That's not entirely fair. Greed gives you a free +1 in a game where hand advantage is everything, and will always be everything. If unbanned, it would be a 3 off in every deck just for its ability to give free resources. That alone makes it overly centralizing as a card.
If I were to compare it to anything, it's akin to Black Lotus in its ability to give free resources that can make or break a game.

Ok, so let me see if I get what`s happening.
The Greed Goblin was rich as fuck, but he lost it all in a bubble, and ends up reduced to begging, that far I can get.
He then steals the pot of greed (Which allows him to draw 2 cards) and the jar of greed to sell them to a rich merchant, but he get jack shit for them.
That`s when i lose the tread. I think he hires the burglars to get the pot back (presumably so that he can draw 2 more cards), something goes wrong, they have to call a sorcerer to fix something. but the pot ends broken so the merchant is pissed.

Goblin hires bandits too get back the pot, but while doing so they awaken the spirit of the pot, which starts doing bad shit. Dharac shows up and seals the spirit or whatever, but the pot's now just a ugly, useless pot so the merchant's pissed.
