Thanks to the people last thread who helped me out with optimizing my gunner, living weapons are busted as all hell; each zero shoot was dealing ~2500 and I would have cleared floor 15 without any casualties if it wasn't for a few unlucky chaos balls out of the unicorn right as it was about to die.

How does it keep healing to full every time its gauge goes off? I've leeched MP from it so far that it gets hit 60k every single basic attack but that fills its gauge pretty quickly giving it another free heal that hurts me like hell.
Says "released the converged energy towards you!" and breathes. So I assume that's a converge breath. But how does that heal it?

This is the third mob that's done this so far. The others I could outpace and kill before they gauge healed. But not this one. Its gauge fills way, way too quickly. I'd have to get it to like -1,000,000 MP at this rate.

The most hits I got in a row before it healed to full, for the duration of my entire 15k stock of Jure heal casts (Like an hour of fucking with it), was about 8. Which is kind of ridiculous.

It's gonna come down to how much you want to invest into her. She has some very good evolutions assuming you're not on vanilla, but it's realistically going to take a while for you to find the right hearts to evolve her.
You will find that she grows into a more supportive role with those evolutions, since they give her synergy with larger parties, and her direct combat power does fall off compared to some other options.

Breath using enemies are supposed to be strong. According to the changelog it increases HP by 1/3:

Converge Breath gauge attack will now increase current HP by 1/3. This increases HP, but is not a healing move. It may increase HP beyond the maximum until HP gets recalculated. HP will not be increased if current HP already exceeds maximum HP.

So, be able to do more damage than that, our use things than lower gauge % on enemies. I think one of the wide area actions lowers gauge%. I think it's disturbance?

In vanilla Elona your pets will eventually hit a wall in their growth and fall behind you, but in plus and oomsest they can grow as fast as, if not faster than you. Taking a little girl to the late game isn't optimal in either mod, but if you want to keep her around you can 100% make it work.

>> No.21332060

In plus everything eventually gets a ton of resistance to every element except magic, so that's the easiest and most reliable option. Supposedly some elements can overcome their resistances to outdamage magic if you stack enough debuffs, like applying element scar and wet status before using lightning.
Elements that inflict status ailments are really good early on but become less useful over time. Chaos is probably the best element to use for ailments since it can inflict almost anything.
I say just go with magic.

Strong, I get that. It just seems like bullshit rather than strength.
I mean, given that so much gauge is given from getting hit, especially from getting hit hard, giving power to heal from that is kind of overpowered in that the harder you go against it the more power it gets.

I'll try skills the next time I come against one, thanks.
From testing against other non-breath bosses, disturbance doesn't seem very effective since it eats the gauge from the player to reduce the same amount. Which requires the player to gain faster than the target, in which case I could just outpace it with MP drain eventually overpowering it from overcasting.
But the various Persuasion type [W]ide skills seem to work better, to some degree. Though they only reduce gauge by 10%, most gauge raising came from it getting hit rather than hitting me, so it might be good enough. Plus those chances at status effects that go against resistances.
All options moderately eat through stamina though. Could offset that by carrying around some soma, I guess. Delicious soma; a gramme is better than a damn.

oomsest is a later mod based on omake overhaul. omake and its descendents are a lot more like vanilla elona than plus is. platinum costs to learn skills are very high and potential is much harder to maintain. there's no act 2 and while you can visit south tyris, it's pretty much empty.

cool things about omake mods are that there are more types of dungeons with gimmicks that make them a lot more interesting, like a thieves hideout where every enemy is human and most are thieves of some kind, and the dungeon is full of extra dangerous traps and extra rewarding chests. there are dungeons where magic can't be used and dungeons where physical damage can't be used. there are zealot dungeons full of town npcs are human and try to kill anyone who worships a different god. stuff like that, they're generally more rewarding than generic nefia. npc adventurers also show up in dungeons and you can team up with them or get them overwhelmed by monsters so they die and you can loot their stuff.

there are tons of new feats that make character building a lot more interesting. most of them are combat-oriented like specializing in a specific weapon, counterattacking when dodging, or auto-reviving once per day, but there are also non-combat specializations like singing and prostitution. there are penalty feats that weaken your character in some way, but give you an extra feat point for taking them.

What do you even do with such character for the first like 10 hours? Hell, how do you even survive rank 1 ambushes with that?

>> No.21336972

>>21336503
One of the best pets in general is the defender because once per rest they can prevent the death of one party member, excluding themselves but including you. You can get away with a lot more risks with one around. It's a good idea to equip them defensively so they're not the first to die.

