If I remember correctly, Aston mentioned in "Way of the Gods" that it was during the decline of Shinto before Meiji reatoration that many mikos became shrine-less and travelled selling their bodies.
Generally, outside of select few high level rituals related to the royal family itself, Shinto doesn't bother itself with virginity of the mikos.
