Hey anons, i am the fag that was learning hiragana by just repeating it like a grade schooler
I have taken a different approach, a mix of anki cards, transcribing audio from japanese to hiragana and katakana.
I learned katakana quite fast too.
Right now i am doing around 2-3 hs a day of the exercises mentioned above
One week ago i could just write down 5 or 6 hiragana but now i can write around 70% of hiragana and katakana
I am quite impressed

Reminder that core 2k/6k fucking sucks and if you can find a shorter deck that doesn't have as many obvious as problems as it then there's absolutely no reason to use core 2k/6k at all, it's obsolete.

一生懸命 doesn't make a whole lot of sense when given an English calque, but good knowledge of the individual characters and their associated morphemes makes the meaning easy to grasp.

5 to 10% isn't "all the time". and those kinds of mistakes are usually what happens when people add things in anki they saw for the first time. the exact opposite of what i'm saying to do.
when you're already familiar with seeing the thing repeatedly in context and THEN you add it, the drive to get it nailed down correctly, and thus pay more attention during your (now very short) reviews, is stronger. you're way less likely to get it wrong.
i've been 99%ing consistently because i'm only adding things i really want to get down -- not every new word i see.
just reading is not the most efficient way to fix the kind of errors/biases i'm talking about. it's very possible to read and still get the same thing wrong repeatedly because of something your brain isn't going to willingly correct just by seeing the word again 3 weeks later in a different reading. anki is perfect for nipping that in the bud quickly rather than just getting frustrated repeatedly.

Is there a good way to memorize kanji efficiently? I don't have a problem reading them when studying (because I already know what the context gonna be and the vocab of each particular exercise), but whenever I try reading stuff myself, I get lost in everything more complicated than grade 1. Too many radicals and whatnot.
Is there a trick for this, or should I just bite the bullet and continue grinding them till I get gud?

I singularly had a brain error and read something that wasn't there and that was 一番はやすい which is obviously wrong and what I was referring to when I said this shit is funky and I didn't think about it deeper because I thought it's in a textbook and not written by a native speaker so it being wrong seemed more likely, yeah sure I should have done a better reanalyzation effort but w/e from my perspective this is an attempt by lesser learners to just do some pathetic fault finding so they have something to hold up against someone and justify them being bad

I actually did it the other way around for a bit of time. Here's the procedure I followed:
Read a VN/manga/anything else -> spot an unknown word -> look up the meaning of its constitutent kanji -> look up its radicals -> Make anki cards for every single one of those things.

I deconstruct words in this manner a lot after I noticed how well it works and also because Chinese words are pretty well made. What's a good resource for finding light novels that aren't in the library?

nyaa.si has a decent selection but they're so poorly documented, and under the same category as manga (both are under 'literature - raw'). It's happened a few times that I've downloaded something only for it to be the manga rather than the books, especially if they include the novel's author name in both. And even if you do find the actual novel, sometimes it's just a collection of page scans rather than .epub or .mobi files.
