The only thing I dislike about Japanese is that it lacks certain sounds for no reason. I don't mind SHI or TSU being a thing, but why the hell don't they have SI, TU, TI and certain W- sounds. It's bullshit. Even with Katakana, you have to add small vowels to the characters to make some foreign sounds. What the fuck? Also, something as overused as the CHA or KYO sounds shouldn't require a combination of two characters.

Don't even get me started on the "small tsu". That thing is bullcrap because it's often way too big, especially in handwritten text, and it's hard to differentiate it from the actual "tsu" sound at first glance. It should be a lot smaller.

While Goldsmith was busy saving Nazitrice from the Onigafuchi swamp aliens, an imposter called Wakinzo somehow got into his mansion and hid the six master keys all over the island. He also used a spell to possess all the servants and make them serve him. Goldsmith must collect all six master keys to remove the magic seal on the front door and defeat Wakinzo.

Sounds good and Wakinzo is an amazing character in his own series, but this novel plays like shit and the mysteries are WAY too easy. Goldsmith ends up with 99 gold ingots halfway through the story. The only good thing about this novel is the part where Goldsmith enters a giant golden robot version of himself he created while drunk. That shit was insane.

TL;DR: The first one was crazier, harder and much more fun. The music was a lot better too.

The openings and endings are pretty great. There is a kind of interesting OVA that takes place when Mion was a kid. The Tsumihoroboshi flashforward with Akasaka has an entire episode dedicated to it in the second season, and adult Rena shows up. The very first arc of the second season is an anime exclusive arc focused on Satoko. The later seasons are hilarious and you get to see Rena's naked ass.

Other than that, it's pretty shit. Especially if you never read the novels, because it basically spoils the whole thing but lacks most of the worldbuilding and character development that makes the story special. If you watch it after the novels, it won't be so bad because you already know the details. Still, some iconic scenes were adapted like shit or were completely removed. The first six arcs were adapted in 26 episodes, so they removed a TON of stuff and changed the tone of the story to pure horror almost a 100% of the time.

Why did Umineko get so much hate for not explaining everything directly? All the clues were there and everything made sense on a reread.

Evangelion did the same thing but 1000 times worse, since it was nearly impossible to understand without reading hours upon hours of explanations online and carefully examining every fucking scene afterwards. And yet, Evangelion didn't get nearly the same amount of hate. Some people dislike it, but most people consider it a masterpiece (myself included).

I believe that Ryukishi got the whole "let the audience find the truth themselves" idea from Evangelion, but he decided to make it much more fair. It's actually very possible to solve the whole thing and understand the character's motivations if you think about it and reread key parts, like Narnith, Newt and Jokrono's LPs have proven.

Maybe Ange and Eva were a coincidence, but it's obvious that Ryukishi chose Lion's name to reference EvaAngeLion. And the CONGRATULATIONS-tier ending to Umineko was another reference to it.

I think both stories did it well in different ways. Umineko is delightful when you reread it and realize that the answers were in plain sight the whole time. It's like the text has been magically rewritten to acknowledge the fact that you are aware of the truth, even though it's the same text you read the first time.

Evangelion, on the other hand, is fucking impossible to figure out no matter how many times you watch it. But once you understand everything thanks to outside sources, it's really fucking cool. Everyone is talking about convoluted and confusing shit that doesn't concern the protagonist and that the audience has no way to understand. But if you DO know what all that crap is about, it's like you are really in that universe, randomly getting information that isn't meant to be solvable. It feels less like a story directed at you as an spectator and more like the real experience of watching a bunch of scenes happening in a realistic and complex world you have been transported to.

Thinking is hard and it's easier to blame the author than to accept that I couldn't figure out the mysteries by myself as well as the fact that I could have put more effort into trying instead of wishing for clear answers that I never end up receiving.

It can't be helped, you can't please everyone and not everyone will understand and figure out a mystery. It might also depend on whether you see Umineko more like a game where the characters are just pieces on a gameboard or more like a story where the characters are far more than that and have to be understood by the reader.
One of the main messages of Umineko is a simple yet complex perspective, seeing with and without love. We can try, but we're still only human in the end.

It's not like that, people got mad because, unlike Higurashi, there wasn't a single connection between the first episodes and the last ones. I think the only thing the question arc were useful for the answers, besides the character introduction and development, was some red truths here and there.
With Higurashi, each question game has its answers. It may not be the exact situation Keiichi was Hinamizawa'd on episode 1 and Rena was Hinamizawa'd on episode 6 but you can relate both games (episode 2 and episode 5 are a perfect example for this).
Now tell me just one thing that you can explicitly relate between episode 1 and episode 8. You can't, right?
That's why people got mad with Ryukishi and called him a hack or whatever. It's not like they didn't found the answer for Rokkenjima massacre Rosatrice faggots aren't even goat furniture, don't even mention them, but it would be good to relate both question arc and answer arcs a bit more and not make them read the question arcs again, but they are so good that I don't even mind it.

