I'm playing CS games with a US KOC.
I can clear some 7's but I suck with the turntable and it is holding me back.

I wanna play IIDX but before I get a Dao controller, I noticed that at the top there's two less effect buttons at the top than the Konami controller. Am I missing something without these buttons and if I am is there a key combo or something to do their functions?

at that level its normal to suck with tt. just keep playing naturally and itll work itself out. since youre playing on cs, you have access to allscratch mode, and should use it on songs that are very easy for you normally, and focus on hitting 1 and 3 with you left thumb and 2 with your left index or left middle. once you get decent at this you can tackle actual scratch songs. the other technique to work on is focusing your eyes on lanes 1-7 when the majority of notes are there and just hitting scratch subconsciously when it comes with your wrist without loosing focus on what's happening in the other lanes. doing this will be invaluable for things like http://textage.cc/score/20/cookie_b.html?1AB04~25-33 later on.

the Konami controller has option3 and option4 buttons created specifically for accessing the "mission" menus and other menus in Infinitas. you literally don't need them. even if you get a Dao it has different modes to emulate these buttons if you end up playing infinitas, and if you play data or lr2 they don't even matter. that said the Konami controller has a nice punchy metallic sound to it thanks to the metal case whereas the dao is made out of precut pieces of wood glued together which leaves alot to be desired acoustically in my opinion.

Honestly this isn't worth it, AC style button assemblies are taller than the controller so there's a huge amount of work that goes into dremelling out the bottom of the controller to stuff the keys in there, and then you're still stuck with KOC scratch distance unless you do more modding. For that amount of time, effort, and money, it's better to make the leap to an actual AC style controller.

HD cabinets happen to have new hardware.

Fantasia was the last version that did not require e-Amusement to run, so that's why you don't see any versions after that in the USA.

If you focus on judge line or judge text you probably want something like 250-400. Although it depends on the distance from the monitor (as you get further away you would probably need less of a cover) and I haven't played on a cab, so take it with a grain of salt.

My work week and commute total for 65 hours per week at minimum. My IIDX playtime is when I wake up. I came to discover that playing after work resulted in worse scores. The main difference between my playing at home and at the arcade is that I sit at home and the screen is at eye level, where playing at the cabinet with 0 lift will make your head pointed downward at the judgment line. Mei, NGO, or DEGRS. NGO's ending isn't that much worse than the Expert, Mei has a lot of easy parts to recover gauge, and DEGRS is fast enough that mashing can result in tons of goods. You can pass these even if you're stamina is too mediocre for charts like Come to Life, Astrogazer, and Triple Journey. Trigger and Valkyrie Dimension can also be considered as being on the easier side as far as 18s go.

As long as there aren't any speed changes or stops, they should be able to handle pretty much anything. Being able to slow down your speed mods, rely on the colors for rhythms, look ahead, and plan out your turns seems to be a dying skillset these days.

This year's DDR format was really dumb though. They let a bunch of tier 2 Japanese players through, yet somehow the definitive best Jap player didn't make it through. Nostalgia got away with it because scoring and comboing in that game isn't terribly difficult and Carezza is kind of a cult classic so it wasn't absurdly obscure. Fixed scroll rate a la GitaDora helps a bit as well.

IIDX and pop'n have had KAC songs and I think only Iroha had a BPM change and that was at the beginning. I don't think SDVX had any songs debut at KAC with tempo changes either. Now that I think about it, DDR is the only Bemani game to never have a song revealed and then played at KAC.

You can't get the same feedback from the touchscreen that you get from buttons, nor can you have large curved "touchscreens" that work well with pop'n. can you buy some sort of cushioning material to the buttons that you could cut up and place inside? Maybe 1mm eva foam, or maybe even thinner if you can find it? It's at least very cheap and easy to cut, so you won't lose much if it doesn't work.
As for the opening, check for information on how to access the buttons, then for opening the buttons:
1)remove lamp holder by twisting
2) push the small feet of the moving button part together and press the spring towards the top of the button, the moving part of the button should pop out from the top of the button
3) insert cushion
4)insert moving button part with spring from the top
5) reattach lamp holder

The button is just a piece of plastic that pushes down a switch. If you put a piece of rubber where it bottoms out, it should become quieter.

Look at O-rings for mechanical keyboard caps. They won't work on arcade buttons, but the principle should.
