His post just takes the main abstract idea of Maria's magic and specializes it to Christianity. Being less general doesn't make his points or a broader interpretation of his points invalid.

Among official stuffs, she's made super childish in the Anime, OG sprite and Alchemist one aren't much better, while there is the manga adaptations where she's indeed curvy, with even a quick omake that shows off how big she is in Minagoroshi. Like with Bern it's really inconsistent.

You don't get it, both of you.

This post is clearly made by a Christian who read Umineko, absolutely loved it, and wanted to interest other people in his community in it. Unfortunately, most Christians don't care about Japanese cartoons video games. So in order to interest them he needed to hook it into something close to earth, and so he invented an entire narrative in order to entice them in.

It's the most trivial thing unimaginable. How can you not understand the heart when it is so clearly displayed.

And yes, that's clearly autistic, but you are autistic, so you can't really throw the first stone here.

I had my absinthe phase some years ago, far before Umineko. Absinthe is the quintessential French hard spirit. It is the whiksy of French people. Many French don't drink absinthe nowadays but they lost their own culture. True French drink absinthe.

Right? Oddly similar ways to go. They've also both got their own metaphors. Beatrice drowning herself in the sea and vanishing into endless possibilities of the catbox, her tale sinking into the sea of fragments. Ange meanwhile compares the skyscraper as the border between this world and the next, with the world below beng reality while the one above is the place where her family went. She jumps off hoping to reach them, but in the end is forced to return to the world below.

One thing I really liked about both Higurashi and Umineko is how the tragedies that occur are the result of a seemingly infinite number of small misfortunes. It really seems to have a theme of tragedies being the result of a million small sins and how someone must atone for them. In many ways the Legend of the Golden Witch is a way for Ange to find peace with the death of her family much like Oyashiro's curse was a way for Hinamizawa to find peace

In the case of Umineko, it almost feels like a bit of a paradox. The tragedy is at the same time both an inescapable outcome brought on by an accumulation of events, as well as total happenstance that could be averted by various people at any turn. The circumstances and actions of those involved brought them to that outcome, but something as simple as George checking Sayo's corpse could have put a stop to it.

>The tragedy is at the same time both an inescapable outcome brought on by an accumulation of events, as well as total happenstance that could be averted by various people at any turn
It depends on how you determine what the tragedy really is. For me the tragedy is that the family's worst impulses all loaded onto Yasu and that it lead to Yasu going crazier than all the other members of the family. It reminds me of the situation of Satoko with how after a certain point the damage coming from her environment could become too much and break her. The tragedy might be that Yasu broke in the way she did.
I don't think George checking Sayo's corpse would really put an end to the tragedy.

I felt like such an idiot over the whole tattoo thing in Higurashi. I was trying to find clues for a switch the whole way through Episode 2, and when I got there, I couldn't believe that such a determined culprit would invite detection by revealing the tattoo. So I convinced myself that Ryukishi was faking me out, and that the identical twins were a really good red herring for at least 99% of the story.

By Umineko I was expecting something like that, especially with all the talk of the roulette wheel, but since the bluffs weren't quite as obvious, I don't think that helped me any.

I could but more when it comes to modeling characters that are in a more realistic style. That's not the case of Beato so well, not really interested, as animy style is indeed my preference.

I heavily disagree but matter of taste I guess. I like noses to be as undetailed as possible for girls.
Also both of those features changes quite heavily the look of a character, making them more feel like someone else.

That's a common point of confusion. It's not denial, though it may seem that way at a glance. Basically, Ange is accepting what happened as truth, but is choosing to look past it and continue believing in her views without raising contradictions. For example, it's a fact that Kyrie told Eva she didn't love Ange. Ange accepts that her mother did indeed say those things, but trusts that the reason for doing so wasn't because that's how she truly felt. It's the same with a bunch of other characters. Rosa abusing Maria is a fact, but you can still choose to believe that she loved her daughter all the same. Kinzo's yet another example, with the interpretation of his true personality being left open.

She even says she'll continue to believe in their true forms hidden beneath a disheartening truth.

Maybe it's not that simple. Take when Bern breaks the fourth wall.

Is she talking to Battler? To us? Or is she being completely honest and talking to a piece, and with this in mind we can understand Umineko in a different light.

In other words, Umineko might be a massive conflict of interests. Bern can view fragments, we can't. We see Lion as "Beatrice's hope", but maybe Bern sees Lion as "Holy shit, I literally searched through millions of kakeras and there's only one where you're a halfway decent person."

True, Bern says "I'm doing this because FUCK YOU BEATO REEEEEEEEEEEE." But even that might have some decent reasoning behind it.

