News:
-The next maintenance will take place on June 13th.
-Shiranui has received a Kai Ni. She requires level 72 and a blueprint and gains bonus stats from 12.7cm Type C and D, and 61cm Quad O2 torpedo mounts just like Kagerou Kai Ni.
-The April ranking rewards have been distributed. The new equipments are the 41cm Triple Gun Mount Kai Ni and the 35.6cm Triple Gun Mount Kai (Dazzle Camouflage). The latter will be obtainable through a quest at a later date. The 41cm Kai Ni gives bonus stats to Ise-class and Fusou-class and the Dazzle gun gives bonus stats to Kongou-class but Haruna and Kongou gain the highest amount.
-Ise will receive a Kai Ni in the next maintenance. Kuroshio will receive a Kai Ni before the summer. Yuugumo-class will also get more Kai Ni this year.
-New Etorofu-class Fukae has been added. She can be obtained as a drop from the same maps that other escorts drop from.
-The spring mini-event is underway. Nine new quests related to the mini event have been added. It will run until the middle of June.
-The new Type 3 Depth Charge (Concentrated Deployment) and Prototype 15cm Nonuple ASW Rocket Launcher can be obtained from quests added this update and will obtainable through other means in the future.
-The March ranking rewards have been distributed. The new equipment are Late Model versions of Triple and Quadruple Oxygen torpedo mounts. These torpedo mounts give bonus +2 torp and +1 evasion to their respective Kai Ni classes. They can be obtained in the mini event.
-Summer event will be the next proper event.
-Fifth Anniversary quests are still available. A new Fifth Anniversary scroll is available from one of these quests and Samuel B. Roberts can be obtained from the final one. They will be available for as long as the Spring mini-event.
-The Late Model Triple and Quad O2 torpedo mounts can now be improved through Akashi's arsenal.
-New Zuiun mode seasonal CG has been added for Commandant Teste.
-The maximum amount of ship slots possible has been increased to 370.
-There are already plans for the 7th year of KanColle.
-Numerous Fletchers will be implemented this year. Matsu-class from the Type D Destroyers are being prepared for the 7th year of KanColle.
-There are plans for expanding ASW with equipment from the land of black tea like ASDIC and hedgehogs.
-KanColle's migration to HTML5 and the implementation of Friend Fleets in Phase 2 will begin a three-step process during the period between the Spring mini-event and the Summer. Higher screen resolution will be possible. Full implementation of Phase 2 may take a year.

Because the devs weren't giving out any information about the length of the event. Mini-events typically last 2-3 weeks and early reports about droprates were pretty concerning.

I was definitely panicking since my job leaves me so tired that I didn't think 3 full days of farming every day would be enough so I was only planning to get the Quad torps. But then they added bonus drops during weekends and finally said it would last until mid June so I was able to finish all quests a week in advance through those bonus drops. Also, they shouldn't be celebrating. Enterprise came right back after some emergency repairs while the IJN carriers, other than the drunkard I think, were out of action months longer due to pilot losses, so this battle was actually a strategic loss.
Jun'yo had no chance against E+Henderson-chan so the IJN had to completely give up the air around Guadalcanal afterward which led to them losing Hiei and a bunch of transports plus the men and supplies on them in the naval battle of Guadalcanal which followed. Which led to them losing Guadalcanal itself.

Considering how the main appeal is getting attached to the girls, that would require replacing sinking with something very different. The tension of risking permanent death is a big part of what makes it interesting, and reducing death penalties too much would remove that.

There's also the issue of equipment being lost. If your irreplaceable event items were to disappear, that would make the whole equipment system feel like a waste of time. If you got to keep the equipment, sinkings wouldn't be as serious.

The only good alternative I can see is making a spinoff or minigame mode separate from the main game. It would be neat to have a no-protection campaign mode where sunken ships are just blocked from that campaign run and still remain outside it.
