I'm sitting down with my writer for the visual novel Kanetsuki no Monogatari right now. We are thinking how many lines of text you would need to fill a 4~5 hour long game. Anyone have a good estimate as to how much dialog you'd need to fill that time frame? (Given people spending time saving, reading over, looking at the pictures, loading it up)

No serious responses?

Theoretically, lets say that reading one full line takes 7 seconds, and you'll probably react to certain images and plot devices, and be like "Oh shit!" Also, the average anon will complete a 4-5 hour game in 2 or 3 load ups, and will save approximately 20 times (this could vary greatly depending on how many choices you have). Subtracting a % of lines for common situations like "I'm going to fap to this." or "I'm going to spend 5 minutes straight crying, this is so fucking sad." the number of lines would probably be around YOU JUST LOST THE GAME.

Not even reads that fast/slow. Depending on how much words you got left, im not sure how much you need. Assuming it's 1 line from a typical VN, i'd say it should be something like this: LostthegamePS3SUXFROSTEDBUTTS

Wow, going by this, a 5 hour VN would be around 2250 lines, that doesn't sound like much at all. I quick guess would put me in the area of around 6000. Regardless, try not to write following a time frame, just write until you reached something you feel comfortable with.

Don't write stuff if you're gonna use the word "fill" to describe that activity.

You're response was so serious... that's the 1st time I never saw it coming

Having never played a VN before, I gotta ask... is the general format so written in stone that it would follow a certain format? You space things out/you bunch them together... you write the lines that need to be written as well as the smaller ones that serve as general development... It seems like this is all very dependent on exactly what you're trying to do
