That isn't true, though.
v0 can produce audible clipping issues in rapid frequency shifts, which happens a lot with electronic music.
v0 technically has a plus to it in that it can hit ranges above 320kbps but it's meaningless if 320kbps sounds identical with no potential downsides other than being a slightly larger file size.

That and people can actually somehow fuck up encoding v0 while 320 is press button receive bacon tier.

for practical purposes, there's no point in getting FLAC. It takes up around 50x as much space in exchange for a little less distortion. Unless you have good hearing, headphones that cost as much as your computer, and a several-hundred dollar sound card, there's no point in even bothering.

However, if you do have those things or just want to store everything in pristine condition for the sake of archival, then yes, it's worth it to find the FLAC. But you should really just buy the CDs if you have that much disposable income or dedication.

You really don't need to go that far, there are pretty good options in the 100-200 range comparable with higher end ones and often if you know how to shop around you can sometimes pick higher end ones on discount for stupidly low prices.

You're probably going to spend about the same or less a lot of the time on the DAC/Sound Card really and even then there has been a movement towards more affordable ones the last few years.

>It takes up around 50x as much space in exchange for a little less distortion
A laughable excuse at best, hard drives are so goddamn cheap it's a non-issue as long you're not doing something silly like trying to put everything on SSD's.

>But you should really just buy the CDs if you have that much disposable income or dedication.
This on the other hand is legit most of the more popular circles are now easily purchasable online with some difficulty and extra fees.

However I recognize as well archival has a place for when some groups suddenly die off and their music becomes unavailable or lesser known groups who don't put out a lot of stock available. This happens to be super common too in the Doujin scene no matter the group.

Yes, we all know that, what we don't understand is how any retard can think it is a proper replacement for a forum.
Also many people (myself included) think discord is shit because it attracts attention whoring cunts, ones like name and tripfags. They're just there for their e-peen and for everyone to give them attention. And because of this, people are divided into two groups, a group that sticks with discord and one that avoids it completely. Thus effectively splitting the community in half. This has happened time and time again with generals on /vg/, and the worst part of it all is that they always resort to the same old argument to defend their shitty discord circlejerk, being "just don't use it then ecks dee". They are too retarded to understand that people were divided and neither do they care because they get unlimited free attention in their safe space.
Oh, and don't get me started on what will happen in about a month or two, it will either die or change completely. People will get sick of the same shit cause they're in there 24/7, and eventually it will turn into something it's not. Once again, go to /vg/ for fun examples, where discords dedicated to one game turned into a "group of people" who play and talk about random games with each other.

Is English not your first language? His post makes sense. Let's deconstruct it together.

"why the fuck do you people want him to rush something? Are you all 12?". That 'something' he mentioned is referring to the album which the anon said Shibayan is working on. So the first question he asked is 'why do you want him to rush the new album [which he's supposedly working on]?'. Now 'rush' means to do something quickly and usually hastily. So what he's asking you is "do you really want him to create an album quickly which will result in lower quality pieces of music?". "Are you all 12" is implying that the anons who are unable to wait are children because children tend to be impatient and demanding.

If you still don't understand then hey, you know? It's okay. Don't even worry about it.

>Would there be any real use if I spun up a clone?

Maybe if you could get it to work as something completely anonymous so the focus is entirely upon the music itself it would be worth it.
Spinning it off to a futaba clone wouldn't actually be the worst idea, so long as it has regulated rules and each event gets its own board, running something like each album gets its own thread for individual discussion/link replacements and one large stuck thread for general discussion of the event and another for crossfades.
It would just take having actual moderation available to gut spam threads and making sure the board doesn't prune threads.
But at that point you're basically competing with /jp/ and there isn't really much left here to really compete with.

>do you really want him to create an album quickly which will result in lower quality pieces of music?
Yes, and that's not a question that should be rightfully posed given the context surrounding the hypothetical album in question. I was trying to be overly subtle because of his obvious virtue signaling, but the fact that two people missed it is kind of sad. If that triggers your buzzword autism, let me describe it in another way. He used a single post to call out multiple, non-existent entities as a whole and criticize them, drawing a conclusion that is not a simplification of the previous post, but one that requires assumptions of things that are not explicitly stated by the post, such as wanting Shibayan to rush something.
Let's deconstruct it together. It's a lot to go through, so let's start here: the type of question he asked is rhetorical. It's not meant to be answered plainly since the meaning it's supposed to present is "People are impatient 12 year-olds."
Then, the both of you somehow figure out that there was a part of the question that could be misunderstood. The entire post functions as a whole, where the second question is a conclusion that is drawn from the first. The concept that a "part" of it could be misunderstood is silly, since not only is the sentence incredibly simple, the implication is too.
The problem extends from how >>18158591 puts out an scolding derision that is formed, apparently, without context. Although it may have a point, the anon may not have realized the question could not be properly applied to the situation in the first place, because, as one might believe, he has no idea what the fuck he's talking about. This conjecture is presented by the post >>18158650, which is asking for a refutation as to whether or not the context could invalidate the grounds in which he posts his statement. The following exchange shows a complete disregard for said "context" from the scolding anon, thereby affirming the conjecture by the lack of said refutation.
The conversation is then ended by the refusal to explain not only the context behind the situation, but also the refusal to indulge >>18158688 in the act of not only answering not 1, but 2 of what should be rhetorical questions.

