Man, the one thing that threw me off in Umineko was just how cold blooded Kyrie and Rudoph were in Ep7 tea party. I have mixed feelings about it, while yes Kyrie was shown to have a calculating personality, I never thought of her being able to carry out a massacre of her entire family, let alone Rudolph. But I guess a lot of Umineko also comes down to how you can't just put a single label on them like 'womanizer' or 'money-hungry' as they all had more depth than just a single trope and that there might be more hidden beneath that first label surface.

But I think anything not directly witnessed by Eva was a fabrication. She was needessly cruel in a way that only a "monster" imagined by Eva could be. That's probably not the real Kyrie.

Also, she was put in an abnormal situation where she had to choose between easy money and dealing with the consequences of what happened in the underground room. Of course she'd choose the first option. Also, she is already guilty because she shot Rosa. But she probably thought that if she didn't, either Rosa or Eva would carry out a massacre to keep the gold and kill her too. She assumed Rosa and Eva were that kind of person, so she acted first and became the "winner" rather that letting herself be killed.

RGD is as long as 4 episodes of Umineko. Higanbana is more like 2, if you count both nights.

If you are planning to rush through them before Ciconia comes out, give it up. There is NO reason to do that, since neither of them have anything to do with Ciconia whatsoever. Don't ruin them for yourself and read at your own pace.

Reading them first is like reading Higurashi (the anime is a fucking travesty) before Umineko. It allows you to catch all the Higurashi references in the narration, especially during the first two episodes, but it's not necessary to enjoy the story on its own.

So don't try to read them fast in preparation for Ciconia because there is no reason to do that and you'll just ruin them for yourself and not enjoy them one bit. It would be like a rushed, unmemorable, lightning fast summary of the story, like the Higurashi anime. And that's terrible.

But yeah, you could read it in like a week or two. I'm just saying that rushing it without stopping to enjoy the atmosphere or think about the story is a waste. It's consuming a story and killing it without properly getting invested in it, just like Featherine said in EP8.

You can probably read all of RGD between the first episode of Ciconia and the second, since there'll be at least six months between each entry. And if my suspicious are correct, it will be very interesting because it's possible that Ciconia is straight up a "sequel" set in the same universe.

RGD explored even further some of the themes from Higanbana, especially the two chapters featuring Yukari. The loli from Higanbana became a fearless, violent bully to prevent others from taking her position and using it for evil. In RGD, Primavera becomes a fucking murderous mafia because someone has to be at the top of the underworld and it's better if that person has good intentions. The ends justify the means.

Ciconia seems to explore the failure to preserve Japanese culture (at least it's implied that Tokyo is some weird ass 19th century-looking city now) from RGD, but also the fascinating idea of magic (or in this case, technology so advanced it could be considered magic) granting you absolute freedom from the laws of physics, which was a subtle theme in EP3 and EP7 of Umineko.

The Higurashi manga is pretty damn good, if a bit exaggerated with the faces. It's very close to the quality of the Umineko manga, just not as good because it can't quite reproduce every single scene word for word like Umineko does for the most part.

The RGD manga changes some stuff (Nina loses screentime and Xiaolan looks a bit older for some reason), and alters some scenes to be more fitting for a visual medium, but it also adds really nice things that enhance the story if you already read the VN. I definitely recommend checking out the VN first, because it's a more cohesive and satisfying work with perfect pacing, but the manga is pretty interesting and feels like an slightly different retelling of the story.

I gotta say, I really enjoyed that demo! The music is top notch as expected of a When They Cry title, the music perfectly fits the sequences and Miyao is already a very likable protagonist. I like how much personality he already has.

The biggest plot twist so far is that Miyao is actually male and not female, I was 100% expecting him to be a girl based on his design for like a year so I still can't wrap my head around the fact that he's a guy properly lmao

Also, Jayden and Miyao seem to have quite a bit of chemistry and subtext, they're very close and Jayden seems to be crushing on Miyao. Jayden and Miyao's dynamic actually reminds me a lot of Ange and Amakusa from Umineko.

