2101900 No.2101900 [Reply] [Original]

I've been playing Touhou for two weeks now, so far I've been able to 1cc' th06, th07 and th08, but I still can't beat any of the extra stages. How many of you have been able to beat Flandre, for example? How long did it take you?

>> No.2101910

I didn't.

>> No.2101904

Now 1cc them on hard.

>> No.2101908

extra stage = memorization

>> No.2101909

Extra mode is between Hard and Lunatic in difficulty, not Normal and Hard.

>> No.2101920

Haven't yet.

>> No.2101921

>>2101909

I'd say Extra is around Hard, depending on the game. Different people have different experiences. Phantasm in PCB is a different story, though.

>> No.2101927

Took me two months to 1cc EoSD, but I beat Flandre less than an hour after.

>> No.2101930

The only extra I'm able to clear so far is Imperishable Night's. Watching replays and spellcard practice help a lot. For reference, I'm only a normal mode player.

>> No.2101936

>>2101909
Huh, no. Suwako is about as hard as Normal, Mokou is a bit harder, Yukari, Koishi and Ran at the border (Koishi is hardest of the triad) Flandre is the only one I'd consider very hard due to the number of lives you get for her and bias since I haven't gotten her down yet.

All Hards, one Lunatic (MoF), all Extras save Flandre cleared. 2 years or so player, but a year of that wasn't really playing and for 4 months I was recovering from Imperishable Night trauma where I had immense difficulty in shit like PCB Easy. 1ccing Touhou doesn't require a long period of playing, but rather a short, concentrated one of memorizal and execution.

>> No.2101932

>two weeks now
>1cc' th06, th07 and th08

Why am I so bad at shmups?

I guess I'm not the reaction type.

Back to RTSes.

>> No.2101934

>>2101904

I'm trying to beat them kinda in order, it would take me too long to 1cc'em on hard I guess so I won't try raising the difficulty for now.

>>2101909

So I heard, mainly I'm just curious how long did it took you guys to beat it.

>> No.2101948

Me too bro. I still like them a lot.

>> No.2101955

Half the battle is getting comfortable with the game. How to deathbomb consistently, that particular game's system (borders in PCB, Power in MoF and SA, etc) and then memorization of safe spots and cards comes next.

>> No.2101971

I never understood the boarders from PCB, how exactly do they work?

I've been up for 33 hours and am about to attempt a run of SA normal. How long will I last?

>> No.2101999

Also learning who to use for what. Sakuya A in PCB is awesome for just survival. Utilizing border hax, Malice canon, Youmu's power, etc in IN. Marisa B completely breaks MoF. Marisa C in SA to survive.

>> No.2102009

>>2101999

I used Reimu's team to clear IN, they are both pretty good there. I wish to use Marisa but no matter what Touhou I play I can never get used to her speed. I always end up drifting straight for a bullet.

>> No.2102013

>>2101955

Also learning who to use for what. It's pretty balanced in EoSD, but I'd go with Reimu B. Sakuya A in PCB is awesome for just survival. Utilizing border hax, Malice canon, Youmu's power, etc in IN. Marisa B completely breaks MoF. Marisa C in SA to survive.

>> No.2102026

>>2102013

Why does Marisa always get the broken game mechanics? Malice canon, then lasers of death, then super long bombs.

>> No.2102059

>Utilizing border hax, Malice canon, Youmu's power, etc in IN

Wait, what?

>> No.2102057

Suwako < Mokou < Ran < Yukari < Koishi < Flandre

>> No.2102064

>>2102026
Danmaku is all about power.

>> No.2102090

>>2102059

Border hax = super-long Last Word time and Reimu's freakishly strong Last Word to compliment it.
Malice Cannon = Rapidly tapping shift causes Alice's attack to strike familiars, and it destroys them effortlessly.
Youmu's power = dunno lol don't play Ghost Team

>> No.2102097

>>2102059

>border hax

The border team, Reimu and Yukari. The ability to move from one side of the screen to the other makes some cards that would have been hard easy modo.

>Malice canon

Tap the Shift button about twice every second, both of them fire, letting you rip through bosses faster than anything else in the game (well , 2 people are firing, after all).

>Youmu's power

Failing Malice canon, Youmu's 360 bullets with ridiculous power are also an option.

>> No.2102098

>>2102057
lol no

>> No.2102138

>>2102090

>Youmu's power = dunno lol don't play Ghost Team

Not Ghost team. Solo Youmu. Manually controlled 360 axis super powerful bullets that up close are second to only the Malice canon in raw power.

>> No.2102144

In about a year I got Flandre, Ran, Yukarin and Mokou with every character (except for Marisa/Alice in touhou 08).
Now I'm working in MoF and SA.
OP, I suggest you play once a day. It's better than going for 7 hours straight and don't touching the game for a week.
Also, play Shoot the Bullet. Makes you a lot better at touhou.

>> No.2102150

>>2102138
Is solo Youmu more damaging than Youmu in Ghost Team?

>> No.2102158

>>2102150

Depends on your distance from what your firing on. If everything connects, yes, she's the strongest in the game as far as I know (Malice is really 2 people, so it's not fair).

>> No.2102176

>>2102098

What's wrong?

>> No.2102180

>>2102158
Isn't Marisa solo as strong as she is? Problem is, since her shot is more spreadish, you have to get closer to the enemy to actually get even.

>> No.2104529

>extra stage = memorization

That is for everything. I keep seeing people fly up above bosses to avoid certain attacks, and it only works if you know when they are coming. Others I see sidestep slightly and just graze the whole bullet storm.

Not to mention how many replays seem to know exactly when the modes change so they can max points or just know when dodging isn't longer needed.

>> No.2104564

>>2102176
Suwako < Koishi < Flandre < Mokou
(don't come with shit like "spell practice makes mokou easy")
Ran and Yukari are somewhere inbetween.

>extra stage = memorization
True for most of it. Koishi is mostly skill based.

>but I still can't beat any of the extra stages
training + replays

>How many of you have been able to beat Flandre, for example?
First time? 50 tries or something. Now, I clear the first time if I don't die in the stage (if I do, I restart).

>Marisa C in SA to survive.

>> No.2104633

>>2104529

That's not really what people mean by "memorization" in this kind of game, though. There's a difference between knowing what wave is coming next and roughly what to do to dodge it, and memorising the exact sequence of movements to avoid a particular attack or wave. If you go into a stage past 3 or so and just try to twitch-dodge everything with no knowlege of what's coming next you are going to lose.

>> No.2104645

My typical clear time for extra is about 2-3 weeks after starting the game. my 1cc of lunatic usually comes a month to a month and a half after starting. Time depends on the game.

>> No.2104681

>>2104645
I cleared SA Extra on the second day, but as appears, I won't 1cc Lunatic before Reitaisai.

>> No.2105100