With Discord, you need an account to view the links, which might actually increase the visible "leechers", but Discord also lends itself infinitely more to an active community, since it's actually an insanely popular pre-existing platform made for communication and communities.

The DS discord has had more discussion on it in 1 day than the forum has had in years.

An active community means more people will be interested in doujin, which means more people buying doujin, which means more uploads.

That's what active communities do, if you look at something like the Doujin Music discord (used to be the dojin.co discord before they split), almost everyone that's active there buys music now, really most people would probably buy music with a little encouragement and people there to explain to them how to use a shipping proxy, sign up for Japanese accounts, etc.
It's HARD to get into buying doujin stuff on your own, if you have a knowledgeable community there to help you, a lot more people are willing to give it a try.

The majority of posts were being mirrored from 9T and VK. There was a few uploaders that primarily posted to DS still, but even that has shrunk just in the last year.
If you compare it to scale just a few years ago, where Comiket threads were getting hundreds or thousands of posts each, you might as well say nobody is posting anything.

A mass influx of thin-skinned babies who feel the need to make everything conform to their narrow world view and have absolutely no idea how basic technology works, let alone the convenience that comes with a decentralized client-agnostic chat platform. Discord replaced Skype, which itself was another piece of shit. They just happened to steamroll every other chat platform in existence and it sickens me that people actually fell for their brand of shit. If everyone took five minutes out of their internet and technology-infested lives to learn about server hosting they can set up an IRC bouncer that lets them stay online 24/7 with the client of their choice customized to their specific needs.

It's unavoidable no matter what, anon.
In fact, it's better to do the opposite of what you think you want to do and to post them in as many openly public places as you can.

"Private communities" just have a huge red target on them because they try and hide behind "muh exclusivity." The more "exclusive" a particular rip is, the more someone who wants to ad wall shit can make off of it.
Meanwhile if you put it up freely in the most public places so it can be shared completely openly, there's a much better chance that anyone who tries to ad wall it will make much less from it.

The entire reason we're in the position where sites even have the opportunity to try and make money off of aggregating download links is because of all the private rip shit to begin with.

>> No.18164617

>>18164569

While I like the idea of uploading publicly for long-term archiving, I disagree with "The more exclusive it is the more they want to ad wall it". VK and 9tensu don't care how exclusive it is as long as it is doujin music and 9tensu will ad wall it every single time. It doesn't decrease the chances especially if it is a popular album or circle.

>> No.18164651

>>18164617
You're missing the point. They're going to ad wall everything regardless, yes.
But if something is marked as "exclusive" and doesn't just pop up on a public channel, or only pops up on a public channel at a delayed rate, anyone who ad walls it will generate more traffic for having it - because to anyone not in the "exclusive community" it's unavailable anywhere else.

But the more openly something is posted, the less likely someone will have to go and use one of the shit-tier aggregates that ad-walls.

Basically, by trying to make something exclusive you're helping them because they're going to have access to the private/exclusive rips regardless and those who don't will have to use their dodgy links.

No, each post has in the title what Comiket it's from. Comiket is just the event channel it's in. They have a template and everything. It's much easier to find things the way they have it in discord rather than the search they had on the site.

Because this is extremely organized, right?
I'd assume that most people at the moment are interested in Comiket downloads from the latest event, not Comiket downloads in general. If you group all Comiket releases like that, there's absolutely no difference between Comiket release, Reitaisai release, M3 releases and whatnot because they're all music in the end so separating them it completely pointless.
If creating a new channel for each event is not something you want to do because of the eventual clutter, then make a #latest-event channel, specify which event it focuses on in the topic, and only allow links for releases from them in there.
>#latest-event
>Currently accepting: Comiket 93
>#comiket
>miscellaneous Comiket releases from past events
And there you go. Not as organized as the forum used to be, but still plenty better than the current mess.

Not everyone searches his specific pet albums, especially since most of it takes 5000 years to get ripped anyway. Some people just like to browse and check out whatever new upload catches their eye, the forum threads were perfect for this.

