21797449 No.21797449 [Reply] [Original] [archived.moe]

What releases from C96 are everyone looking forward to?

Personally, I can't wait to hear Rolling Contact's two Touhou releases, along with SPACELECTRO's instrumental album, and the new Frozen Starfall one.

Anyway, Touhou music discussion thread I suppose.

It's nice to see a touhou music thread after a couple of weeks since my last one that died around 100+ posts.
Here's what I'm looking forwards to so far:
NEETs upcoming HSiFS album with this nice vid of Crazy Backup Dancers
Marasy's new Gensou Yugi and him playing a medley of the albums songs
DDBY's Cafe de Eiyashou

And some stuff from R16 I couldn't find much on:
DDBY's Cafe de Seirensen
Foxfactory's SA album
tanigon's Night Butterfly
Studio Nenem's FLora

>> No.21798394

Marasy has gotten better over the years, huh.

Can't remember why, but I recall not really liking some of his earlier stuff.

>> No.21808281

Thank you anon. A question: do the TLMC torrent and gdrive host different files? Is there some kind of criteria? Because none of that is on the torrent.

>> No.21808308

The TLMC torrent is the original TLMC compiled by rwx. It's updated every few years, and has all audio files in the TTA codec.

There's also a TLMC OneDrive compiled by a Chinese guy which contains all the content from the TLMC torrent, plus newer stuff. He updates it more frequently, with new uploads every week, so you'll find newer stuff there, but I've always been uncomfortable with relying on a Microsoft Sharepoint product for filehosting, since the plug can be pulled at any time for any reason. The TLMC OneDrive uses FLAC instead of TTA.

The torrent can't be updated as frequently, because with each TLMC torrent release you'd need a brand new torrent, new seed swarm, etc., whereas you can simply just upload new files to Microsoft Sharepoint whenever you like.

I'm all for decentralizing TLMC and having it exist in multiple places as a failsafe, I just don't feel like OneDrive is a safe option. I might just be unnecessarily paranoid though.

Hello /jp/. I've made a bunch of Youtube videos focused on Touhou music, just seeking some overall feedback, and potential suggestions for improvement.

This is all still just experimental, not sure if I should make more in the long term, but I'm trying out something that (as far as I know) none of the other Touhou music channels have attempted before: I categorise the songs based on which character/stage theme they're based off, and then provide comparisons for each musical genre that exists for that character/stage theme in the form of 30-ish second snippets.

Yuyuko's PCB theme:
Marisa's IN theme:
Satori's theme:

Any feedback is warmly welcome. Right now, what I'd like to know the most is:
1. Is a 30-ish minute video "too long" for the average Youtube audience? If so, should I trim the clips down to 20 seconds instead, or would that adversely affect my ability to "demonstrate" the genre properly?
2. How is the overall presentation style? Anything too awkward, ugly, or confusing?
3. Does /jp/ think that, ultimately, people are interested in hearing the same song played in different genres? Or does no-one realistically care about that stuff?

Butaotome's new albums sound good just like they were in C95. Can't wait.

I'm upset because a lot of the songs I had in my playlist went private and I don't know what they were. All I remember was the one where Kogasa was getting monster lessons from Mamizou. All of the others are gone forever because I never made a list outside of youtube. All I know was that they were songs I really liked, because I don't pad playlists with stuff I only kinda feel into...

>> No.21824847

If a video gets deleted or goes private, Youtube really ought to, at the very minimum, give some information like what the title was, rather than just a generic "this video is no longer available because of X" message. That way, people can at least look for alternatives or something.

I wonder if a third-party website does something like this, retaining video titles if they go down.

I really like this idea, and if you tried to aim for the general YouTube audience you'd just lose the people who really care about the idea. >3. Does /jp/ think that, ultimately, people are interested in hearing the same song played in different genres? Or does no-one realistically care about that stuff?

Does TLMC updates every Comiket and Reitaisai release?

>> No.21830108

No, it updates every 1 or 2 years.

>> No.21831580

Just watched the video on Border of Life and I will agree with the others that it's too long. I think cutting the individual clips to somewhere in the 10-20s range would be a good idea. As for the presentation, I liked it. Some nice pictures of Yuyuko in there.

What is your purpose in making these videos? Are they just meant as an exhibit of how diverse touhou music can be or are they meant as a springboard to discover new circles/genres? In the latter case, it would be nice to include 1-2 more examples of the different genres (if you can find them) in the video description or something. Also, any chance to add symphonic metal as a genre?

>> No.21831805

Alright, thanks. I should probably not target general audiences, in that case. Touhou music is a niche interest to begin with, so I suppose it makes sense to cater to those who already have a passion for it.

You have a valid point there.

I see, I'll look into it. Cheers.

>What is your purpose in making these videos?
A bit of both: To showcase the variance of musical types creators have made for a particular stage/character theme (and the amount of effort musicians put in to create such a diverse range of music), but to also facilitate discovery and bring to attention that a certain genre might exist for a theme the viewer is interested in, but aren't aware of any songs that exist within that category. The former would probably be more for newcomers to the idea of Touhou music, while the latter more geared towards viewers that are more familiar.

>Also, any chance to add symphonic metal as a genre?
If I can come across any examples, I'll definitely add them in. I'm adding in content that I've stumbled across and am aware of, and I'm sure there's plenty out there that I haven't even listened to yet.

Not easy to bypass the loudness normalization while listening online because there isn't a single browser addon with such an option. The only thing I found was a hacky userscript.

I really like finding new arrangements of my favourites, so having 30+ minutes of different genres is great, and it helps me to pin down what some are. Length isn't much of a problem because you can pause it whenever and start again later, but I'd love to see more videos like this.

