C95 is almost here! Looking forward to anything? Let me know and I'll see if I can pick it up at the event.

Hirote will be hosting a live event featuring choko, mameko, toromi, kuesu hatena and gakiko on the 29th at noon, reserve here https://twipla.jp/events/349422

About that event, I assume after reserving online it's pay at the door? Having reserved wanna make sure there isn't anything else I need to do beforehand.

Hello denpa thread. Here to write about the live event, sorry I took a while, I accidentally deleted what I was writing. It's gonna be rough because I'm writing in the morning comiket rush.

No surprise, it was great! I wish I remembered a glowstick though. All the artists, besides Toromi, put their setlist on Twitter so you can check that too for more info. It was a small show of around 40-50 people, but the energy was worth over a hundred people.

I'm not too familiar with Gakiko but she started the show off great! She came out in a plaid dress and bow in her hair and got us all in the mood.

Hatena Kuesu was next and she was really fun. She has a great sense of humour on her channel and she did here too and it was fun laughing at her jokes and enjoying her performance. Logic Girl is great and I hope someone can pick it up since I probably can't I really enjoyed her performance of 走れ!マキバオー, where she got the first two rows to do a conga line (more of a circle) and go around during the chorus. She put in so much energy and you could tell from how out of breath she was. It was the most energetic performance there for sure.

Mameko came third and you can see what she wore in the picture. I was listening to カップラーメンのうた outside the hall and it was so great to hear it live so soon after. Someone had made a cup ramen glowstick for it which mameko pointed out and held up.

After their sets the performers joined the back of the audience and cheered too. It was cool to be cheering in the same crowd as Mameko.

Toromi came out in a gothic sailor dress and straw hat. Toromi is a truly amazing performer, her stage presence is something else. Her dances were elegant and well-rehearsed but she also brought a fun and exciting side to her performance. She had prepared props and everything and she blew me away with her performance of まるコン・愛のテーマ -お兄ちゃん入れて-, where
she had a stagehand spin her on a platform. I respect her even more now. And her voice is, in fact, THAT good in person too.

Last of course, was Choko. I'm already a fan enough of her but I am so much more now. She came out in a frilly blue yukata adorned in bows. She has a wonderful stage presence, it was casual, in the sense that she was just doing her best to give the crowd the best show she could. A lot of the crowd were there for her and gave her a lot of energy, knowing what actions to do at what songs. You could hear murmurs from the girls in the crowd of "kawaii" and she was. A major highlight was her performance of ぱりないぱにっく, which is my favourite from Happy Night Festival, one of the denpa releases I had heard and was an amazing performance with so much energy as the last song of the day. During an earlier song she made us look down we could only look up when she said and she had neko gloves and ears on. Through the song she'd high touch people and 'charge' 10000 yen each it was great. For がうがうに気をつけて! everyone crouched down and jumped up at the "Kimi no switch on!" part which was a great moment.

After Hirote expressed gratitude towards everyone in attendance, it was time for sales. Choko, Toromi, Mameko, Hatena Kuesu and Gakiko each had a table set up to sell their goods. Since Day 2 and 3 of comiket are about to be costly, I had to limit myself, but I made sure to speak with Toromi and Choko.

Toromi was gracious and courteous and as I told her how impressed I was by her performance she laughed and patted my shoulder in an "oh you!" sort of gesture. I told her I had come from overseas and she gave me a handshake as I bought a CD.

Choko's line was the longest by far, there were a good 20 people in that line out of the 50 or so people. While I was waiting, Hirote spoke with the various people waiting and I took a second to speak to him. I told him about the discussions on denpa that we have overseas and he was surprised to hear there was a foreign community interested in his music and following it closely. He's a very cheerful guy that was reassuring to talk to, even when my Japanese wasn't all there. He thanked me for my support and I thanked him for organising a great live.

10 minutes before sales finished, I finally made it to Choko's table. I was surprised by how much more flustered I was and had some difficulty speaking Japanese clearly. I told her much the same things I had said to Toromi and Choko expressed utter surprise that I had come from overseas to support her. While Toromi was very professional and knew just what to say, it seemed she didn't know what to say, but she was thankful and shook my hand. I bought a CD and she told me to come see her tomorrow (today) at comiket.

With that, I left, I was a little disappointed not to get the signed board from mameko and hatena kuesus CD but it is what it is.

Thanks guys, I'm just happy to share denpa with everyone as it's been shared to me, wouldn't get to have seen the event without what I've learned from denpa threads. I really hope you guys can go to one too.

