Sure, at incredibly high speed, without a moment's rest, barely able to see in front of you, while the pattern forces you off to the side and your bombs do nothing.
Back when I was first 1cc'ing games, for every other final boss, I was more or less able to wing it going in with a couple of lives. For Kanako, I eventually perfected the entire first five stages just to have enough lives to burn on her. Even now, I've been able to practice most of her attacks fairly well, but VoWG is still a 1cc killer.
And if we're talking easiest, don't forget about Miko's.

Because as it is right now, that general seems to have no purpose but to be a grouping of people who shitpost about 2hu and don't seem to actually play the games at all, but I can't help but think at some point it must've served a purpose.

How much harder is it to beat LoLK in legacy mode? Obviously you're sure to clear eventually if playing in PD mode, but despite beating it 3 times that way, there's still plenty of times I don't remember what comes next (be it a spellcard or dangerous fairies) and die as soon as it happens (first examples coming to mind being Clownpiece's sideways lasers or Junko's laser erupting balls that are shot straight at you as it starts). Cheating where? Here? Nobody here is going to give a shit if you use the vsync patches for the earlier games, everyone here does that, though you will get laughed at if you're seen using the visible hitbox patch and especially that godawful retexture patch.

>>22019203
>As a beginner
You shouldn't be using the visible hitbox patch either. A skill that you will HAVE to learn is to be able to tell where your hitbox is just by seeing your character in the corner of your eye, and that skill is easiest to learn in EoSD because the game was balanced around not having the visible hitbox.

i compared everything and took notes a while back, and the only visibility improvement i saw was with cirno's spell background, but the original is more a distraction that can be ignored than something that actually obscures bullets. the spike things were also easier to see as yin-yang orbs, but visibility with those wasn't an issue so that basically didn't matter. everything else was about the same or worse.

if you're convinced otherwise, then so be it. but it is a fan hack that takes liberties and looks substantially worse than the original game.

anyone manage to get the sa spell practice exe to work? the one from https://mega.nz/#F!Ulw2kKpK!NGRXQaC7AxfQgygIBAPhKw.. if so, how? alternately, can anyone confirm that it's also borked for them?

i've gotten all the others from there to work except for sa. sa gets past the loading screen then crashes at this exact point in the title screen every time; two beats of the title theme and it's dead. like with the others, i've confirmed that th11.dat is the jp file, and i even tried re-dling both the game (from the nyaa torrent) and the practice exe to make sure the files were good. tried running as administrator and tried compatibility mode for xp and win7 (running win8.1). even tried without pre-existing cfg and score files and with/without applocale and vpatch. i haven't tried booting in jp locale, but i'm hoping that isn't required since it wasn't for the others (and applocale is good enough for eosd). sa works just fine by itself; put many hours into it with no issues.

any ideas? also, does anyone know where these originally came from? i'm guessing that the mega is a re-upload, and maybe the sa exe somehow got corrupted, in which case the original upload might be good. in case it helps, sa exe has a file size of 696,320 bytes with an md5 of b26b9b6ee97a2e055cdaadd59a110c8c.

Probably. Skill and reflexes are certainly required, but so is a varying amount of memorization. You have an easier time if you know what to expect.
>Is there any particular game you would suggest I do focus on?
Something that isn't too heavy on gimmicks, as some skills are more transferable than others.
EoSD is very straightforward.
PCB, IN and MoF are more lenient, but try to build your skills instead of cheesing them through bombs (which are still a key to the 1cc, just remember you're also here to improve yourself).
I think something like EoSD with ReimuA or PCB with ReimuB would be a good bet.

OK, you're panicking and moving way too much which is expected but deathbombing Mystia and losing to Keine's nons is not ideal. Even with bombing i didnt feel like i could get back on a good path and it just spiraled down from there.
Also fuck youma. The slowdown fucks me up so bad when we go back to normal speed.

