...see, I pirate. I pirate games, I pirate VNs, etc. If I truly enjoy a game, I will subsequently purchase it to support the publisher and encourage the production of similar games. (I regularly wank to how awesome I found The Witcher and how awesome the developers are.) To be frank, I'd rather pirate and be able to donate $50 directly to the company, if such was actually possible. Regarding Visual Novels, I would gladly (and do, when there is the option and I enjoyed the translation) donate to translators of the VNs and if I could reliably ensure that the money I spend is going to the original company who produced a great game like Tsukihime, I would go and purchase it (a complete game, I vehemently detest installments/paid DLC). I will most likely purchase the most extras-filled Limited Edition of the new Tsukihime game I can find when it comes out, hoping I can find a more direct route than usual. In short, I am more than willing to pay to encourage translation and/or the original producers, but loathe the amount of my money that ends up going to the middlemen through more common channels, ESPECIALLY for games that have been out for quite some time, as there's that much less likelihood for a good deal of the proceeds to go to the creators. I'd rather download a game, then pay 150% of MSRP directly to the creators. Unfortunately, this is not reasonable in the least. Thus, I only purchase what I find immensely enjoyable and am reasonably sure my purchase will make an impact (by no means the case with 99% of VNs) and to translators who accept donations.
