That's actually a pretty awesome idea for a manga. Protagonist masters a summoning technique to summon the strongest being in the multiverse. Summons himself. Now he has to find a way to unlock the power hidden within. Will the power corrupt him? After a couple hundred chapters with several other demons we find out that he does indeed become a mother fucking demon. His friends in a desperate attempt to fight off the now blood thirsty main character summons the main character from an alternate time line. Win or win?

The events of CC are basically the "cleanup crew" of what happened in CT, as time travel causes paradoxes and reality errors abound.

A chunk of Lavos (The Frozen Flame) is found and recovered by Balthasar (Guru of Reason) and Lucca, and stored by a supercomputer based off of Mother Brain (F.A.T.E.). Parts of Robo are put into it to seal the Lavos-part (Prometheus Lock).

When this is created, the Planet (which has a will) gets PISSED (F.A.T.E. is essentially a god), and drags F.A.T.E. to an alternate reality (where the Reptites never died) where a big war broke out.
F.A.T.E. won.
It set itself down 10000 years in the past and artificially created the El-Nido Archipelago, where CC takes place.
~9988 years later, the hero of the story, Serge, gets poisoned by a panther-demon, and is taken by his father to get help. He gets caught in a storm and winds up on the island where F.A.T.E. is located and is taken to the Frozen Flame, which heals Serge and marks him as a Chrono Trigger forevermore.
About 3 years later CC is divided into two universes; one where Serge lives and Serge dies.
Later (time of the game starting), Serge falls between his living universe to the dimension where he was dead.
Shit happens, he ultimately finds his way to F.A.T.E. and kills it (it needed Serge dead to access the Frozen Flame again). This is bad, and related to CT, because...
When Lavos was killed, an entire future was destroyed. Destroyed futures go to the Darkness Beyond Time, and this is also where Schala wound up after her situation in the Ocean Palace. Lavos' "existence" consumed Schala, and created the Time Devourer, who wants to eat all existence everywhere. F.A.T.E. was built to monitor it or something. Either way, it was now free to try to eat the universe.
Serge stops it with two Chrono Triggers fused into a Chrono Cross.