I saw this in a thrift shop for $10 and picked it up because it was still sealed and why the fuck not. I figured it was something from Touhou. What game should I play as someone new to the series?

>> No.22081651

>>22081068
yes and no. it gets harder about 30 seconds in, so you should experience the change in a standard cap. for the next two minutes it's just variations of that, but some variations are nasty, and you'll have to get past several of those in a timeout (might only see one, or maybe none, in a cap). so there's no timeout-exclusive phase, but a timeout is more than just a test of endurance.
>>22081009
nah, time is the only factor. tested it and there wasn't any difference... besides the annoying blinking boss icon and the potential to kill kanako with your death rattle (bad for practice).
besides, if you want the true hard mode, you play as marisa.

>>22081147
if you're coming from ddp/doj, you might enjoy ufo, eosd, or the pc-98 games (particularly ms) since those have a bit more macro mixed in. no guarantee you'll like ufo's ufo mechanic, though.

The series gets a sort of reboot on Windows, so EoSD (6) and PCB (7) are good starting points. EoSD requires a bit of extra work to run perfectly on Win10.
>it was something from Touhou.
That's Marisa, the second main character of the series (Reimu is the first), so she's in almost every game.

After trying out arcade stick for over a month, this is what I have to say to fellow stick users: don't put it in your lap. It introduces massive unavoidable imprecision because of the way the arcade stick will never be stable in your lap. This is not acceptable for shooting games. Instead, you have to put it on a surface that is fully stable. If it's a table, it cannot be allowed to shake even slightly (to a degree that would be noticeable). It should be pretty much as stable as the floor itself. Unfortunately this is just part of using arcade stick at home, the setup is not trivial.

Is there a good remapper? I am using one that works for all main games except SA and everything from LOLK onward which seems fine but I'd like to have one for these games too.
I am using this one for the games mentioned:
https://www.shrinemaiden.org/forum/index.php?topic=219.0
but it has the issue of sometimes randomly continuing to register buttons i had just pressed as still pressed when I let go of them (i.e. my character will continue to move left when i am not pressing left, or anything for that matter, keep focused when i wanna go fast, etc.). Is there a better not-shitty option? I mean like i said, there is one but it doesn't work on all the games.
On a semi-related note: why can't ZUN just make it so you can properly adjust your controls to a normal keyboard like with any other game? I mean this is something really basic that shouldn't need an explanation, that (as far as i know) no Touhou game has.

I get that thing where game doesn't register me letting go of a button too, except I don't even use a remapper in the first place. Pressing the relevant numpad arrow fixes it.

Pick a game and practice, practice, practice – repeat stages 30, 40, 50 times if you have to, whatever you need to get comfortable with them. If you don't have good dodging skills, the best thing you can do is memorize and route stages. Even if you feel like you aren’t getting better, after enough practice, almost any stage can be trivialized, and you’ll get the ‘feel’ of most spell cards and patterns. Look replays on youtube if you don’t manage to figure out how to deal with certain patterns. Also, focus only on one game (ideally IN, PCB, MoF or WBaWC), because jumping from one to another is only going to make things worse.
I don't think “bomb everything” is good advice as >>22102505 said, because even if you manage to 1cc like that, it's not going to feel right. Use your bombs in spells that you can't consistently capture (make them part of your routes if you need to), and if you start to panic or lose control at any point.
I’m awful at these games but even I have managed to 1cc most of them. I believe in you, anon.

1: learn to stream
2: aggressively move through gaps in attacks with diagonally crossing patterns like Yuugi's Storm on Mt. Ooe or Mystia's Hooting in the Night, or whatever Rumia's second spell is called.
3: Bomb as little as possible early to gather resources (except for UFO where you sometimes WANT to bomb to get the UFOs or their drops) so you can use them later.
4: Some stages (or parts of said stages) can be made a LOT easier if you stop firing (SA Stage 5 and PCB Stage 4 are good examples)
5: 4: When in doubt, move less.
