there's no need to make a graph for it.
it works this way:
first you learn about the word in some way or another. you look it up and feel like it doesn't make sense.
the next time you see it, and try to interpret it based on whatever the the dictionary told you it meant. if it somehow corresponds with how it's used in that context, then that's how you'll remember it. if not, you might even go as far as to consult a monolingual dictionary, and mentally draft a translation for the monolingual dictionary entry in your mind.
the third or fourth time you come across it, you try to match up your prior conception of the word, and see that it somehow corresponds (even if not exactly) with whatever the dictionary told you it meant, from then on deciding to just ignore what the dictionary says as some kind of sacred word or guide, and merely as one person's interpretation of words that are used by others too.

To clarify that first part I guess I should have said it from a difficulty perspective, making the jump from difficult light novels to regular novels should not be a problem. It's more of a genre divide, for example I've read science fiction works in english that are much more dense than literary works. As for recommendations I can't help you, I know next to nothing about VNs and mostly consume schlock otherwise. A word is easier to learn when you find it in a context you enjoy, the best and easier way to get into reading is watching a lot of raw anime, so you get used to Japanese, in a premade deck there's no enjoyable context and most people would get burnout doing 10k, and if they do, when they start reading they'll find that they don't know anything.

If you just sit there and grind textbook exercises (which is what most English classes in Japan are about), that's boring and useless, but I wouldn't put down exercises themselves as useless. In a language class, we need to strike a balance between practicing for fluency and accuracy--textbooks can help you with the latter.

I've been studying Japanese for around 3 years now. I've stared in my last year of high school. Learned hiragana/katakana, moved on to kanji by using RTK and Anki, finished 2200 in around 2.5 months, then skimmed through Tae Kim's grammar guide in a week or two, and then immediately moved on to reading VN's with the help of text hooker and programmes that disassemble sentences and give translations to each word. I continued to do it, until I enrolled in university majoring Japanese. And that's when everything took a turn for worst. Everything that I learned by myself has been clashing very strongly with the way the Japanese is taught in classes ever since, like how thorough every kanji is learned with all the readings, how they ask to learn each grammar structure, make new sentences with them, learn new words and so on. Now I am already a second year student, and I feel that not only I learned nothing from my classes and I can't even understand what is being taught to me, but also I forgot what I have already learned by myself. And now I don't study the same way before I went to the uni, because I don't have time with all the Japanese homework. Also I skipped half of my Japanese classes first year because of some difficulties, so that doesn't help the situation either.

This is already becoming rather lengthy, so I'll just ask: do you guys have any advice on what should I be doing? I feel that my grammar is especially bad, next my vocabulary and kanji.

I really don't know what should I do now, so I am asking for help.

It's a long and painful process that going to require thousands and thousands (and thousands, etc) of hours of watching and listening.

But the good news is that if you keep at it - - you will eventually understand a little more each time until you eventually begin to understand a lot more.

It's not easy but neither was time spent learning English from 1st grade up through College.

Tango N5 or Tae Kim will give you the basic vocab/grammar that you'll need in the beginning.

Patience is the key. With as much Japanese as you need to watch and listen to the key is to remember that this is a marathon - - not a sprint.

Danmachi is hard for begining. I'd suggest to go for something easier. I started with Aobuta, now reading danmachi and it's way different. I'm wonder how its a LN aren't LN supposed to be easy with only few kanjis?