I don't know of anything besides the defender with a really outstanding ability, but any pet that can gain AP easily is viable late game since you can get high life, high speed, barrier, and chara quality up.

Most of the god pets are good. Cute fairies can get you seeds. Black cats can bless items dropped by enemies it kills. Androids only take 25% of physical damage. Black angels can insult and speed boost themselves. Golden knights can carry a huge amount of weight without being slowed down. The goose can create some extra platinum for you. The exile can cast multiple spells in one turn - I've never taken one to late game in E+ so I don't know if that ability scales well or poorly. They're good early game though. Defender is the best but none of them are bad.

I'm not sure what you mean by super bells, but the bell of termination is another top tier option. 2000 speed and huge resistances to most types of damage. The downside is they have 1 life and it will be difficult if not impossible to raise their AP. They also are unsuitable for riding like all bells. Equipping a set of rubynus equipment is good enough to offset their 1 life though. They don't come with many slots so use gene engineering to add the slots you want.

For riding, a good pet sequence is yowyn horses -> giraffe -> xeren auto tank -> yerles conbat plane. Usually I get enough AP to raise my own speed pretty high by that point so I stop riding. There are some pets that can beat 800 speed, but not many.

I do, and Plus has permadeath as a difficulty option so it's not just me. It's definitely better not to play that way until you're familiar with the game though. I keep a defender around and take barrier in plus or guts in oomsest, so that nothing can take me down in less than three hits no matter how strong it is. With that kind of buffer you don't need to be super conservative.

A lot of the roguelike fundamentals are applicable to playing permadeath Elona. Always have reliable escape and healing options. It's good to know the teleport spell, but since it gets shut down by status ailments it's a good idea to also have a rod of teleport or dimensional move.

The problem is that usually such things can be overcome with strategy and resources. Mobs with 3-4x stats, and even gods can be slayed reasonably as such.
It's quite frustrating to come to a healing wall from a mechanic that gets more effective the more damage you do against the target. And having to leave a 2x mob unkilled when I can normally face 3-4x fine, just due to that.

But really, I'm mostly just salty about blowing an hour, 15k Jure stock, and something like 100 mana rods on it, with MP drain to overcast it, trying to figure a way to beat it.
Then also finding out even the anti-gauge options don't drain accurately or fast enough anyway.

Surely I'll get over it, yeah. But finding a strategy to beat it would definitely be better.

Yeah that could work. I think I currently have 10 shots total of that.
And yeah it does mean a lot to me. It's a challenge I can't quite figure out, after a lot of grind and preparation. Clearly not enough though, so that's motivation for more.

Also reconsidering how gauge works.
I don't think it can pass 95-97% from incoming damage alone, so it should indeed have to get a hit off on me to max that.
Pushing resistances to an absurd level might work to prevent that, though that would feasibly mean either unlocking and using artifact fusion (Time to continue the story I guess) or having several specialized living weapon resistance sticks.
Then as long, as it doesn't pass a 100% threshold, it should drop down when out of sight just like it does for the player. So staying out of sight for as long as possible could fix that, after definitely avoiding letting it get to 100%.
Though it would often get 60-80% from being hit once (Much of the frustration comes from that), and it does drain slow as heck out of sight, that could be one solution. Healing isn't usually strong enough to overcome that.

But I still don't get WHY it heals. Like, it's just a convergence of breath.
Not really expecting realism, but the logistics of the matter don't make sense. If it's supposed to be super powerful then it should hit super hard instead, or maybe bypass some resistances.

>> No.21337922

>>21337865
I imagine it heals, because ano wanted a tanky strong mob, rather than one that does tons of damage. But, could still be dealt with when at higher levels. Or he just threw it in 'cause.

As for gauge, mobs will increase gauge passively as long as they see you, from the .89 changelog:

Changed the mechanic where NPCs had their power gauge increased by 15% if they did nothing during their turn while in combat.

Enemy and friendly NPCs will now have their power gauge increased only if their target is in their sight.
This means that they will no longer build up their power gauge out of your sight before engaging you.

Someone described it pretty well a couple threads ago I think. Basically if you stand still and attack something for like 10k turns it pushes an event, kind of like ragnarok but far more dangerous, with really powerful quickling enemies of some kind. I think those mobs can only be found in Curtain Call, but am not entirely sure.
The poster claimed to have beaten it with time stop shenanigans I think.

