The afterword makes it sounds exactly like ZUN had no idea what to even do with the manga anymore. Aya acting like them having to split things up into 2 chapters was a big deal is also pretty ironic considering that this would probably have needed at least 1 more to not be this rushed.

BUT WHY'S SHE HATE SUIKA, THO?

That's my only issue with the series in the end. I wanted that mystery answered more than others.

Also, I find it interesting that Kasen is noted for being evil, while according to everything else we know about oni in Touhou they don't eat or (deliberately) kill humans, they kidnap them and were bummed out because humans started killing them.

Kasen seems more than willing to accept a drink from Suika, so I don't think it's that extreme.
Considering that she personally went to Yuugi to ask for help, I can't imagine it being anything big like "hating the entire oni species or the Four Devas" or some such.
Given what we know now, she probably (maybe rightfully) believe Suika left her to die after her arm got cut off. Course it's just a theory, but eh.

I will never understand ZUN rushing his manga to a close when there is absolutely no deadline for it. Unless he got told behind the scenes that it would be axed after 50 chapters but I can't see any magazine actually cancelling a big name like Touhou. FS could've been that. Honestly, the ending is the only part of it I don't like BECAUSE everything prior was consistent and seemed to be moving toward a conclusion we did not receive.

Writing game plot is something he's more excels at but writing manga plot is different. The print works he writes and even game plot has always been more akin to lore dump than anything, while writing manga requires plot progressions and building atmosphere made through characters actions and events connected to each other in the course of the manga, not just background story or myth references.

Doubtful. Suika is stupidly benevolent. Doesn't even kidnap humans, was interested in establishing human-oni relations through peace, and generally doesn't cause trouble. You could say that's all recent, but it's narration that explains she doesn't kidnap humans (in an IaMP ending), which to me implies she's always been like that.

My guess is nothing, at least for a while. ZUN seems like he's slowing things down a bit which makes sense given he has a family now. I think overall he also may enjoy making one off types of things like AFiEU or GoU more, probably because he can do them when he actually feels inspired enough and doesn't have to come up with new stuff constantly for an ongoing work.

I'm inclined to make my own headcanon ending after reading this chapter, to be honest.

Between Marisa and Sanae's efforts being pointless, Komachi literally vanishing between chapters and Reimu still trusting Kasen and keeping everyone in the dark after they nursed her in coma just to make a buck, it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. One more chapter could have easily saved it.

Tenshi is an easy going celestial who would easily wipe the floor with most if not all Gensokyo residents if she only got semi serious. Being weaker than Tenshi doesn't mean that Reimu isn't very strong or one of the top tier characters.

Although from a story point of view I've been wondering for a while what have all the male gods, youkai, lunarians, hermits, monks, exterminators and magicians been doing all this time. Like what are they up to and what are they dealing with that they always seem to conveniently avoid every major event and incident? Or why do they let all these women do as they please?

I don't actually want more males in touhou but at the same time every time we hear a passing mention of male god or youkai I find it intriguing.

Can't find the source right now but I remember reading that ZUN said the men in Touhou aren't interested in solving incidents with Danmaku as its womens play. Kind of like GuP where tankery is a womans sport if I had to compare it to something else.
I imagine the men would just solve things with their fists if they got involved in incidents.

Compared to the early scans translator of World Trigger, Chippokenabokura, who keeps her opinions obviously separate from facts and never mentions politics, I found Clarste to be rather distasteful.