In the end, Umineko witches are witches and you can't really trust ANY of them, so sure, go ahead with the "Evil Bern" take. But maybe just as she sees through millions of kakeras and gets fucking pissed at how consistently awful ''Yasu" is, she might also see how other people are "fundamentally good."

It's not necessarily the "right" way to see things morally - but it is HOW Bern sees the world. And then she has the Lambdadelta issue and all that other bullshit to deal with.

Could easily be pretending, in scenes where they only interact with eachother they are pretty serious, but the wanting to mutilate eachother part seems real enough, and at their level of existence and assuming how old and bored of everything else they are, torture is meaningless and even wanting to interact with someone means they are way more interesting than stuff they could easily find out travelling the sea of fragments, which just shows how much they care about eachother

Regarding Featherine this is when there is so little information most stuff to be said is headcanon about what is the proper interpretation of her
Personally I believe that even her is under their tier but this is absolutely baseless beyond the fact that they both act in a way that seems more "multiversal" while Featherine always sounds pretty contained in Umineko while her only apparent outside influence is the implication of her being Hanyuu or related to Hanyuu, but even then that could just be a meaningless reference or Ryukishi actually selfinserting

If we accept that Beatrice has an ulterior motive besides FUUUUUUUUUUCK YOU BATORAAAAAAAAAA AHAHA.wav, then I think it's more than possible to say the same for Bern and Lambda.

Or, inversely, maybe in the end Beatrice really did just wish to toy with Battler. "I can speak the truth in red" is a tautology, after all. Why should we believe she can do that anymore than we believe she has the power to make a mountain of jelly jam and dump it on us?

To me it just seems odd that even people who interpret the magical scenes as metaphors don't question the red text tautology.

It's hard to also read into something that is very blunt about being five layers of irony, but in Umineko Episode 6, Kanon, aka, "Yoshiya". shoots first in the duel. Bern talks about how the first person to move in chess is more likely to win. And of course, Kanon goes for miracles. Kyrie also gets a royal ass whopping when she claims not having to kill Asumu herself is a "miracle." A royal asswhopping by a Jessica whose IQ seems to skyrocket for the brief "possession" scene. And also has cat eyes.

And Beatrice chews Bern out for participating in her game during episode 2.

Might be oversimplifying it, buuuuuuuuuuut

Bern legitimately might be trying to help the pieces in Umineko. But the narrative - the narrative that is OPENLY ASKING TO BE DOUBTED - ALWAYS goes on about how bad Bernkastel is.

It's like, excessive at times.

But "the past and the future are all superscriptions of data." From our perspective, I take that to mean "Umineko, Higurashi, and the next WTC will all be sort of contingent upon themselves."

Although I dare say the more troubling aspect is that Higurashi appears as a book in Umineko. So we don't even need Bernkastel to break the fourth wall to have her "Mii Nipah" stuff make sense - we can conclude "She is talking to someone who read Higurashi and who views Rika as a hero."

But I don't know, I won't go into too much more detail, because rule 3 of COMPLICATED META SHIT is that us readers are the villains and I don't want to incriminate us too much.

*Sniff*, Ah, Umineko. Pure Ideology. You see, it frames itself as a mystery, but this is a trick from the get go.

You see, the default murder mystery thinking invokes a grudge. In other words, we put a negative light on the characters actions. Every secret must be exposed, every action scrutinized.

But Baseline Umineko, through Beato's facial expressions, music, etc, makes us think "wait, there might be more to this." And this is where, *sniff*, in my opinion, the true frustration begins.

After episode 4 and 5, the average reader has been shown, repeatedly, that Beatrice is cruel and pretends to be nice just to become even more cruel. Yet, episode 5 has a lovely song and a lovely scene where Battler rises from the dead and Beatrice - the woman who anyone with a brain would distrust - becomes a Saint.

We must not forget that Umineko was released as a serial. So, while it may seem ridiculous for all these people to have theories, *sniff*, that is PRECISELY what the Visual Novels release was designed to do.

But then the answer arc presents people trying to figure out the mystery as evil, heartless - indeed, resorting to fairy tale like prose to insult the detective - saying "That mean nasty Erika was at it again!"

Well, anyways, this all culminates in an "official" answer that the crime was facilitated by a DID meido. The happy ending is the family the DID meido fighting off a bunch of literal strawmen - here meant to represent the audience - with the same family she supposedly killed!

The VN is full of contradictions. Only red statements are true(itself a tautology), but don't ignore the white, except of course, when you should. Oh, and don't ignore the heart - yet the more and more one looks, the more and more the heart seems to be one of darkness.

