Hey, /jp/, can you recommend a light novel that's (in your opinion) been translated really well? What I personally think is ideal is an emphasis on readability. In other words, accurate, but not so literal a translation that it comes off as awkward.

I was thinking of trying my hand at it, but I'd like to have a look at some good examples before I do. Thanks.

Pic possibly related? I dunno, I've never read it.

Fate/Zero.

Bask in the pure, untainted manliness that is Iskander. The guy walks into a library and casually takes out some books with the promise that he'll soon own the building(and the land it is on)they were in at any rate.

Or not. I couldn't stand it, because I watched the anime first, and the protagonist in the manga is just a douchebag instead of being lovably demented.

The translation of the NHK novel is so-so, but it doesn't detract that much from the experience. Overall, the novel is really well done, and a couple scenes(namely, the "fight" between Yamazaki and Satou) make it worth the read.

I remember hearing about one light novel here a while back that seemed interesting but I cannot for the life of me remember its name or anything about it.

I think it had been translated, though. And pretty well, at that.

Most of the fan translation goes on at baka-tsuki.net.

As for the OP, I would say that the Haruhi novels are very well translated. What's been translated of the Toradora novels is also good quality.

What novels were you interested in translating?