There are plenty of clues scattered during the first arc pointing at the culprit. Focus on relationships between Joji and Shannon, Jessica and Kanon at the beginning of Ep.2 should be big enough signal already. Stuff like Battler promising that he will return was noticed. If you are perceptive enough you will notice that Shannon and Kanon are seen together only during magic bullshit parts and when servants are by themselves. With that and many other clues you can identify whodunnit, and howdunnit becomes more clear. For the first arc information to be useful you should just git gud.

In EP1, Krauss takes Natsuhi to a secret room in the mansion and shows her a bar of gold, revealing that the legend is real and the ten tons of gold must exist somewhere on the island. He supposedly met with a company president who had ties with Kinzo or something like that, and the old guy confirmed that Kinzo's legend of the gold was real. To prove it, he gave Krauss the gold ingot that Kinzo used as collateral when they made a business deal. I'm not sure if I remember correctly, maybe it was the old guy's son who told all that stuff to Krauss because his father had already died.

My question is: why the fuck would that guy just give Krauss a valuable gold ingot? Even if Kinzo literally gave it to him for free to gain his trust and increase his reputation as an investor, why would the guy just give it away like that? And if Krauss bought it, why the hell did the do it? He NEEDS A LOT OF MONEY RIGHT NOW and can't waste any of it in some useless gold ingot. He only wanted to make sure that the legend was real so he could confidently start searching for it.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Umineko. The mistery is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the riddles will go over a typical reader´s head. There's also Beatrice´s nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into her characterisation - her personal philosophy draws heavily from Jungian philosophy for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of the fantasy scenes, to realize that they're not just weeb shit- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who hate Umineko truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the hidden depth in Battler´s existencial catchphrase "It´s useless. It´s all useless!," which itself is a cryptic reference to Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Ryushiki´s genius unfolds itself on their computers screens. Finished Higurashi yesterday, that was great, I enjoyed it a lot. The feels and thrills were fantastic and it's pleasant to see how sharp and humane Ryukishi was from the beginning of his writing career and deep-rooted Umineko connections bring some new food for thought to the table.

But is it me, or Matsuribayashi-hen fable was rather off? Minagoroshi was that beautiful collapse of preconceptions and preconceived notions that entagled both characters and Hinamizawa as well as fantastic reveal of the culprit. Honestly, if the series ended here I wouldn't be mad, phenomenal culmination to themes and ideas of Higurashi has been reached. Matsuribayashi on the other had that long-winded buildup for what in fact turned out to be the ScoobyDoo fuss with overdramatic action scenes. It was fun as fuck but besides some background exposition and great character scenes I can't see the substance that story brings. Anyone feels the same?

Knownomore deleted his videos in March 2017. The Episode 8 manga ended in June 2015 and the English translation was finished in September 2015. That's a pretty big time gap. Higurashi only has a happy ending for Rika. Everyone else gets fucked in the previous worlds, including the countless Rikas that end up fusing into a witch and having lesbian sex with a psychotic cake.

It depends on how you look at it, though. My interpretation is that the endless fragments that represent infinite possibilities only come into existence as REAL worlds when a god-like being such as Hanyuu uses her powers. When it's just a witch looking for alternate realities and fucking shit up to entertain herself, those worlds don't "really" exist.

So you could say that Rika and Hanyuu have made those possibilities real by traveling between worlds and experiencing them as piece Rika. They are responsible for creating those worlds where everyone met terrible fates. And this could explain why normal people in Higurashi can subconsciously remember things and avoid previous mistakes. Their consciousness is the same in every world Hanyuu creates, even if people like Rena sometimes live for decades after Rika is dead. The concept of time doesn't matter in the meta realm and doesn't affect the connection between parallel worlds. So, you could say that the Akasaka that asked for a second chance to save Rika did eventually become the Matsuribayashi Akasaka after dying of old age and losing his consciousness in that world forever.

I don't the "why" part of Umineko. I don't understand why Shannon would want to kill everyone in the first place. Sure, I understand that she is the killer and more-or-less understand how she went about murdering everyone, but I feel like she doesn't have a clear motive behind her murders. In a way, I feel as though someone like Krauss, Rosa or George would make more sense to be killers since they could be driven by feelings such as greed or hatred to commit murders. I can't see love as a motive for murder unless the murderer is trying to prevent NTR or something.

Sayo wanted to kill herself and take down any person she perceived as "guilty" or who would be devastated by her death. That's what the bomb is for. Battler showing up made her reconsider her plan, so she decided to give everyone a chance by carrying out the epitaph and sending that letter. If someone solves it or figures out the tricks, they will be able to stop the crime. She made it solvable for Battler.

Battler is to blame for indirectly creating that situation. If he hadn't said that stuff to Sayo, she would've quit her job sooner and by the time she learned that she's actually a creepy underdeveloped eunuch her situation would be completely different. She'd probably have a stable relationship with someone she could really trust with her issues. Instead, she was in a relationship with this fucking beta nerd who lived only for her sake and would probably go nuts if something went wrong with his waifu. Her only friend, Maria, was going to grow up with psychological issues and a terrible mother. And on top of that, she had access to guns and giant bomb that could wipe everything out and end her misery. It's easier to gather up the resolve needed to kill yourself if you've already dirtied your hands and the consequences of your actions will be more painful than pulling a trigger.

