Hey anons, i am the fag that was learning hiragana by just repeating it like a grade schooler
I have taken a different approach, a mix of anki cards, transcribing audio from japanese to hiragana and katakana.
I learned katakana quite fast too.
Right now i am doing around 2-3 hs a day of the exercises mentioned above
One week ago i could just write down 5 or 6 hiragana but now i can write around 70% of hiragana and katakana
I am quite impressed

加=カ、奴=ヌ. If your mind really does work that way, maybe you should try learning the root kanji first, then associating the related katakana.

The phenomenon functions far more effectively when the semantic content of the characters are acquired in isolation. Later, as they appear in more and more related compounds, the mind begins to perceive a single thread winding through them all.

It also helps to learn multiple, related compounds when a given kanji possesses two distinct senses, eg:

甲: 辞書、辞意、辞典 = 辞(ことば)
乙: 辞去、辞職、辞世 = 辞(やめる・ことわる)

-_- identifying the radicals in each kanji and trying them to a story so you can write them is the whole point of RTK is it not
but you don’t have to do RTK to isolate a kanji, identify its radicals and have a clearer picture of the individual kanji. that’s my point.

>> No.21710910

>>21710862
The vast majority of the time, they do. Of course, the passage of millenia sometimes obscures the original meanings, while other times a kanji acquires some uniquely Japanese meaning never used in Chinese, still other timesa kanji shifts meaning due to phonological similarities between Chinese words, eg: 云 was originally a pictograph of a cloud, but, due to its phonetic resemblance to the word "to say" (ウン), it came to mean 云う, finally prompting the creation of 雲 to disambiguate and restore the kanji's original meaning.

That said, some of the traditional 康熙 radicals were contrived for the purpose of shoehorning certain kanji into its classification system, while simplified elements like first three strokes of 学 don't fit at all.

Finally, there seems to be a lot of confusion between genuine radicals (意符) and phonetic markers (音符), eg: 時 = 意符の「日」+ 音符の「寺」

You want to explain that statement? Intransitive = not transitive. The root of the very word itself conveys the meaning of an action moving -- *trans*iting -- from the agent to the object.

Whether you do or do not include the word "external", instransitive verbs do not ever have a related agent because the action or effect originates from the very same source as the object it affects. This isn't even a reflexive usage of a transitive verb such as: "He killed himself."

Grammar
Transitivity (grammar), a property of verbs that relates to whether a verb can take direct objects

In linguistics, transitivity is a property of verbs that relates to whether a verb can take direct objects and how many such objects a verb can take. It is closely related to valency, which considers other verb arguments in addition to direct objects. The obligatory noun phrases and prepositional phrases determine how many arguments a predicate has. Obligatory elements are considered arguments while optional ones are never counted in the list of arguments.

Traditional grammar makes a binary distinction between intransitive verbs that cannot take a direct object (such as fall or sit in English) and transitive verbs that take one direct object (such as throw, injure, kiss in English). [...]

>> No.21712532

In grammar, an intransitive verb does not allow a direct object. This is distinct from a transitive verb, which takes one or more objects. The verb property is called transitivity. Intransitive verbs can often be identified as those which can't be followed by a "who" or a "what".

Either you're attempting to salvage your argument by shifting the discussion topic from "agent" to "agentive", or every single verb in existence has an "agent" if you try to define "agent" as the originator of the action or effect. In the latter case, the word becomes essentially meaningless, as the distinction is lost between the "agent" which originates a transitive effect which acts upon an object, and and that which originates an intransitive effect which does not.

The object cannot exist without an agent and the agent does not exist without an object upon which to act; they always exist together.

So bloody what? It's an imperative sentence; of course it's second person.

>and uh holy shit are you really trying to worm your way out of a grammar argument by claiming that "having an agent" and "being agentive" mean different things

Yeah, because they do in fact mean different things, just as that construction formed with a nominaliser such as の; eg: 歩くの functions as a noun even though it isn't one. That is why the noun "nominal" exists: they are not the same thing.

One of us truly is trying to worm his way out of things, and it isn't me. It's the guy who tried to change the topic from the nominal "agent" to "agentive verbs".

In linguistics, a grammatical agent is the thematic relation of the cause or initiator to an event.[1] The agent is a semantic concept distinct from the subject of a sentence as well as from the topic. Whereas the subject is determined syntactically, primarily through word order, the agent is determined through its relationship to the action expressed by the verb. For example, in the sentence "The little girl was bitten by the dog", "girl" is the subject, but "dog" is the agent.

