There's also the fact that most of these groups have really short shelf lives, if that's the right term to use here, regardless of whether they sell or not. 90% of chika idol girls really don't aim to do this as their career. It's both a hobby and probably one of their two or three part time jobs to get by after moving out to the big city. They might dream of doing it as their job, but they know that's all it is, a dream. I'm also an impulsive spender so I know I'd spend most of my money if I were there in Japan going to the concerts, knowing it goes to the group (mostly management) directly. But pissing away substantial amounts through shipping, proxies and various other costs, just for a sense of self-satisfaction and the illusion that I'm "helping" a group that'll most likely be gone in 9 months just seems silly to me.

The only one that really struck to me of those I didn't know before and wasn't able to find any working links to pirate is Toricago, and when I asked here about pirating their albums I was told to fuck off which I guess isn't only for anti-piracy but they seem "huge" here. But I couldn't even find any official site, only some songs on Youtube... I'm really confused by that.

They only focus on uploading, which is why they go after torrents as it's mutual. No one has ever gotten in legal trouble for downloading anything except torrents as far as I know, so it should be fine and I pirate music at least monthly without problems. Whereas all torrent sites are blocked, no site with Mega or such seems to be.

Unfortunately I don't, or rather I don't want to even though my dad keeps telling me to use it because it can't be downloaded from and I don't think ripping is possible either. I'm pretty much a hoarder as well, including with music (connected to being a shopaholic), so if I can't download something I usually won't even listen to it. No that's fine, I'm more or less the same with hoarding, and have autism when listening to an artist's discography - I have to be certain I'm starting from the beginning, or earliest possible point available from what I can download, and it all has to be in the same quality if possible, and then I need to listen to each release two or three times before moving on to the next.

There only seems to be a rip of Toricago's second album, Legacy, floating online, but at a rather economic bitrate.

I'm the exact same way! Except with English-language pop and dad rock... I'm not sure why they're exceptions, but maybe it could be because my dad subjected me to those so much as a kid? In any case, with everything else it's usually like what you describe. Only with those that are impossible to find or something earlier sounds horrible when I've already heard something newer and enjoyed it, I'll make an exception.
