll buy some obscure, untranslated manga there for the sake of bragging about it to my weeb friends. Maybe I might even talk to somebody in Japanese while ordering some food.

So, for the sake of fulfilling this grandiose goal, I have decided to study kanji through James Heisig's Remembering the Kanji vol. 1, got a subscription to Jpod101, and even tried watching some anime on Crunchyroll with subs turned off -epic style.

Have y'all guys got some other recommendations on what else to do? Maybe I should buy some wooden chopsticks too and hire a tutor on italki. I could even try using LingQ, since that gray haired Canadian man on Youtube seems to promote it so avidly, so I suppose there's gotta some merit to it.