For example, in the sentence "Jack kicked the ball", Jack is the agent and "the ball" is the patient. In certain languages, the agent is declined or otherwise marked to indicate its grammatical role. In Japanese, for instance, the agentive case is marked with the case particle ga (が), while the nominative case, also called "bare case" or hadaka-kaku (ハダカ格), is marked with no case particle.

Incidentally, "subject" isn't a grammatical case, it's just whatever part of the sentence is the complement to the predicate. It has nothing to do with agentiveness or nominativeness or whatever. It just so happens that Japanese has slightly unusual morphosyntactic alignment, so sometimes the subject is not technically nominative, despite being marked with が.

lets stop with this silly competition. they ideally should fill different roles. anki is not for acquiring the language, it's for filling gaps (mistakes you keep repeating, readings you just can't seem to remember correctly, meanings you keep mistaking bc the kanji are misleading or w/e) -- gaps that are a lot easier to just get down in anki with 3 to 5 minutes a day avg, then be done with. pitting input vs anki against eachother as if theyre even meant to do the same thing is silly. define the ideal roles for each rather than making it a one or the other thing for no good reason.

>people make mistakes in anki all the time.
5 to 10% isn't "all the time". and those kinds of mistakes are usually what happens when people add things in anki they saw for the first time. the exact opposite of what i'm saying to do.
when you're already familiar with seeing the thing repeatedly in context and THEN you add it, the drive to get it nailed down correctly, and thus pay more attention during your (now very short) reviews, is stronger. you're way less likely to get it wrong.
i've been 99%ing consistently because i'm only adding things i really want to get down -- not every new word i see.
just reading is not the most efficient way to fix the kind of errors/biases i'm talking about. it's very possible to read and still get the same thing wrong repeatedly because of something your brain isn't going to willingly correct just by seeing the word again 3 weeks later in a different reading. anki is perfect for nipping that in the bud quickly rather than just getting frustrated repeatedly.

not really, making singular mistakes like this is whatever and can even happen in your native language when you're misreading stuff at a glance.

it's overall consistency what matters most, not getting that one thing wrong one time even if it's funny.

I never actually took it seriously. Never have I interpreted the 広義 thing as a legitimate foundation for saying matt sucks at Japanese. When I participated it was in a humorous manner, having fun with the boys. In fact only thing I always said was that matt is good but he isn't as good as his cultists believe and that blind following of his is kind of 不愉快. And that the advice he gives is dumb but that's because it is and it has nothing to do with what he knows.
Here the はやい thing is used as an argument against using Anki or something when every single anti Anki proponent with the exception of makopi actually sucks balls.

Oh fuck, I'm gonna die.
That's what I thought at that moment, when I saw the giant magic-like creature's deep red-coloured mouth that I could confirm was suddenly opening up before me.

There was a small market (?) in the capital city of a kingdom on the edge of a continent.
In the vicinity, there was a lowly maze called the "Maze of Moon-Month", where shabby magic creatures were hunted in exchange for a daily fee, with me, Rento Fania, being one of those inferior bronze-rank adventurers, going as usual that day through the lower levels of the maze, determined to go hunt for a few bonemen or goblins, or alternatively gathering materials or magic stones.
These being my everyday doings, I went around doing as stated above till around sunset, which is when I was on my way back to the city, handing the materials over to the Adventurers' Team (?), getting my wage in exchange for that, as I'd grown used to doing.

Even so, thus had happened.
That thing appeared before me on sudden impact.

I'm barely at beginner's level, and I can't say I understood most of the text well enough to be able to make anything but a near-literal translation of it.

I'm pretty bad at memorizing readings. For a while I had trouble with 礎(いしずえ) because I wasn't parsing いしずえ as anything meaningful. The third time I couldn't remember what it was supposed to spell out I could verily scant be arsed to check the dictionary just so that I might take another pointless gander at the bloody mumbo jumbo spell that serves as its proper reading again, so I settled on pronouncing it as そ because on'yomi ftw they're quick and easy. But later when watching TV it suddenly occurred to me いしずえ was in fact meaningful, it's 石据え, and ever since I've had no problem applying that word to 礎. I think the people who memorize meaningless sequences of sounds are pretty cool, in an abstract way.

I deconstruct words in this manner a lot after I noticed how well it works and also because Chinese words are pretty well made. nyaa.si has a decent selection but they're so poorly documented, and under the same category as manga (both are under 'literature - raw'). It's happened a few times that I've downloaded something only for it to be the manga rather than the books, especially if they include the novel's author name in both. The "word feeling" of "terrorism" makes me feel the act is one of terrorism because it's meant to instill terror into those involved in production. But who cares about word feeling where official term definitions rule. Since everyone involved is really an otaku, some people would argue that otakus are below human to begin with, and accordingly should be outside of the realm of many more universal concepts, such as having human rights.