Now we have heartless text dumps that don't even display album art, and rarely even the genre. And worse yet, intermixed with random old uploads noone gives a fuck about.

How do you expect anyone to discover new artists if all they can do is use the fucking discord search for what they already know.

The biggest issue is that the posts would only be seen on that particular site and not other archives, and we would have to all hope nothing happens to it in the future. That's putting a lot of hope on a party which is completely unrelated.

Hearing the difference now isn’t the reason to encode to FLAC. FLAC uses near lossless compression, while MP3 is ‘lossy’. What this means is that for each year the MP3 sits on your hard drive, it will lose roughly 12kbps, assuming you have SATA – it’s about 12kbps on IDE, but only 7kbps on SCSI, due to rotational velocidensity. You don’t want to know how much worse it is on CD-ROM or other optical media.

I started collecting MP3s in about 2006, and if I try to play any of the tracks I downloaded back then, even the stuff I grabbed at 320kbps just sound like crap. The bass is terrible, the midrange…well don’t get me started. Some of those albums have degraded down to 32 or even 16kbps. It's ridiculous. FLAC rips from the same period still sound great, even if they weren’t stored correctly, in a cool, dry place. Seriously, stick to FLAC, you may not be able to hear the difference now, but in a year or two, you’ll be glad you did.

The point of the meme is that mp3s from decades ago were most likely encoded as 128k or even 64k due to hard drive sizes available at the time and as that increased so did mp3 bitrates. If you encoded your shit as 320k back in 2005 you wouldn't notice a difference.

It's precisely the "everyone I don't like is an outsider from a different, shit, inferior board" attitude that became ascendant in /jp/ around 2010 and turned everything into a mindless pissing contest for the next, oh, eight fucking years.

You are ALL new and you are ALL shit. Fuck off.

See, there you go. You have tabs for /v/, /co/ and /b/ open. And you're fucking complaining about "crossboarding."

>> No.18185104

I thought the term crossboarder was used before 2010/2011? It's been too long.

Anyway, there's nothing wrong with using multiple different boards. It's to be expected that a person will have a range of interests and that's absolutely fine. But the issue is acting like an outsider and bringing undesirable behaviors with you. The way I'm wording the following makes it sound much more serious than I mean to, but it's expected of you to have a minimal amount of knowledge regarding local culture, posting styles, memes, even "history" when posting, correct? So when you post you don't stand out and look like a fool. You pick up a lot of this information from lurking for a period of time. /jp/ has quite the population of long time posters (or at least used to have), so these unspoken assumptions are a bit more intense than what you'd find elsewhere.

Even before "crossboarders" were a thing, being a /b/tard or a newfag was a thing, which are essentially predecessors to the concept. It's a lot more straightforward than that. Nobody can actually tell if someone's crossboarding (unless they're a tripfag), therefore crossboarding has nothing to do with actual identity and everything to do with how you conduct yourself. Everyone on /jp/ is a /jp/sie until they start acting like they're on /v/: memetexting like they're on /v/, making low-effort shitposts as a substitute for arguments or discussion like they're on /v/, and generally being a shitty part of the board like they're on /v/.

/v/ specifically is being referred to because /v/ is the example of why fast boards breed shitty posters. On /v/ threads last less than a day, and every single faggot there has to get their word in, in the most obnoxiously visible way possible, before it gets drowned out in all the noise. They argue about the exact same shit every day for years on end and never achieve any kind of growth. Fast boards have this problem, and slow boards do not, because there is actually board space for discussion to happen. Naturally, this means that when someone shows up conditioned to post like they're on a fast board, they bring the general quality of the thread down and encourage other people to shitpost as fast-board shitposting has no room for actual discussion to take place, effectively turning the thread into one you'd see on a fast board.

Moot should have put a 5-10 minute post timer (but increased the character limit per post) on slow boards like /jp/ because there is no good reason why a person would ever need to post more than once in such a short time frame on a board where a single thread can be over a month old.

Feel free to replace "you" with "the faggot you're attempting to stand in for". You don't get to jump into a conversation, then leverage your own presumed non-guilt to elevate the person you're defending out of all guilt. Rather, you're to be treated on the same level they are. By the way, how hypocritical to take the contrarian everyone-is-wrong-but-myself stance with no explanation, and then complain about elitism. Your pretentiousness is much more superficial than people vocalizing that they care about thread quality.