Sure, though keep in mind that it takes me quite a while to compile these, so you might not see it anytime soon unfortunately. I do these when I can find free time, and the three I've uploaded thus far were worked on concurrently, hence the short upload timespan. But yes, the goal is to slowly and eventually cover most themes, including The Enlarged Castle Keep. This is, optimistically, going to cover a timespan of at least a year, so I hope the lengthy wait won't be a disappointment.

In case you're curious, it takes me a handful of days (calendar days, and not a literal 24 hour period) to do song discovery (going through touhouwiki and TLMC, listening to hundreds of songs, identifying potential songs for shortlisting in a spreadsheet, and then narrowing down the shortlist), less than an hour to record gameplay footage, less than half a day to put the audio track together, about a day going though Pixiv, Danbooru and my /jp/ folder looking for suitable eyecatching backgrounds, and then a day putting the imagery together, adding transition effects, text, rendering, quality control, etc. Here, each "day" is anywhere between 4 to 6 hours, whenever I can muster together some spare time in the evening. And yes, I'm probably doing a ton of inefficient things, this is my first attempt at creating some sort of content. (Wrestling with open-source video editing software that crashes every few minutes is always neat.)

For the immediately forseeable future, I'm currently working on Remilia's theme, and following that I plan to start on Meiling's and Suika's.

Thanks. If you mean the video description, there's a character limit. If you mean the video itself, then I'll see what I can do.

The tracklist was intended to allow people to copy and paste songs to search for them if they found one interesting, since I assume not a lot of people use Japanese IMEs, nor able to read the song titles from the video itself.

Ahhhh, that H.J.Freaks album had a really good Love Coloured Master Spark arrange that I missed out on adding ;_;

I wonder, how significant is the quality difference between the codecs that Youtube uses? Is it worthwhile for me to upload in upscaled 4K resolution, just to force Youtube to use the VP9 encoder? Or does it not matter?

The annoying thing is the China firewall divide. Since they passed new national security laws in 2017, every single Chinese filesharing website (including Baidu Pan) now requires mandatory account signup using your irl citizen identification number before you can download anything, and you can't sign up as a foreigner.

Because of this, we have a situation where we can't give them anything, they can't get anything from us, they can't give us anything, and we can't get anything from them. The rare exception is the occasional Chinese guy with the VPN who can reupload their stuff to Mega or something.

There's probably countless albums stuck on Chinese filesharing websites like Baidu Pan that we can't get to, even if we wanted to.

There's also the annoying Chinese forum culture where albums are locked behind "you must make at least 80 forum posts in order to view this URL" walls, which forces you to sign up to a forum, and then pad your post count, before you can download anything.

Here is a specific request maybe someone can fill:
Has anyone done a cover of Lunate Elf utilizing a horn arrangement?
Eg of that sound: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDjeXUxbvGI
Hearing that mid tempo melody makes me think it would sound really fucking good

delightful, ty

I'm too inept but if you mean with these sorts of instruments https://a.uguu.se/ELWE8dmAncjS.mp3
Torrent FL Studio, get the Kontakt 5.8.1 plugin and find whatever brass instruments from Big Fish Audio you want from that Russian torrent site to whip up something actually good.

>United Masters, an artist services platform founded by music industry veteran Steve Stoute with funding from Google’s parent company Alphabet, signed a deal for both “Omae Wa Mou” and “Already Dead.” Deadman and Lil Boom each got a $5,000 advance, and United Masters promises to keep promoting the track on streaming platforms.

>“We ain’t rich now or nothing,” Lil Boom says. “But we’re makin’ a little bit.” Deadman purchased a new laptop.

What the fuck, someone should contact ZUN.

Someone just commercialized Touhou music without receiving his permission and sold it to a fucking company.

>> No.21993568

I'd contact ShibayanRecords first since they literally stole one of their songs and just copypasted a garbage beat on top of it.

Looks like he's okay with it.

Do you have any download links that won't give me a sea of viruses?
I actually wouldn't mind taking the time to make it

>> No.21994971

Rutracker's got everything
FL Studio: https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5680918
Kontakt: https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5549189
After installing Kontakt apply this 5.8.1 update: https://rutracker.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5578085
Load the Kontakt plugin into FL Studio and then start downloading whatever instruments (called libraries) are compatible with Kontakt, again just look up Big Fish Audio and whatever other brass libraries you'd like but be warned as they can range from a few hundred MB to tens of GB depending on how many instruments each library provides.

This post made me feel a mix of pithy and anger. You're much more likely to get virus on literally any public tracker and file hosting.

>> No.21995994

when's toho eurobeat vol. 21 getting uploaded?

>> No.21996118

Shibayan Records produces Touhou derivative songs and assumedly follows ZUN's published guidelines for Touhou works...

Anything commercial requires ZUN's permission.

Deadman and Lil Boom have no right to license to a publisher their remixed song they did not even bother to ask permission for until hit with a copyright notice in 2019, two years after this shitty so called remix was uploaded in the year, 2017.

I would not be surprised if ZUN, himself, gets involved once he hears about it because ZUN says he will be aggressive from now on after learning a hard lesson from some nobody scumbag trademarked Touhou

>> No.21996166

If this were almost any other arrange I could definitely see ZUN getting involved, but given how loosely this is based off the original (Yuuka's PoFV theme) I think he or rather the person that he put in charge of handling these things is likely to turn a blind eye.

>> No.21996216

ZUN is unaware but selling the license to a company already counts as commercialization and is already out of the doujin industry and into commercial industry.

Does anyone remember this one site that has a lot of old touhou albums from different events? I could only remember that site having scans on most of their albums their and that their icon on the browser tab is a goomba. I've forgotten the site's name but that's where I used to go when I want to look up older albums done by various circles.
