Super lewd girl, but stuttering is a pretty lame fetish. Tourette's is better because it makes an otherwise normal and cute girl (with low self-esteem and nerdy hobbies because she probably got bullied for her disability, which makes her lower her standards for a partner) randomly say the most offensive shit that come to her mind, every 10 seconds. It's both lewd and cute, because it exposes the very personal way in which her mind works and reveals which words her subconscious considers more obscene and inappropriate. A girl who is aware of the pathetic nature of the human condition would spout "ass" related words most of the time. Even if she's a cute loli with a fun personality and a beautiful face!

Yasu armed a giant bomb beneath Rokkenjima because she was depressed and frustrated about her love life and viewed George, Jessica, and Battler as acceptable causalities(and if we take our confessions as canon, she had this fucking weirdo Pharaoh like approach to it where their souls would accompany hers to the next life)

Yasu had low self-esteem, lived a life of isolation and spent years thinking herself into a mental disorder. She wasn't sure about her gender, which gender she liked or what kind of person she really wanted to spend her life with. And she couldn't abandon her childhood crush on Battler, who she kept idealizing over the years because she didn't get to interact with him for so long, and her fantasies about witches (missing out on the fun parts of childhood can make you indulge in pretty childish stuff as an adult, never growing out of those desires).

She was terrified of George finding out that she's actually a freaky dickless eunuch with a disgusting wound scar with a makeshift peehole for a "vagina". She didn't have the balls (heh) to tell him the truth or let their relationship progress to the next level. Her low self-esteem and depression made her believe George would either politely reject her, get angry because he had been tricked into dating a fucking tranny or stay with her out of obligation without ever getting to realize his ambitious dreams or fuck a real girl's pussy.

She also hated Natsuhi for ruining her body, but also felt bad for her shitty situation. She hated Rosa for being a terrible mother that constantly traumatizes and beats her autistic daughter (who is Yasu's only real friend), but she also pitied her. She had complicated feelings about Genji, Nanjo and Kumasawa because they allowed Kinzo to get away with a lot of shit and also forced her to survive in a broken undeveloped body with no genitals and raised her as the opposite gender.

She was also raised in a clearly Christian orphanage and seems to believe in some sort of afterlife. She felt trapped in a "closed room" of her own making, didn't know who she was or what she wanted out of life, hated and pitied the people around her at the same time, didn't have the balls to make a decision regarding her love life... She felt trapped and suicidal.

And in the middle of all that, she obtained Genji's unconditional support, a bomb capable of blowing away all her worries and ten tons of gold to bribe people into doing what she wants.

She basically planned to commit suicide using the bomb and take everyone down with her, both out of hatred and out of pity. But she felt guilty about it, so she set up a time limit and asked the relatives to solve the epitapth, to give them a chance and hopefully stop her before the depression made her go through with her insane plan.

Once she learned that Battler would come back, she decided to carry out the epitath ceremony as a mystery for Battler to solve, and planned several scenarios, giving the family another chance to figure out the truth and put an end to her plan. She also bribes some servants and different sets of adults in each game, telling them it's all a fake "game" with fake deaths and offering them a shitload of gold for participating (except Rosa in EP2, who knows the deaths are real and goes along with it anyway).

The impossible murders she carries out instead of simply letting the bomb go off at 24:00 are also a way to entertain Maria and show her "proof" that magic exists, to make her truly believe in Beatrice (Maria only forces herself to believe and deep down knows Beato is just Shannon/Kanon playacting, but the murders "confirm" that it was all real and delight her). It's a way to show Maria the impossible, magical miracles she always wanted to see before everything is over and she is released from her shitty life.

Also, actually killing people in the first twilight is a perfect way to "cross the line" and make sure that her life is fucking over for sure, giving her the courage needed to kill herself.

There are many people IRL who commit murder simply so they can ruin their own lives and eliminate any chance of getting cold feet before commiting suicide. Once you do that, it's either death or a lifetime of suffering in jail. It makes it easier to take that single step into the abyss because the alternative is worse and it's impossible to go back to living a "normal" life anymore.

Is it just me or does every Higanbana chapter have its own "answer arc"?