It should be blatantly obvious that ANY reader of Umineko, casual or otherwise, should walk away from the experience feeling so to speak somewhat disappointed. Even if they have a thick skin and do not so much relate so to speak to the Goats, or enjoyed the music, or the experience, it all doesn't add up.

The work can be recontextualized - and of course it will - but in general, Umineko is frustrating. It can ask the reader "Why do you care so much about this story?", but the reader is more than free to retort "Why on earth would you write such a story?"

That also bugs me. Wait, we're supposed to buy into Virgillia's BS even though she conned him before? Oh, but this time the music is all somber and serious, so I guess Virgillia is telling the truth this time when she tells Battler to trust Beato

But ultimately we're NOT Battler. We're not necessarily the cruel goats who devour the mystery for the fun of it either. Whatever Battler realizes in the chapel, truth or delusion, is not something we realize.

Oh, we get "My Confessions" as a manga by R07, but the guy is a certified troll who chalked up being able to solve the whole story based on "woman's intuition."

Well, understanding something isn't necessarily dependent upon intelligence. Experience, too, can be a factor. Lots of thing can be a factor.

I think Duncan and Rosatrice and those other assholes might have had a point. Isn't it sort of ironic how we've gone from "Accept the witch", in the first chapter, to "Accept the DID meido" after the fact? It's quite similar to Battler's frustration. People say "Wait, there's a few things that don't add up", and the rest of the folk put pressure on him to just give it up and accept what is being fed to him.

This could all be a case of throw a brick to receive a jadestone, though.
>>20977162
>There's no such thing as convenient as red text in real life

If our premise is to deny the supernatural, I find it no more reasonable to accept that Beatrice can conjure gold from nothing as I do to acknowledge she has the power to speak the truth in red.

Or altering things up a bit - Battler discovered that the woman who murdered his family did so because of a promise he made as a kid, and that made him repent and cry for Beato's death?

There's gotta be something else besides the answer we all seem to accept.

>You get the ability to try and view the story outside of the self admitted witch of illusions ruleset.
All I'm saying is that rejecting this premise and what it represents (the storyteller's ability to be trustworthy) means you lose any "objective" way of interpreting her role in the story. Which gives you license to easily explain away literally anything she does with "it was just a prank". In this sense, you don't gain anything by rejecting this baseline premise, since then you don't have any real ground to stand on when trying to interpret the reasoning behind her actions.

>But ultimately we're NOT Battler.
We're not entirely him in all of his forms, but he's clearly supposed to represent a potential part of the readership at certain times. Same with Ange and Bern.

R07 clearly understands the infinite power authors have in relation to their stories, and he clearly understands that infinite power can be abused. I can't say for certain whether he considers destroying the most straightforward application of "without love it cannot be seen" to the mystery behind Beato (which he himselfs says is the answer) to be an abuse of power, but I'm just going to go ahead and assume that he does (based on the ep8 tea party scene with Featherine).

>If our premise is to deny the supernatural
You still haven't given any compelling reason to make this our premise.

Well, if Beato is a being empowered by those that accept her and the supernatural, and, more importantly, she is a cunt with said powers, then yeah, don't accept the supernatural. Accepting her after she's done nothing but be cruel about using her powers is silly. Oh she gave candy to Maria, that totally makes her cool!

>>20977312
But R07 was talking about those who arrived at the truth, not those who arrived at the shadow of the truth. Ironically it's me that's talking about an encroaching shadow, though I don't think that makes me a woman.

>empowered by those that accept her
All of magic and magic-negation work that way at a literal level, Maria's magic included. This is why Battler can be affected by Ange's magic and endless nine (selective denial of magic) at the same time, thus showing Ange how she can still use her magic by suppressing the aspect of herself which lost all hope, making Bern lose her control over Ange.
>done nothing but be cruel about using her powers
Are you sure we're talking about the same character here?

>the truth
>the shadow of the truth
You can't even prove that these two are distinguishable using your framework. You might well arrive at the "truth" using your method, but you'll never know you did. And what point even is there if you'll never know why it's that way?

What's your opinion on who Beato is/what she represents?

A truth you don't know you know might have more value than a lie you firmly believe in. Unless you believe so much in the lie you make it come true, of course.

What if it ties into Umineko Saku? Imagine if he expands on the Trick ending as its own Fragment.

Well, Saku means bloom, and Battler and Beatrice dove into the sea and became a flower at the bottom of the abyss.

Something to do with that.

Namely endings with ahaha.wav aren't meant to be taken seriously.

I can't believe I'm such a brainlet.