I like how the prologue set up these gauntlets as harmful things that have caused multiple young lives to be lost, and shows how the company behind it is full of propaganda and lies and in the very next scene we get a sequence about how fun, exhilarating and cool these gauntlets are. It does a very good job of contrasting and showing two different sides of the situation and I'm very interested to see where it goes.

The little frog mascot is immensely entertaining already, I like him.

The budget seems greatly upped for this compared to Umineko, there are quite a few bursts of animation here and there. I love the sprites as well, they're so expressive.

The worldbuilding and futuristic setting is also super interesting, I can't wait to see how it's developed when the game comes out.

The most interesting thing I found about it was the frequent and deliberate dissonance in how the world is setup. There's a buildup to a festival celebrating world peace, but when it's finally shown it's paradoxically revealed to be a grand display of military might. The same military that's responsible for these grandiose displays is shown to treat human life as cheap for the sake of creating self sustaining propaganda that's difficult to differentiate from its peacetime festivities.

There's also mention of a great wall that exists as a monument to peacetime, with portents of its fall heralding the start of war. But typically walls aren't associated with peace or unity, and most walls in history are associated with some conflict or segregation. The quote that gives us this information is also from someone with allusions to John. F. Kennedy, who was famously assassinated during the tenuously peaceful period paradoxically called the Cold War.

The dissonance appears in other, seemingly less important aspects of the setting. The world is obviously set in the future, with innovations far beyond what seems fathomable today, presented as technology rather than as magic. But there's a return to old things in other aspects, with the cityscape being dotted with billboards and 19th century European architecture.

Yet the only old person we see in this narrative, that's otherwise populated by improbably young characters, is the senior ranking military officer. Despite his apparent seniority in an organisation known for its clear hierarchical structure, his existence seems irrelevant, with junior officers and staff declining to take his recommendations and another officer feeding him lies to prevent his involvement or knowledge of a situation.

The most important part of the scenario are the Gauntlets. With the many references to the military, and to a peacetime set on shaky foundations, it's difficult to not suspect these wartime weapons of ultimate power will end up being positioned as deterrents to war, a weapon that if most successfully deployed would never have to be used.

All of this was just from the first hour of the episode, but having read Ryukishi's other works it's interesting to guess how much foreshadowing might be in just this small slice of the full game. But I wouldn't be surprised if I'm completely off base, especially since he seems to be teasing us early in when the game basically says 'we need to put in lots of explosions into an early scene to hook the reader' - and then has a scene that does exactly that. Either way, based on what I've seen I'm excited for the rest of the episode.

If just inserting the English script is such a time-consuming job, why did they bother doing it without proof-reading it? How come everything in Hou is machine translated, if apparently the hardest part is inserting the English script? Why spend so much time doing that without touching up the script to make it less... machine-translated? Any human being could do that easily, and it'd be nothing compared to the time it supposedly takes to put the script in the game.

Maybe it's not that hard after all? Because if that's the case, and we already have the translation from MG, it shouldn't be too hard to fix a couple of things and insert that script into the original game.

Machine translated is different, its simple copy and paste work for the most part. Not to mention saikoroshi is short. Lack of proper editting is just the person who did it being lazy or being bad at english.

Dont get me wrong though, what youre wanting would be mostly copy and paste as well, but its the difference between copying and pasting the entirety of Higurashi one line at a time and doing what was pretty much a bulk translate command of a short chapter.

What you're wanting would be much more feasible if you could get multiple people together and split the workload. Instead of making changes in Nscripter, I'd recommend porting to Onscripter. Many improvements were made, natively supports single byte characters, and isn't windows only.

Extract the script from Nscripter.
Make the necessary changes in code to work with onscripter.
Replace the moonrunes with the MG translation.
Fix lines so they're probably fitted and don't cut off.
Make sure the translated lines are in the proper place as I doubt MG did a line by line translation. Something that was one line in JP may be two lines in english.
Translate parts that were cut from MG.