-Chapter 1 and chapter 11 are both about attractive teachers who seduce a kid and then take advantage of them to satisfy their darkest desires, and they end up killing them because they fear being found out. In both cases, the teacher is punished thanks to a youkai who took interest in the victim beforehand.

-Chapter 2 leaves you with an uneasy feeling about a certain character's fate and chapter 6 reveals what became of them.

-Chapter 3 and chapter 9 are counterparts and their main protagonists (and the youkai) are polar opposites of each other. The endings are also different due to the different natures of their struggles. One is about using escapism to deal with a harsh reality and the other is about focusing on reality to keep your mind empty and avoid thinking about depressing shit.

-Chapter 4 deals with a chuuni loli who struggles to make friends, while chapter 12 is about the same loli losing her only friend and learning to cope with it.

-Chapter 5 is about an asshole kid who gets bullied for being a fucking smartass prick and takes his frustration out by torturing small animals. A youkai approaches him and helps him mutilate his bullies in revenge. In the end, Higanbana punishes him for it and he meets with a terrible fate. The chapter as a whole is disconnected from Marie's story (she barely does anything) and only serves to demonstrate Higanbana's particular sense of "poetic justice". She's the star of this chapter.

Chapter 14 feels like a counterpart to that. It's about a kid with artistic talent who gets bullied for being too nice, but he vents his frustration by drawing beautiful things. Higanbana becomes friends with him and is intrigued by his attitude. The bullies fuck the kid up and leave him blind for the rest of his life. In the end, Higanbana punishes the bullies and eats them. The kid grows up and has a relatively happy life despite his disability. Once again, the chapter has fuck all to do with Marie and is all about how Higanbana became the person she is now.

-Chapter 7 and chapter 13 are about Yukari dealing with different manifestations of bullying, from both sides, and ultimately reaching some sort of temporary "solution" to the problem. They complement each other really well and are probably my favorite set of chapters in the VN.

-Chapter 8 and chapter 10 are both chill chapters where nothing significant happens, a whole bunch of past and future characters appear as cameos, there is quite a bit of comic relief and Marie's character is explored in a subtle way as she interacts with the illusion of the old school building and the characters in the mirror world.

I find it interesting how Ryuukishi only introduced half of the ranked youkais in the first night. When I started reading, I assumed that each of the chapters would introduce a new youkai to Marie and by the seventh one we would've met all of them. But instead of being formulaic like that, Ryuukishi found excuses to avoid introducing half of them.

In the first chapter we meet Higanbana. In the second we meet the Headmaster. But after that, he comes up with a dude who isn't officially ranked but is the second "in the shadows", fucking Sakunoshin, and a newly born dude who is trying to usurp Marie's seat and ends up getting killed. The sixth chapter doesn't introduce anyone and by the seventh we finally get our fourth youkai.

It's funny how there's that huge stretch between the 2nd and the 7th without any officially ranked youkai being introduced.

Higanbana is objectively the "weakest" work of R07, due to its nature as a series of short stories. It doesn't even attempt to reach the level of a massive WTC story with a huge cast of characters and a setting that becomes more and more familiar each episode. It's not a proper linear story full of incredible moments and lovable characters like RGD.

And yet, despite my absolute love for all of his other works, Higanbana is the one I can't stop thinking about. I love its music, its atmosphere, its characters, the individual stories, the child characters, the youkai society and their powers, how it perfectly captures the subtle feelings of insecurity and fear that come with being a kid... Damn, I don't know why but I fucking love Higanbana. It's incredibly comfy and immersive despite being depressing as shit. If his other stories are crazy emotional rollercoasters, this is like a deep plunge into a dark abyss. I just want to know more about this world.

It's funny how the Umineko anime is so garbage that most people that watched it and then read the VN didn't remember absolutely fucking nothing about it. Including the web of red, the EP3 twist and the truth about Kinzo.

How can it be so fucking bad that even the plot twists have no impact on the viewers? Is it because an Umineko anime watcher doesn't have a solid understanding of the mystery they are supposed to solve and therefore the "reveals" that were intended to turn your theories upside down don't feel significant because the entire goddamn story so far has been a clusterfuck and you've been completely lost the whole time?

