They aren't hyphens, they're bousen, and they don't work like hyphens at all. They're used to stretch out sounds. Japanese authors will pretty much always use them, but they're rarely as autistically prevalent as they are in parts of Fate/stay night.

Because she exists on the boundary between Shiki's seemingly normal life (as it appears to his other schoolfriends) and his adventures in dark happenings. She gets caught up in it but never quite breaks through to have her own route. She's not a flashy heroine or someone who you can delve into their past because you never get to know her that well. When was the last time you were happy with the state of Type-Moon?
For me it was 2012.
Mahoyo had just been released and its sequels / Tsuki remake still seemed possible.
I remember how excited I was about Koyama's art and Mahoyo's production values in general.
It seemed like we were on he threshold of a new golden age of Type-Moon VNs.
Beast's Lair still generated decent fanfics, and the best posters (lorefags, translators) hadn't left or become jaded yet.
These days the franchise is Kancolle tier.

Probably 2013 but I still enjoy a few things like Strange Fake and whatnot. I wouldn't really say I'm angry about the state of TM, though. Maybe a few years ago I would have been, but these days I've pretty much got over it and have moved on. I celebrate what I still enjoy, of course, but I don't so much live in a constant state of "Where's Tsukihime Remake ... Where's Mahoyo 2 ... Not super happy about TM as a whole, but I was at least optimistic when HF movie adaptation by ufotable was announced. Felt like they wanted to treat Nasu's good stuff with respect, and that Tsukihime might get a chance some day.

Kara no Kyoukai 7 really goes above and beyond in adding lots of original scenes that weren't in the novel. However, 1 piece of info you kinda miss out on is more background for Shiki's grandfather.
This guy is basically proto-Makihisa Tohno.
Unlike Shiki's dad and older brother, he did inherit the Ryougi's double personality trait, but he had no control or a good relationship with his murderous, insane 2nd personality. He killed lots of people, became a danger to his own family, and spent 20 years locked in an asylum.

Who? The vast minority? Friendly reminder that Nasu himself knows that less than 20% of the current TM fanbase have even read the visual novels, and that was claimed years ago -- it's likely even worse now, with FGO's increased popularity. And as far as Tsukihime goes I'd wager it's around 5-10% at best. There's really no reason for modern TM to even care about other content.

There's a lot more to it than that. The line art isn't as clean and defined and despite still broken fingers and proportions, the hands look like hands and not like they're made out of LEGOs. More importantly, there aren't any rampant ahoge and Sakura's face, despite being significantly off model, looks extremely unique and expresses emotions more complex than either 'happy' or 'pouty'.

Nero blocking Gallantine was pretty dumb, but Leo and Gawain are still the fucking coolest.
I've always liked the idea of a hardened Leo who is closer to a perfect king, so I'm glad Nasu finally got to do that.
