it's 2019 and i still love Umineko. And sometime i feel lonely. Yet i'm a bit frustratred by episode 7 and 8.

Sometimes I wonder how Umineko would have been if Ryukishi's best friend had not died.

for years now i waited for a Beato figure but it will never happen i guess.
I developed a strange affection for this character. Yet I do not consider her as one of my waifu, however she remains very important to me.

I'm still surprised it is only available on Nyaa and not on AB or Bakabt.

Hello anons, it's been a real while since I've read Umineko so my memory is a little hazy regarding what really happened or not on the island, the meaning of the first four episodes, how the meta world functions or the distinction to be made between Rokkenjima prime, the meta world and such.

Just to confirm : everything shown by Bernkastel to Lion and Ange was the real truth behind the Rokkenjima incident, while the first four EPs were either fairy tales written by Yasu (Legend and Turn) or a filled-with-shonen-tropes recollection attempt of the events from an amnesiac incompetent crying knight on a white horse willing to understand the first writer (Banquet and Alliance), right ?

My questions : what is the meta world? Was it part of the bottles/books or was it supposed to represent the readers? What really happened? Is Beatrice a woman in the meta world? Did Yasu really give up on the motorcycle, at the end? Bern and Lambda were respectively a cat and a cake? Should I finally read the manga and find the answers/remember things myself since I'm unable to find a downloadable version of the visual novel with original sprites and that I don't want to use the PS3 ones or the steam version because I don't like them and that I'm poor?

Everything that bernkastel shown to lion and ange was what really happened on rokkenjima, aka the truth the ange was searching for, while the four episodes were yasus stories about how she'd commit the murders and battlers truth was to basically show that witch couldn't do any of those murders.
Honestly i don't remember at all what the meta world was, i think it was basically a place where witches could actually use their magic and battler could basically live in for a duration of the game.
And you can use the original sprites on steam, you have a choice beetwen original sprites and pachinko sprites which you can change at all time during the game

Even Erika vs Battler works better, not because it gives us the answers to Episode 5, but because it gives Erika a chance to overcome her past failure, and shows just how dangerous she is by having her overwhelm Battler.

You don't need a fight which explicitly references "questions" in the previous episodes to give her a chance to overcome her past failures (and I don't mean literal failures to solve a puzzle). This is implied at the end of episode 8 in that scene with Battler.

Adding references to past events and thus basically retreading old ground doesn't make something more connected to the actual story of episode 8. And not everything has to be more than just a short battle between two characters who are fun to watch together. This is especially true when the focus is shifted more towards Ange and Beato, as you mentioned.

No, it doesn't. The important part isn't the truth, it's the personal interpretations made from the truth. That's what Ange's final battle against Bernkastel was all about. Even if her family is dead and her parents are murderers, she can continue to believe in the loving family she knew. Giving the readers the whole truth still leaves room for them to draw their own interpretations with regards to meaning.

"Without love it cannot be seen" is literally and provably false in the universe constructed by the manga, as you can clearly "see" just by having basic reading skills and not having the meta-knowledge to close the manga before it actually ends. While in the VN, each person can agree and disagree based on their interpretation of the story. Nothing in the story itself will confirm or deny this with absolute certainty. I don't know how anyone can believe that this isn't a change which contradicts the main message.

Because prior to the manga the fact that Meta world Battler is Tohya's former self that he lost at sea was ambiguous. A lot of people thought he was the piece Battler from Legend of the Golden Witch, ascended to the meta world. Personally, I think it gives Tohya more narrative weight knowing that the Battler we've been following is the same Battler he's been unable to reconcile with, making the final scene where his past the two Battler's meet all the more emotional.

I have a hunch that Ryukishi might be going full F:SN with this one. Given the nearly infinite number of potential combinations of who might fight who under which circumstances and what kind of relationship might develop out of this, etc., that kind of format lends itself even better to long-form Storytelling than Higu and Umi did, so I'm not too worried about it being too short.
I'm more concerned about the political intrique aspect ending up underdeveloped, and arriving at a conclusion that doesn't resolve the problems the setting seems to pose (who is a pawn, who has agency on the global political stage) in any thematically satisfying fashion, but with a meme-tier shounen battle for the fate of the world.

Are you talking about Requiem or Fata? I haven't played Requiem, as Fata was a disappointment for me. It could be that Requiem is an excellent VN for all I know, though I wouldn't bet on it.

Fata Morgana has some excellent ideas, almost always related to metatextual plays with the UI. By instance, the fourth story is a lie, and you can only discover it is a lie by using the textscroll history, which is heavily corrupted and contain the thoughts of both the MC and the witch. It is fascinating. Or a decision is time-dependent (as in, you must take the decision in one second), or it locks you into a bad end.

Those are some very interesting ideas, especially the fourth story.

Unfortunately, narratively speaking, Fata Morgana is subpar. Most reveals are painfully obvious, many characters are weak, it can be absurdly slow-paced, the prose isn't particularly good (but then it's a translation), and the historical setting (France, etc) is simply left unused. Its meta nature, when the VN doesn't use the interface in bizarre way, is very poor.