You can push nothing but magic damage for every single level and that would generally work great. It actually doesn't cap at ##### and just keeps going up.
And like he said, you could go with other elements too if you want. They have very beneficial effects early on, and can be powerful with status ailments like nightmare and elemental scar, but just don't scale as well as magic to the end game.

Stat levels, like say perception for ranged, work very very well at low levels to increase accuracy and damage. Probably amazing for inheritance.

Crit chance is kind of nice, but that caps off at a certain Eye of Mind level. Like at 700 something Eye of Mind crit bonus doesn't do anything, as far as I understand it. Before that it's pretty nifty.

Chance at absolute piercing seems to scale pretty well in the end game, even after mobs get magic resistance. Though it's generally not as useful as straight magic bonus.

But you'd still need to sit there for 10 turns hoping nothing hits you.

Enhances charging is ranged only, from what I can tell, so I don't have it there. It's 10x for 10 turns normally. I think it stacks with most normal damage things, but invokes don't work like you can see with gravity sphere.

One thing to keep in mind, it only makes the very first hit do extra damage. Not even multihit gets the boost, as you can see my damage drops right after the furthermore. So it's not exactly 10x damage. If you have 4 multihits, then you'd get 10x on the first, and 1x on the next three. So, 4x damage -> 13x damage for just over 3x total.

Town inns' shelters inherently include exercise machines and a random textbook. Others you'd have to provide your own.
Shelters, inn or buildable, do not make your character hungry as time passes. Everywhere else does.

Outside of those locations you'll build up ether mutations pretty quickly.

Once you have enough cure corruption potions you can just work through it if you want. Moving from dungeon to dungeon and whatnot isn't too troublesome.
Or you could savescum if you're gay enough for that.

So I've been wondering for awhile, is there any way to use an NPC sprite in place of the PC sprite? I ask this because trying out riding for the first time on a Yerles Conbat Plane only to end up on a tiny little potato horse was the most disappointed I had ever been in Elona. I guess I was just expecting the game to use the Conbat Plane's sprite instead. I know you can make custom ride sprites, but the size is pretty limited, being 32 x 48 instead of 48 x 48 or 48 x 95 for the larger NPCs.

I haven't really been able to find much information about this. Do most people just not care? Is it not practical? Not feasible? Even if Riding is of debatable usefulness, I've always wanted to do a pilot playthrough.

Gene engineering helps their stats if the gene donor has higher stats.

If you're playing plus, feed them herbed food at every opportunity. Tag them with yourself or a strong pet and go somewhere where you can get a lot of AP quickly. The early levels of the void are usually good. Use evochat to give them gold so they can train their skill potentials. It's been a while but I think pets in plus get skill points upon leveling up? If so, spend their points on their most relevant skills while their potential is high and they should catch up fairly quickly.

In oomsest feed your pet god-blessed food and god-blessed meat buns. For food you should mass produce puff puff bread from piles of gold on the ground and bless it all at once. Kumiromi and Inari are the best choices since they increase every main stat. Early game typically revolves around making a shitload of money in order to buy a house and hire magic vendors, which you then invest into until about rank 300. You can also invest into the Palmian potion vendor, but that's a hike from your starting cave.
This is the point where they'll stock potions of potential with some regularity. After that, bottles of water can be blessed by dropping them onto altars dedicated to your current god (empty altar if eyth) and then mixed with any item to bless it. Bottles of water are uncommon dungeon items and can also be sold by magic vendors.
Blessed potions of potential will raise all of your stats' potential significantly, which is how you fix that. Good methods of making money early game are cargo routes, e.g. taking tuna cargo from port kapul to noyel and selling them at a profit to the trader. Check adventurers you meet for the <super lure>, which makes fishing a very good source of income if you can trade them for it. Make sure to get the traveling skill, because that's a great source of exp for you and your other skills.

Kind of a waste yeah but whatever. You'll get more. Especially if you have a farm going and lots of herb seeds.

Focus on what the other guys said to focus on; money making for the future, and cooking for both money and covering hunger for now.
But probably save the herbs (And (herb) in herbs/food) until you've at least good/great, preferably superb, in the skills you want to raise. Or eventually all skills, once potions of potential are more common enough to ensure that.
Unless you're hungry and that's your only identified food. Better to eat and waste than to starve. Try to avoid that by having a fair stock though.

Huh. I don't know how a multiverse could be used for Elona.
Unless you have one really terrible thing coming from 1 or many universes to invade "ours", but that would make the rest irrelevant.