I dunno. Start by finding one friend you'd enjoy chatting with. After a while, they might introduce you to another friend or a server of likeminded people. Bit by bit you meet new people, some good some bad. It's no different from any other social networking service. It's just a matter of how you use it. I usually hate those sort of things, but even I've managed to find about a dozen people who I enjoy talking with it over the last year and a half. The average person sees entertainment as a way to kill time. They can't appreciate art and don't even understand why preservation of media is important.

This is why I can't watch movies with anyone. If you watch a serious movie, they'll keep making jokes because they are uncomfortable with emotions, will keep looking at their phones every 30 seconds, talk through important scenes and miss out on important details because they got up to grab something. It's maddening. And then they say the movie was shit or "not that good". Even the dumbest fucking comedy is still disrespected by those retards because they miss half the jokes.

And don't even get me started on sharing my favorite music, books or movies with people. They'll find a way to ridicule them without giving them a chance and make me look stupid in their eyes, making me remember that infuriating exchange every time I watch it by myself.

Same with her lovers. George was so into Shannon that he'd fucking kill himself if something happened to his waifu, or at least that's what she thought. So she figured it would be better if he got blown into pieces too instead of having to live with the sadness of losing his waifu.

>Is that really the type of magic Maria believed in? The awful, evil kind?
She didn't really believe in magic by that point, she just deluded herself into accepting magic as an undeniable fact. She's emotionally underdeveloped but also really intelligent for her age.

Any type of unexplainable situation, no matter how "evil", would prove to her that magic might be real after all. She's willing to indulge in her fantasies and take that as proof that Beatrice was a real person who will give her happiness if she helps.

Excellent, except for that point. In EP 1 both Eva and Hideyoshi knew and were bribed, which is incredibly obvious on a rereading. Eva basically spells in one scene that she knows that the culprit is in the room and George should exit the room right now to seek safety, and both of Eva and Hideyoshi have a nice touching moment where they talk about what they could do with all that money now that all their troubles have disappeared. As for the why they were bribed, Hideyoshi was the one who sold the idea of Shannon's corpse to George.

>She also bribes some servants and different sets of adults in each game, telling them it's all a fake "game" with fake deaths and offering them a shitload of gold for participating (except Rosa in EP2, who knows the deaths are real and goes along with it anyway).

And how does that disprove what I said? It's exactly the same point I was making. They were bribed but thought the others had also been made to participate and wear a grotesque "makeup". They had no idea they were really dead.

That's why Eva is so giggly and happy when discussing the case with Battler. She "knows" no one really died.

I wonder what Irie would think about Yasu. He fucking loves maids and believes that all crime is a result of mental illness or physical brain defects. He also thinks cutting off someone's frontal lobe is a moral medical treatment for depression and evil thoughts.

Maybe he'd secretly arrange for a lobotomy like in the good old days and change Yasu into a ""happy"" person who doesn't care about her problems. Then he'd hire Yasu as his personal maid and enjoy her smooth, undeveloped, soft, childlike skin.

They are both pretty shit, but PS3 Akasaka had absolutely no emotion in his face and always looked pissed off, staring right at the center of the screen for no reason. Scenes where the original sprite was supposed to be expressing all sorts of emotions had the PS3 sprite just stand there like a statue with an ugly pissed off face. Even during cheerful conversations with Ooishi!

What the fuck where they thinking, seriously. It wasn't a patch or anything, it was the actual PS3 version emulated on PC.

Same desu. I'd even say that her arc with talking to Marias horocrux, learning how Maria herself became a witch, discovering magic and then rejecting it again, is the part of Umineko that has stuck with me the most.
It shows off the tragic futility of a human trying to make sense of and live in a hostile world, the sort of structural blindness that necessarily drives them further and further into either isolation or a state of progressively greater vulnerability better than anything else Ryukishi has written on that theme. Also, it lays the groundwork for the reader being able to appreciate Ange coming to understand how deeply she hurt Maria by denying Sakutarou and going on a journey to reconcile herself with her past.
The issue with Anges arc isn't the story itself, it's that, at least the first time around, it seems to be utterly disconnected from the causality of the main story, so you're left wondering why you're being taken on a detour instead of focusing on the resolution of Battler and Beatrice's conflict.

Alchemist did a bunch of weird changes between ps2 and ps4 sprites, expressions that initially were like the original ones were changed into something different, a noticeable one being Mion's infamous :3, which was removed entirely and replaced by this expression.