カップラーメンのうた really was fun. I wish I had more to write about Mameko, she was great. To clarify my interaction with choko, I feel like I came across negative, but she gave a very earnest reaction and I was very appreciative for that.

>>20516844
I found myself thinking about that today, I do wonder how much longer Toromi will be active and I do hope it's a while yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the case.

Thank you for the good luck, I'm happy to share.

I picked up as much denpa as I could manage. I didn't get to pick up Miracle Luminal Pop unfortunately, but hopefully I can when I get back home. I got 6 CDs, at the top of the pic is a calendar and that confetto book comes with a cd. When I get home this coming week, I'll rip them and upload here.

I bought from Choko and Hirote, Toromi and Momobako in person. It seems I was one of the first to Choko and Hirotes booth and as I walked up they recognised me from yesterday's event and called out to me. They called out my nationality as I walked up it was kind of funny. I made brief conversation and made my purchase. Toromi recognised me too from yesterday and asked me to come support her next time too and I said of course (hopefully I can keep to that) and I took a cd. Momobako has a great voice in person which was spot on to her recordings when she was selling me the goods too, which was a pleasant surprise, though the queue behind me didn't give any time to talk unfortunately.

Well I couldn't spot her when I was at the stand and didn't hear her but she might have been.

I think so, the wall circles like poyahchio, mmbk, confetto, etc. are doing well and have minor queues even just after admission starts. The other smaller stands seemed to be doing okay too and had people coming through throughout the day as far as I could tell though naturally it wasn't as busy, with much smaller but very dedicated fanbase. I think online sales are something to think about too and obviously I can't really comment too much on that, but I do remember CandyPopParty selling out very fast online.

She has quite a varied range though. She is into musicals and stuff and does a lot of different vocals.
For example, alto range: https://nana-music.com/sounds/03965917/

>> No.20541239

She has used her deeper voice in some of her songs too. Her range is amazing, but I especially like that no matter which tone she is instantly recognizable. Her voice has some quality to it that makes it stand out. But I'm surprised her squeaky denpa voice is actually not heavily edited at all. For example, sometimes when you hear anime VAs in person doing their character, they sound completely different because their voice was heavily edited.

Here's a dump of releases I've ripped. I went with the cover art from online since I figured it would be more accurate than a scan of it. I also scanned the booklets for each release (besides Confesta, which I haven't got a good way of scanning the entire book, though I scanned the lyric pages for both songs) and that's included under image.

Everything was ripped in dbPowerAmp with AccurateRip configured at FLAC lossless level 5 but you can see that from most of the tags. I did take some tags from iTunes when dbPoweramp couldn't find metadata to save some time (iTunes was very good at grabbing the metadata, so I would copy the tags with mp3tag). Let me know of any problems.

thanks anon! I really like the international denpa community, we're quite friendly and our threads aren't toxic like some other ones here in the otaku culture part (cough cough idols cough cough).

I listened all stuff, my humble opinion:
- Picolonauts7 has the highest "denpa" quality compared to the other three albums
- toromi with just two songs managed to almost make me ruin my replay button
- momobako is really into a "future bass denpa style". I like it, but its boring sometimes. I like her cute denpa style, 2010-2016 era (she still doing it but in collabs with miko and others, not solo anymore)
- confetto album is great, now I know how to make Confesta

I feel the same too. We're pretty small and eager to help each other out and I appreciate that, makes you want to contribute in return.

It always feels safe to expect a denpa release from Poyachio to be the better ones of the event. I guess that's how it is when you've been making albums like these for so long, still gotta go listen to the first few picolonynauts. I love Poyahchio for always being able to get a classic moe denpa sound from so many artists with sounds growing more different everyday as well stuff that's interesting and new. ビビビビビッド!!!!! is such a good track, I love A than_lily. I like her Yunomi works, but they are the most boring to me too. That said, the best thing to come out of her newer sound is her original compositions. I adore songs like Sore wa Momochan no and they make me love momochan continue as much as the earlier works. The Confesta track with mmbk is so easy to listen to it's great.

It's been some time since I last saw one of the denpa threads, so I'll start by writing a bit about some about my opinion on the albums brought up in the thread.

