To the anon that answered my question regarding DDR cabs, thanks. I was loooking into owning one at this point due to not being able to find any flux pads.

Are ddr cabs easy to mod to play stepmania or should I drop this idea and seek pads instead?

>> No.20726291

Pads are easy as fuck to set up.
Cabs take up a fuck ton of space and do what a low end PC, a decent TV or monitor, and a good pad can do for less money.

There are various ways of going about this, especially if you don't exactly care about working lights.
The main thing is you need some sort of adapter to convert your cab wiring into something you can hook up to a PC, and depending on what kind of monitor your cab has you may need a video card in your PC that can support 320x240 @15 kHz.
There are guides out there on how to set up a J-Pac for use with a DDR cab.

If you can somehow get your hands on a Minimaid those are a nice all-in-one solution specifically for this purpose, but they have long been out of production and are hard to find used.

The GHETT.io is a way of going straight from the pad wiring to usb.

FEFEMZ is definitely a more well-rounded and flexible player. Since private cab ownership is so common in the US, it seemed to create players that are great at grinding out WRs and playing well only on machines that are maintained to their lofty standards. This is probably why the Super Extra Exclusive results were completely different from KAC.

I was on the reddit page of ddr and saw that minimaid thing mentioned as well as a lumenar device. Unfortunately after digging i found out that both devices are no longer in production, best way as of now seems jpac plus the method you listed.

This will add to costs being higher than expected but will be lucky with setting it lower assuming i find either device for less than 500 on ebay or the zen site bst. Thanks again for info but the last few hours have been spent researching on this and its scared me off but ill continue looking into it because for whatever reason cabs are easier to find than flux pads where i am.

It's possible to use a Pacdrive to control lights. You can run the risk of blowing out your neons if you wire things wrong though.

Someone was recently working on a plug and play lighting board like the LumenAR called LIT. However they seem to be testing them still and aren't producing them quite yet.

All lights in a DDR cabinet are switches that lead to transistor relays. Translation: short the light line on the connector to ground, and the light turns on. No need to feed power to it, and as stated, that can blow shit up. The LumenAR uses opto-couplers to keep things isolated, with fuses for safety so things can be plugged in backwards, and they act as switches. Apply 5V (with a resistor) to the optocoupler pins, LED inside turns on, opening and closing the isolated connections for the switch. The LIT board copied this design, and they both copied it from the 573 design Konami came up with decades ago.

same here. no sticking buttons, but the buttons are loud as shit (not really a big deal for me since i'm slapping the fuck out of them anyway), but the buttons sit higher than the buttons i've played on cab, so that can feel a little "off" depending on how regularly you play on cab

Sound Voltex is a shitty, gimmicky rhythm game characterized by its six buttons and two knobs symmetrically placed. At its basic core are the four square buttons employed by hundreds of swiftly made mobile rhythm games ever since the inception of the iPhone, everything else is added fat and sugar to appeal to its mediocre audience. The so called knobs, are the pure embodiment of artificial difficulty, detracting focus from the songs themselves and sacrificing rhythm for strange sounding warbles and awful remixes. No different are the two rectangular "FX" buttons fitted near the bottom, together with the knobs distorting perfectly fine melodies into what could now no longer be called music, all for some added challenge and so that people have somewhere to put their thumbs. How could it get any worse, you may ask, well then I will direct you to the disproportionate amount of anime styled girls in the game, this addition being the only way to keep fans satisfied in their quest to push against the aforementioned artificial difficulty. More disgusting is the complete embracement of its mobile roots, shown by its in-game "gacha", allowing you to pay double for a plastic card. No, not a trading card—that wouldn't suit the lazy design of this game—an image file printed on a plastic card, which a depraved fan would look at with glee, uttering phrases like "so cute!". The physical cards have no value of course, but one would be possessed to print out over forty of these, just to receive their favorite character floating through the menus of the game, before hammering out an ear-splitting remix of a Touhou song with seemingly no rhythm assigned to the chart, and an obscene picture of an anime girl above the song's title to boot. And after considering all of this, we will come to the same conclusion mentioned before. Sound Voltex is a shitty, gimmicky rhythm game, that no one should touch under any circumstances, less they become half of a man they once were.

can someone explain what random, r-ran, s-ran, etc does

>> No.20771633

>>20771604
there are websites that do this for you but I guess I'm feeling nice today so

random: takes every lane except for TT and shuffles them randomly, so nonran key 1's keys would be on key 5, etc

r-ran: short for rotation random, does what it sounds like, rotates the lanes (except for TT) so for example lanes 1,2,3 would be on 4, 5, 6.

s-ran: short for seeded random or something. each note gets is randomed onto one of the seven lanes. Can cause a lot of songs to get jack patterns. Also songs with long jack patterns can get split up. It has some algorithm that if something is fast enough then it won't make it into a jack. H-ran is a mod that works a lot like s-ran but it's easier because that algorithm mentioned above doesn't make jacks above a much slower speed. As a result h-ran scores don't save. S-ran is usually harder but some charts that are really bad benefit from it. Try it on songs below 140bpm, particularly old stuff. People also use it on macho gang and sakura
