I've been here 8 months and this is the third time I've seen the question asked here, all within the past few weeks. Moreover all the decks I see recommended here like core2k and vncore do not have furigana on the front of the cards which would be the only good reason for removing furigana, meaning the three of you have to coincidentally be finding some retarded deck that is not recommended here, or you're coincidentally stupid in such a specific way so as to think furigana in a deck is a bad thing. Plausible, but it's also plausible that it's the same guy fishing for better answers.

If you're not the same guy it must be frustrating to get that answer, but that doesn't mean he was wrong to assume you're the same person.

tl;dr do core2k or vncore from the CoR. I wonder if the ankiweb vncore deck has furigana on the front of the cards and you low IQ dipshits think that's the vncore being recommended here.

If you're having trouble learning a word, learn a longer word

...for example, I used to get 社会 and 会社 mixed up all the time...I knew what they both meant, and the pronunciation is obvious from the kanji, but I could never remember which meaning went with which one. After learning compound words containing both, like 株式会社, and 社会問題, I don't have that problem anymore.

It works for single words too, not just pairs of words...for some reason, I could never remember what 取り立て meant until I learned 取り立て金, and I had a hard time with 放送 until I learned 公共放送. (If the word has a lot of alliteration/assonance, or is otherwise fun to say, it will be more memorable.)

It's not that the longer word gives you any particular insight into the meaning...it's just that your brain will automatically fill in the "missing" part of the longer word when you're looking at the shorter one. It's like using the English phrase "vacuum cleaner" to remind yourself what a "vacuum" is.

turkish has extremely similar grammar to japanese, such to the extent that there were theories of them being the same language family, it is also much harder phonetically than japanese. and yet it's only a category IV language. clearly the grammatical aspect is not the major influence on time it takes to learn.

the difficult is 100% in whether or not there are many shared words. grammar isn't intuitive between languages.

no this doesn't follow for a couple reasons, but the really obvious one is that someone from tokyo has likely heard people from osaka their entire lives. my analogy was entirely apt for the same reason - a foreigner with a heavy chinese accent would be harder to comprehend than a southerner. the latter is native but just a different dialect. he may be more comprehensible to a midwesterner than a swedish ESL with an accent more similar to standard american english.

there arent millions of ways to fuck up pitch accent in the same way you can butcher general pronunciation. if japanese are used to hearing various pitch accents thru regional influences then it's not like someone can come in and throw them off with some random ass shit in the same way a chinese ESL might fuck up and prevent someone who is used to regional dialects from understanding.

for the first few months reading was very difficult, and learning words from it was virtually impossible. anki was the much better choice for me. but as i learn more words and comprehend more of what i'm reading, the easier it is for me to remember words while reading. so readtards might have the right idea but they should definitely keep their propaganda away from first-monthers.

Matt's English pronunciation is shit (if you talk about mastering the meme accent). But you can understand him so it's fine. The same with Japanese. If the person in front of you can understand you, you are fine.

I have the feeling the only reason he tries to meme the bullshit accent is because he has wasted too much time with Japanese. And with wasted I mean instead of studying or using textbooks, he created his own useless Anki cards and did retard AJATT (which is worthless if you really want to master the language). If you would have just stfu and learn the fucking textbooks and then would have combined reading hard stuff with Anki, he wouldn't have to blame the meme accent for his bad Japanese.

In the beginning using textbooks seems like a boring time waste, but if you really used textbooks from the beginning and really learned what is inside (vocabulary with anki and grammar with repetition), you don't have to realize after 5 years that your Japanese is a mess and because of the missing textbooks you can't just remember everything easily by looking into your textbooks again for a few minutes.

The only good thing he did was learning Kanji with Heisig. After this he went full retard. I bet he will blame his "pitch accent" in 10 years for being bad at Japanese.

in terms of comprehension or in terms of output? because one example of "unintuitive grammar" for english natives that other guy gave was gendered nouns in german which is actually trivial for comprehension for an english native.

i could almost buy the grammar being harder for output. although not really, because it'll still be more intuitive than a distantly related language with completely different sentence structure. but there's no way comprehension is as difficult. inconsistent/more rules != more difficult.

i came up with a new idea
trilingual sentence cards
on the front is a sentence in two different languages you are trying to learn which will reinforce each other and give context for your shortcomings in one language
on the back are definitions in your native lang

it's helpful to memorise at first because it saves you have to look shit up all the time. there's nothing wrong w/ having a basic understanding of something in your head that will eventually be replaced by a more nuanced understanding given time. you're not gonna fuck up the process, just make it easier.