How to make Confesta!: A fun listen! Though not something I'd listen to on a regular basis, if at all. Glad to see Kokon Koko join the fray, she's performed numerous times as backing squeaks. I'll also note the composer and lyrcist for the second track: IOSYS's D.Watt, who is also Shichijou Lettuce. Why he used two separate aliases for one song, I don't know. But I'm glad he's still into it. Should be 40 this year, producing doujin music for more than 20 years, and he's never been the most "shelf-stable" person. He's doing his best for us. Maybe he's been motivated by Maron's 8 minute touhou arrangement on "Touhou Gokuraku Yukai" to create something so lengthy. The second track is rather peculiar with its shifting styles.
Picolony Nauts 7: I wasn't really impressed by the crossfade, but listening to everything in length makes me view it a bit differently. At this point Poyachio's works become some sort of benchmark of modern denpa for me. I feel like the formula has been thoroughly exhausted, unfortunately. The moe is turning bland. The high-pitched singing is accompanied by composition that uses familiar samples and melodies, but I don't think it's striking enough. The lyrics are becoming less intricate, featuring simpler approaches to moe that are less satisfying.
Yunobox: I like Momobako but not to a point of listening to her continuously, but ultimately, it's just that I don't like Yunomi's composition.
Choko-chan's Sleep Well CD: The moe side of moe denpa music. I somewhat wanted to sleep throughout the CD, but couldn't because I wanted to actually go through them. I don't think the guitar and high-pitched normal singing combines too well, and they certainly don't create a denpa atmosphere. Perhaps it's easier to just not treat it as denpa in the first place.
Petorophilia: I don't like this album as much as her slightly older works, especially those together with Poyachio. "女子力乙女の超能力" of Petit Rhythm Roku and "飯テロ警察24時" were more my style. Though her voice is as pretty as ever, and her persona remained largely the same, I don't enjoy the composition as much.

I recently ordered a large number of doujin CDs, but of them only four arrived. The two mid-2000's Momoi Haruko "Famison 8-bit" CDs, "Pandasan Youchien" of Hyper Mirrorve Rebirth, as well as "Odenpa Oden wa Odenwa de".

Thank you of being there to speak of the overseas denpa community. Of my experience of speaking to denpa and other doujin vocalists on Twitter, many of them are unaware of any following outside Japan. Even without finding the proper words to answer you, I am sure they are most grateful.

>>20541063
Her singing in "Kimi ga uso wo tsuitta-" of "Zannen Idol Fubin-chan"(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTt1UDLdL1c)) is also exemplary of her vast vocal range, though not as much as what you sent. There are not many who are capable of the same feat. I can safely name Ai Ohsera and Yamamoto Momiji as vocalists with vocal range fit for both purposes.

>>20542089
I was exposed to AKICat some time ago after running through the various albums sent within the past denpa threads. Among them I found the aforementioned one called "Odenpa Oden wa Odenwa de", which had very "impressive" artwork. The titular first track was so incredibly stupid and upbeat that it very quickly won my heart. Here is my attempt at translating it, though it wouldn't consider it too accurate considering the vague lyrics: https://pastebin.com/79LQdp3L
What a blast. Denpa to live for.

That was a good write-up, I'd say you're pretty on point on each album and I appreciate some of the context you brought to it.

Yeah, I don't really regard Choko's CD as denpa either and didn't while listening to the xfd. It's a collection of covers of popular anime and game songs so there's really no denpa to it. Her being a denpa artist popular here though, I figured it'd be remiss not to include the rip anyway.

I'm glad that you're picking up miracle luminal pop, it's something I feel bothered by not getting.

Yes, I was glad to be able to share the dedicated western fanbase out there. Even though they were above all else surprised, I could definitely tell by looking that they were grateful, even if they were too taken aback to put in into words.

Toromi debuted in Petit Ferret's Popotan(2002) as the character Mii. There she learned how to draw, and also sang for UNDER17(based on her interview in 'Moe Manifesto'). At the earliest, she'd be working for them at 18 years old, which consequently translates to being around 35-36 today. However, she could well be slightly older than that, but I wager she's younger than Momoi Haruko(who is today 41).

Toromi is most likely born in december 1976 which would make her 42 years old. She may even be a few years older considering the circumstances.

She debuted as a okashi-kei idol (thats a kind of semi-gravure idol, mostly younger girls but not too explicit stuff) in the early 1990's. Cream was one of the early okashi-kei mags, which she appeared in. These kind of mags mostly disappeared in 1999 when a law was passed to protect young models and get rid of borderline CP stuff.

She went under the name of Sakurai Miyoko (桜井美代子) back then, but she has also appeared as Hashimoto Kumi (橋本久美), Kitagawa Akane (北川あかね), Koizumi Akane (小泉あかね) and Jindai Sakura (神代さくら).