Or, an idea that will likely never happen.
>You finish act 4 and save the multiverse or whatever
>Rifts/chaos/plot device over takes you
>You wake up the cave from the very beginning, but... different
>Now you have been placed in a parallel universe to yours with nothing but the clothes on your back.
>It is basically new game plus, with everything in act 1 being scaled up to act 4 strength.

Actually, better question. How much vorpal or absolute pierce enchantment would it take for either of them to be "worth it" for act 3/4 content?

>> No.21368505

>>21368321
Mathemagically speaking, 4% vorpal is roughly equivalent to 4% pierce, to your long term damage. Vorpal caps at around 5,000 enchant, so each extra 200 vorpal is 4%. Now this overrides your normal pierce, it doesn't stack with it. So if you have a light saber, you'd have 100% with a 4% chance of 100%. Even in the best case where you have a 0% pierce nunchuck, it's a 4% bonus damage, with diminishing returns for each extra pierce.

Now, technically, mobs get a tiny percent of peirce reduction based on armor skill that doesn't work on vorpal. It's 1% pierce reduction every 50 levels, capped at half the weapon's pierce. So, a capped enemy with 2000 armor, would reduce pierce by up to 30%. So, your lightsabre example would average 70% with 100% 4% of the time, or 71.2% on average. Totally not worth it. Every 4% peirce beyond that would give diminishing returns, and it's already as tiny as 2% bonus damage, against capped enemies. It'll do less extra damage the weaker the enemy is.

100 points of magic enchant are pretty close to 10% bonus damage, that admittedly also have diminishing returns. But, even with 1000 enchant, another 100 is 5% extra damage. You'd need 1250 enchant and 0% peirce for vorpal to be more effective than stacking magic damage.

Good question, as far as I know Attribution uses MA's level as it's enchant. If that means 2,000 MA gets 2,000 enchant, then you can beat that, yes. Additionally, you should have a better multiplier thanks to 2-hand. But you won't have the 8 extra attacks, and the raw damage dice of MA can probably only be beaten by bloodrod, which can't get enough magic enchant. But, you can get north of 800+ of static damage so it might not matter too much? On paper, I'd say, maybe? It kinda looks like MA might still win in total damage if min-maxed right.

Museum's worth is based on how many figures/cards you have of monsters so there's not much point getting it early. The earlier you can get a shop up and running, the earlier you can start training the shopkeeper and it's nice to have a big house to just dump stuff.

>> No.21376370

>>21376302
Museum is first since it costs almost nothing to buy/maintain and you're gonna be getting interest on your investment from it for the rest of the game.
Shops are only worth it if you can consistently fill them with valuable items(high levels of cooking/fishing/gardening) since they cost 5k/month to maintain, so you don't really need to bother with shops for a while. If you have a hard time finding places to unload loot then they're not bad to have available, but I typically do house before shop.
Recommended early shopkeepers are thieves' guild members, which you can rod of dominate when you have around level 50 magic device.
If you have pets and charisma, I believe that the super lure can be bought for 10k music tickets and super lure fishing is VERY lucrative if you're running custom-g where fishing and cooking costs very little stamina.

Artifact fusion can add enchant levels depending on the type, static artifacts can have 2,000 total, <miracle> randoms can have 2,500, and {godly} caps at 3,000. It maintains, and innates, like life on rubynus, count towards this.

That's a soft cap, you can fuse over it, but you can't fuse anymore once you reach it. Also, going from cloth back to rubynus let's you get your innate back for free.

Living weapons get up to 1600-2400 if they go all magic, I think. If so, an empty miracle with nothing but magic can beat even a lvl 15 living weapon with only magic.

Basically Laser guns.

Damage dice is only a small impact. Most damage scaling comes from skills.

Distance modifiers are for accuracy. Accuracy is important, as if you miss your magic damage also misses.
With the fixity anchor it's always 20 regardless of distance. So once you're in act2 for that distance modifier won't matter against targets you can take a few hits from.
But until then, and against targets you have to teleport from frequently, it does matter. Definitely more than damage dice at the very least.

>> No.21390454

It's not just accuracy, it's also damage. If you have a modifier of 7, you'll only do 70% damage. You can test this with shotguns and stones, beyond about 3-4 tiles or so they default to 2, or 20% damage.

The fixity anchor, unfortunately, only fixes the accuracy. You keep the damage modifiers.

