I'd love to discuss that, except that I don't know shit.
All my 'knowledge' from that era came from reading Rurouni Kenshin.

Monstrous, they didn't bomb Tokyo and the rest of Japan. If they did we wouldn't have the horrors of anime today.

The carpet bombing of Dresden was a bleaker page of the WWII history, if you ask me.
That place had been one of the hubs of European culture for centuries and most of the buildings and fine arts therein bore witness to it. The RAF bombing didn't yield any other fruit but to mar them beyond repair, and what's more the populace wasn't even warned beforehand unlike Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Now, talking about those two, all they were was just two expendable bomb targets which just happened to house a lot of military facilities. Other than blowing away thousands of ignorant peasants who probably didn't even have a clue of what fell from the sky on that fateful day, no much harm was dealt.

It would've been more hilarious if we didn't use the atomic bombs.

Operation downfall would turn the entire kanto plain into a bloodbath, while the red army swip in to capture Hokkaido.

Area 11 gets divided into two, and beautiful architectures will be born.

I thought the concentration camps would have been one of the bleaker moments of WWII.

Oh, Wait. this is 4chan. we are plagued with schroedingers concentration camps, where they either don't exist because its a jewish conspiracy, or they do exist because they are fucking hilarious.

If you read my post, you'd notice how the USAF actively carried off a warning campaign days before the campaign, namely by throwing leaflets over both of the cities, so basically the whole purpose would have been just to force the Emperor to swallow his pride, hadn't a good part of the villagers been so dumb not to heed the Americans' advice to flee from them before they would be nuked to the ground.
The bombing of Dresden costed both lives and art and had no real reason to be carried off in the first place.

If you read my post, you'd notice how the USAF actively carried off a warning campaign days before the bombing, more in detail by throwing leaflets over both of the cities. So basically the whole purpose would have been just to force the Emperor to swallow his pride, hadn't a good part of the villagers been so dumb not to heed the Americans' advice to flee from them before they would be nuked to the ground.
The bombing of Dresden not only costed both lives and art, but didn't have any real reason to be carried off in the first place especially at that time of the war.

HURR DURR. Don't put words you just imagined in my mouth, faggot. I was only saying that out of those two events, the bombing of Dresden was worse.

What word did he make up?

I was always told we didn't have to bomb them. They knew they had lost, but it was their culture for their emporor to be a god and it was also their culture for the losers to kill themselves for honor. Since their god couldn't have made a bad choice and since the whole country would have had to do it, they just needed time to figure out a way to lose without the mass death. Which took too long and as such they got bombed. The second bombing was just to break their spirits farther.

On the other side, Japan had taken a great many islands and could have always pretended to surrender without meaning it, and built up an army there. It was the best way to end to war now and to make it so no question was asked about who had won it.

I remember reading a short story going somehow along these lines a while ago. It was by Turtledove, so you'd figure it has more to alternate history than just Japan being divided. Namely, Stalin emigrates to USA at a young age and somehow manages to become President and the reason he doesn't bring the atomic bomb to bear is because Einstein holds out on him about his scientific breakthrough, to which he retaliates by purging all Jew scientists.
Overall, t'was a good read.

>> No.1990945

Monstrous. Shit wasn't funny since THEY GAVE THE FUCK UP.