Her birth date has been cited as December 3rd, 1976, but also as December 20th, 1976, December 5th, 1981 and also as sometime in 1977 when appearing as a gravure idol. It is worth nothing that she is not telling people when her birthday is when active as Toromi.

Afaik she has been active with otaku stuff, cosplaying, drawing and so on since the mid 90's. She understands English pretty well and will probably read this, too.

Pic is a telephone card from the Cream days.

I was planning on asking for some more information about them, but I read through some material on them now and I understand. Okashi-kei is a type of gravure photography, focusing on young girl themes, often including school uniforms, gym clothes and swimsuits, and mostly employing girls under 20, as it seems. The name okashi-kei, "sweets type" is given after the various magazines using confectionery for their naming, for example "Cream".

I also read that okashi-kei was influenced by the rise of cosplay photography in the 80's and early 90's. Cosplay and "moe" brought a different sort of attraction for gravure photography, which was mostly based on swimsuits and lingerie at the time. I am also aware of the Showa-era bromides, which were commercial photographs sold of movie stars, singers and idols. I don't know exactly whether the bromide industry was one and the same together with gravure or not, but they might have been both influenced by one another. Were gravure idols really printed on telephone cards? It seems like an odd way to consume gravure. Appropriate for an age before mobile phones.

I think it's an interesting side of Toromi and I also somewhat feel bad about knowing it. Toromi, as it seems, worked hard to prevent this from leaking out. Japanese fans figured it quickly enough, and this was likely not brought up in the Moe Manifesto interview - or at the very least, removed from print in the editing process.
I'm somewhat torn between wanting to protect her privacy and wanting to sate my curiosity. Anyway, thank you for the heads up and short lesson.

Why did she feel bad about it, I wonder. She did eroge after all, and she also has that one song where half of it is her moaning. I expected her to not care.

Thank you so much, I would never find that out.
I looked up a profile of the jp wikipedia "桜井美代子" and there it says that lady got married in the year 2000?!?!?!?! Is that right or did I read it wrong?
If our toromi is married this really is surprising to me

Yes, they were called Cream, Waffle, Whip (as in whipped cream, lol) and Lucky Crèpe, etc. It is mostly harmless stuff, cute girls posing in their gym uniforms and things like that. You see the same kind of idol pictures in some shonen manga anthologies and other typical "boys" magazines. Stuff like that has been around since at least the 1960's.

Toromis past career is obvious to most Japanese fans, and I don't think anyone cares, especially not Toromi. It's just some good old "kurorekishi" to have a chuckle about if someone makes a clever joke about it from time to time.

IMO it's just cute. Toromi is awesome.

It is very plausible that she is married since she blogs a lot about housewife type stuff.

Allegedly she is supposed to be married to a mangaka, and my theory is that her husband is Watanabe Akio a.k.a. Poyoyon Rock of Popotan fame. Their art style is also very similar.

As someone who only knows Mii, how active has she been? Does she have like a bunch of albums or something? I don't normally listen to denpa, but I always thought Mii's song in her dumb minigame was cute. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IF_IpQ0pc8

She's a denpa queen. All denpa fans love and respect her. She has several albums and EPS, the last one was released in the last comiket. So she remains very active in the denpa scene and even in live perfomances, despite her advanced age (42).

An interesting curiosity is that toromi draws and cooperates with an unorthodox Buddhist temple. A type of "moe temple". https://soranews24.com/2014/09/26/tokyos-moe-temple-is-now-selling-buddhist-goddess-anime-figures/

But her relevance ends here. No more game dubbing, unknown drawings and a very specific type of music to a very specific audience. It can be said that toromi is very well known in the underground otaku scene.

here we have "quality denpa toromi" if you're curious:

Mid 2000's Toromi/Nomico/Mosaic.wav still give me serious feels in a way newer denpa/utaite stuff doesn't. I can understand maybe 50% of the lyrics but they make me feel like it's 2006 and I'm in a dead industrial town in Akita prefecture.

Hi Toromi. I figure this information is a lot more accessible on the Japanese web.

I'm surprised Toromi is 42. That's about 10 years higher than my highest guess at her age from looking at her.

即席!脳直ミュージックシステム from MOSAIC.WAV:s new MiracleluminalΣAKIBA-POP!! is one of their best tracks of all time, in my opinion. Aggressively pikopiko and bleepy but with a progressive arrangement and nice solos. I had no idea it was released as a Beatmania track a few years back, need to pay more attention.