I haven't played Elona+ custom since updating my old ass 2013 install sometime in 2017 to 1.68, I get this pop up restoring my save everytime and haven't tested anything else to see if its fucked
Should I make a new character and fresh install or resume where I left off? I'm assuming it was after the OG chat server was taken offline and it's just an error from the host? I think I remember editing it to a temp custom server... is that still up? To update to newest version I backup my save and just got to my house? I remember having to do special shit because it was a dangerous update process.

What are the biggest things I've missed coming from 1.68? Patch notes are still kinda gobbledygook.

Alright thanks.
Never heard of Omake Overhaul, is it just a continued development fork of vanilla Elona like Plus/Custom was? What variant has the most discussion, English content, updates, and current players? Looks like OO has a final release whereas Plus/Custom is still regularly updated... going to assume Custom is still the best version?

jdestroy's server went down ages ago. Moongate functionality was never restored, and no one else has ever tried.
>What are the biggest things I've missed coming from 1.68?
BloodyShade made the source code human-readable, so there are now at least three mods built on top of Custom: Amylona, Custom-G, and most recently, Custom-GFU.

>> No.21395820

>>21395740
There have been other mods that build on OO, the latest of which is OOMSEST, which has an English fan translation.

If you're going with Plus, Plus Custom G is probably preferable over Custom. G undoes a lot of Ano's unpopular changes, such as thirst and the multihand nerf.

As for which is best, there's a lot of room for reasonable disagreement. Plus is largely focused around adding more content. OOMSEST feels much more like vanilla and is more focused on improving the original content.

>Looks like OO has a final release whereas Plus/Custom is still regularly updated...
There's a newer Omake variant called OOMSEST that's being actively translated. Last I heard the translation wasn't finished, but that was ages ago.
>going to assume Custom is still the best version?
Personally I'd say Custom-G, since it replaces all placeholder text with at least machine translations and removes (or adds tweaks to remove) various annoyances. You might prefer Custom-GFU if you want reduced grinding.
The Omake line is deliberately, explicitly closer to vanilla Elona. It's a different experience from the Plus line. Also, there's no English documentation like Plus has, and it's all closed source, so if you can't read Japanese you're going to have a hard time figuring out how various things work. That said, some people prefer its style of play to Plus. (Also, some people just want to avoid Ano completely. Frankly, I don't blame them.)

All of the changelogs for omake, OO, and oomSEST at least, are available in English. So as long as it's in the changelog there is documentation.
It's not organized like various wikis are, obviously, but it is documented.

Is that a separate thing to install on top of it? Or included in the official oomSEST release found on Twitter?

>> No.21396026

>>21395982
They are separate and install on top of one another, yes.

But I would definitely keep the old install untouched as a backup, and install the new one separate before copying over saves, personally changed files, and configs.
That way you DEFINITELY know you have a working version with working configs, saves, and other optional changes, to reference or revert to for any reason whatsoever.
And I would do that with almost any program considered in development that has saves/configs/mods, not just Elona.

For the most part you can just grab the releases of oo and oomsest from twitter, however oomsest seems to have forgotten a few of the files from when they translated OO, such as the hammer. So I'd recommend getting the English release of OO, rather than the twitter version, even though oomsest has most of the translation.

1.22 then oo then oomsest is the install order.

>>21396048

Kinda, the wiki has most of that, but some details never left the discord. For instance, the wiki only mentions how blacksmithing works, but not that you can craft the following item types: melee weapons, and helms, chests, girdles, gauntlets, and shields. The anon also forgot that oomsest's changelog builds on top of oomse's which was never actually released, they skipped ahead.

Borderless (fullscreen) is easy. There's a million tools for that, though you generally have to set your fullscreen resolution to match it beforehand. I prefer using AHK, and just including the borderless resizing to 1920x768 within my backup script.

The game can technically scale up to 868, it seems.
But that causes a chatlog bug when doing town job tasks that take you to other screens. Where it basically makes several lines of the log persistently blank and unreadable until the program is restarted. At least on my machine.

Decompiled code is not exactly readable. You can decompile practically every language somehow, and most often even recompile it.
You don't really call it open source just because you can decompile it.
Some languages don't even require decompiling, like Java. But they're so obfuscated that even those are considered closed source.

With Custom in particular, someone went through and made it all readable and easy to edit. Though a little hard to grasp without reading everything related to each variable/function.

I mean, it technically works as is if read aloud directly, but still comes off as weird because it's a dialogue box with her face.

Pretty sure there's other dialogue like that too, so there might be precedence, such that changing it would make things inconsistent. But it's still weird.