You should also consider that Sayo was raised in a christian orphanage where they fed her ideas about Heaven and shit, much like Hifumi did to Takano with the story of how Jesus lives forever because he left a mark in the world. The magic persona she uses to play with Maria is an intentional fabrication, but it's obvious that she really believes in some kind of spiritual afterlife.

Saikoroshi spoiler: Rika's mother gets killed by her 11 year old daughter for no apparent reason, as far as the human world is concerned. Getting killed because your daughter literally got possessed by herself from another world is pretty pathetic. They discussed things that I never even thought of, like the idea of Will being fantasy Battler and Lion being fantasy Sayo.

Seriously, everything makes so much more sense now. Why Will has a strand of red hair and cares about "the heart" like young Battler did, why Lion is so androgynous looking and has golden hair, why he refuses to state his gender. Will is the perfect, competent version of Battler. And Lion is a perfect version of Yasu, that's the reason why his gender is so ambiguous. Yasu's idea of a perfect life is one where she doesn't have to worry about gender crap and can truly love someone without that getting in the way. Thanks to this interpretation, I have no problems with fanart or doujins treating Lion as a girl.

They also talk about the ending and how Lion's world is pure fantasy because he never existed in the real world. While we didn't see just how many envelopes there were, as George only received one (that could be exclusively reserved for the cousins, much like Ryukishi suggested), I find difficult for him to do something like that and not apologize later with all the stuff.

And it's very difficult that Battler would completely forget about Shannon in 6 years.

The Kyrie solution might as well be a very good one I didn't even think about it until I've read Ryukishi's own comment on it.

George isn't perfect, but he's not that bad. He has positive qualities. Same applies to Battler. He's a great guy, but he's also imperfect.

But what some people are doing is essentially taking one of Battler's biggest flaws and mistakes within Umineko, the flaw that truly makes Battler imperfect and flawed, removing it, and pushing it onto a character they already dislike because why not?

That pretty much turns Battler into a victim of this whole story where the evil George stood in the path of his relationship with Sayo and caused Sayo to lose hope.

And that's simply not the story Umineko told us. Umineko told us explicitly:

I think Yukari is a completely different actor from the one that played Rika/Bern. She looks similar, but not identical.

It's an interesting theory, though. ESPECIALLY after reading Hinamizawa Bus Stop. It was written as a play but it got rejected, so Ryukishi rewrote the hell out of it and made the Higurashi we know and love. The play was later released as an extra chapter of Hou and it reads like a literal play script. It's very interesting.

Is there any way to access these worlds if you are a voyager witch? Are they the "book fragments" in Featherine's library? Is Card Captor Sakura one of these worlds?

If there is an endless number of real worlds and they exist below the meta (since the fragments in the meta represent endless possible realities), does that mean that MAGIC exists in some of them? There was clearly magic bullshit happening in Higurashi, so it must be real.

My intepretation of the gameboards is that they exist as fragments in the meta world (because they are possible results of the roulette Yasu created) but they ALSO exist as fiction in the real world. At least the ones we are shown. Meaning that even if the message bottles and the forgeries were fiction in Ange's world, they really happened in the meta. The Ushiromiyas really experienced that stuff in different parallel worlds. The magic side of the gameboard, though, is probably fiction and didn't happen in the meta version of the games.

It's very interesting how the focus of Higurashi is a single consciousness traveling between worlds to find a happy ending, while the focus of Umineko is a particular real world (out of the billions that exist) where Eva survived and Ange's life is shit. It's the complete opposite.

And they are both mysterious people with shady throwaway backstories that come out of nowhere and heavily influence the story. Nothing would've happened if Nomura didn't help Takano. And the game between Battler and Beatrice wouldn't be possible if Ikuko hadn't found Tohya, because they are behind most of the forgeries.

Hell, Nomura's name isn't even the real one. She uses like five names to keep her identity a secret. It's obvious that Featherine created this character to represent herself as the Game Master, gave her a mysterious background so she wouldn't have to fill in the details of what her family or friends are like and used her to turn Takano into a villain.

Hanyuu and Rika ended up creating a "goal" that fixed the logic error and let the game end, but Nomura was the one pulling the strings the whole time. She started the game. Lambdadelta was just passing by.

Hell, you could even say that Lambda represents Takano's strong will. When Takano swore to "God" that she'd never give up, Lambda was created along with her entire backstory (whatever that is) and memories. Just like Yasu created a thousand year old Beatrice. Except Lambda was actually real rather than a delusion thought up by a human because there is magic in Higurashi. Takano didn't actually "create" her.

He announced the repairing of some problems in the japanese version of MangaGamer's release of Question and Answer arcs, as well as the fixes of the typos people were pointing out.

Based MangaGamer took a bit of time, but finally fixed Umineko both halves all in the same day.