Meta and elitism are natural mechanisms of slower boards that have to self-moderate. Nobody wants a stupid fucking argument with a defensive crossboarder in their thread, but that argument now exists, and until it gets removed then people have to look at that stupid fucking argument for up to the rest of this thread's life which could be a week or more. That stupid fucking argument will then trigger comments and discussion related to why it happened and how it could be avoided. It's a constructive behavior that happens only on boards with enough space to contain it, which is why it's hated and alien to people from shit boards where it doesn't happen.

If you also don't like this shit then do the board a favor and help by reporting every single post in the argument, and even the meta itself.

Crossboarding isn't the act of using multiple boards. Crossboarding is behaving as if you were in one board while posting in another board, in total disregard for its culture and customs.
There's nothing wrong with using more than one board as long as you keep their shit and their culture where they fucking belong.

ITT - Fag holds strong that greentexting is ok and should be allowed anywhere on 4chan while 50 other people tell him to fuck off and get out.
What's the next step of his master plan, going to a furry convention and trying to tell people wearing a KKK outfit is ok as long as it's got some hair on it?

I think the real problem here is how deluded you are into thinking how you could possibly be wrong. I mean, you, wrong? IMPOSSIBLE. All these posts MUST have been made by the same person! There's no other way for me to be right!

It depends on the VPN. Sometimes when attempting to post with a proxy (I would say 99% of the time if it's a public one) you'll receive the "You've been banned from all boards for the following reason: Proxy/VPN exit node" message. 4chan may be built on decades-old spaghetti code but it can at least detect this.

Read about misuse a few times now but still haven't encountered any case.
You have to be a special kind of retard if you're using a phrase without knowing its purpose and I guess the boards I frequent (/jp/) doesn't have a lot of those

"Who are you quoting" was a meme invented by everyone's favorite underaged South American tripfag and his IRC friends in an attempt to make a change to the cultural face of /jp/ in the year 2010, ushering in years of autistic shitposting about the "misuse" of greentext and spoiler tags by faggots playing board police.

>> No.18190167

>>18190083
It's being misused because "who are you quoting?" exists solely to make fun of how greentexting is a misuse of the quote system, as it's usually done to quote actions instead of the content of a post. Thus, the question: "who are you quoting?"
However, now that I've paid closer attention to the post I cited as an example, it seems that the second poster started quoting the first one, but then change it halfway through, which is what threw me off. For that, I'll apologize.

>>18190104
The thing is that even though it started as a form of shitposting indeed, it did have some power to it -- back then, greentexting as a whole was getting a lot more popular than the usual, especially in shitposting, so those people used that chance to create an effective counter-shitpost. What gave it that power was the fact that /jp/ has always respected the culture of Japanese imageboards, so that effective way to poke fun at people who misuse a feature as basic as the quote system gained usage and spread rather quickly.

The thing is that there's a difference between downloading a bunch of 60-100 MB files and a bunch of 300 MB+ files, especially given how Mega just loves randomly locking you out for exceeding download limits, doubly so because apparently they also throttle download speeds for automated tools. I mean it doesn't even fucking make sense that they've nearly completely stopped uploading mp3 encodes.
And thanks for the offer, but I know how to encode things myself. It's just that now I'll have to jump through even more hoops to get the music I want, for no reason other than how a bunch of fags got tired of organization (which somehow made them change their preferences too).
At least I guess I still have 9tensu if I want to be lazy so I guess I'll just kill myself before it hurts even more

>> No.18195184

It has nothing to do with DS, that particular uploader just only posted FLACs, you can go in there and post MP3 encodes and they'll get added to the spreadsheet. Nothing is stopping anyone.

Fuck you, you piece of shit. You're telling people who don't want to upload in FLAC to fuck off with this. I have quite a few albums that were only uploaded here in non-FLAC and that I still to this day can't find anywhere else. At least two of those belong in my top 10 most favourite doujin albums.

Instead of bragging why don't you upload those in FLAC to prove a point? Because we can all make up lies on the internet.

>> No.18196641

>>18196623
How am I supposed to post them in FLAC if I clearly don't have them lossless, which is the entire point. I wouldn't have discovered both of those artists either, and neither would they have gotten my money for different albums they made.
Here is one of them:
https://whiterecords.bandcamp.com/album/ascension
I bought the other one (infinite potential), and never would have if the above one wasn't posted by some anon here. Reminder that albums like this are now discouraged from being posted since you're more or less telling people to fuck off if it's not in FLAC.

Yes I changed my point from "Hey stop telling people to fuck off if they're not going to upload FLAC" to "Hey stop telling people what format to upload their rips as".
That's quite the moving of goalposts there. You on the other hand changed from "Please upload FLAC or fuck off" to "That's can't be right! I bet you can't name one of those artists and you're fucking lying" to "b-b-but they were FLAC at one point!! They should upload those!!!".
