What's the current status on critical hit calculation? The eye of mind page says it's capped at 3x, and MA has a very hard time reaching it. But the MA page says that critical hits can do many times more damage that normal hits. I don't know who to believe!

I don't see anything particularly odd about those two things. Sounds right to me. Considering how high the damage dice can get with MA it should be expected that almost any multiplier would greatly amp the damage. Due to the huge damage potential of MA it does kind of make sense that you may need to work a bit harder to muster up a better damage multiplier. You get what you put in so to speak.

Dual wield was almost pointless prior because you could simply stack crit to get guaranteed hits no matter how bad your accuracy got.

The first hit probably has the standard crit chance, eg if you had a 40% to crit, it would be 40% for your first hit for that turn. Your subsequent ones would drop though

Then if you get another "furthermore..." That hit would have 30 or 25%. And so on. I don't think anyone knows the formula yet though, so it might be worse than that (higher % drop for each attack) or better.

I've been watching his videos and he's been explaining just about everything the first time he does it. I don't think necessarily he should put an annotation every time he does the same thing thereafter too.
The one thing I can remember that he didn't explain was that bashing NPCs woke them up from sleep. (Or perhaps I missed it)

There's really not much to comment on when doing earlygame farming. He could insert some more in-depth commentary (IE alternative methods to grind) but really even that wouldn't be able to fill in all the time he needs to grind plat. Even for eventful games like fighting games commentators often have to go out of their way to fill space, and Elona can be literal hours of just pulling veggies.

If he really wanted to put in the editing effort then he could probably trim/timelapse all the repetitive tasks and do recaps when goals are met, and highlight interesting events, but I personally just skim through the grindier parts so it's not something I personally mind that much. For those that want the elona timesink without actually playing elona then not condensing it might actually be a good thing.

Either way there'll be more things to comment on once he gets out of the earlygame.

I keep a copy of all mods I'm using, positioned in their correct folder directories, in a separate folder called Mods.
Every time version updates, I do a quick check to see there's nothing that needs editing due to UI changes (i.e. interface.bmp, etc), and then just merge that folder into the new Elona version folder.

Guys, I made a character.bmp slicer in Python.
It has two scripts:

slice.py cuts the character.bmp into 48x48 or 96x48 sizes for you and dump it into a subfolder.

rebuild.py will reconstitute the pictures into a single character.bmp which it will put into another subfolder.

In case you lads thought bandits were going to be capped at Lv50, it ain't true. Both player level and fame are used in the calculation for their strength. What the update meant is that only the player level portion would be capped at 50, but more fame still means stronger bandits as usual. These are about twice my level for example. But being >50, if I were twice this level with the same high fame, they'd probably be the same strength.

Just to add, if the images are named correctly in their individual state (chara_1.bmp, chara_2.bmp, etc..) you can place them all in <elona_dir>/user/graphic and the game will take the sprites there in favor of character.bmp.

I split the images out a while ago and have been doing this. The benefit is if a new sprite is added by Ano to character.bmp and you haven't had time to update your bmp yet, it will take the sprite from character.bmp for the new monster and still use your other sprites from the user folder for everything else.

I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Right now I'm trying my best to keep file size down due to the amount of time it takes to upload anything to youtube. Usually when I'm done recording the video file is about 10 gigs leading me to have to compress and try to save where I can on data such as keeping subtitles short. When you get to midgame, it's a *fantastic* way to level your skills. I do it whenever I get the chance. Get evasion, greater evasion and e.g. armor skills to as close to 400% potential as possible. My impression is that the first 4 hits will already be doing the bulk of the damage thanks to how OP crits are with MA. So it might be better to boost them with high powered claws/tonfas and the equipment attributes they get. Rather than trying to hit twice as many times.

Well I don't know what MA's crit rate is, but normally it should be x3 right? So if only the first half scores crits that becomes 1x + 3x = 4x damage total. After playing around with void slayer Kai in 1.74 I saw that I can consistently still crit 3 to 4 of my hits but crits past that are hard but still do happen sometimes. You will do more damage unarmed if you stack additional attack chance well enough. MA still has a good 1 mill to 2 mill dmg lead on two hand from what I've seen. Which is better for pets with high life, DV or PV? This shit has always confused me in every RPG when I try to think out the math. My initial thought would be that PV would be better, because it would multiply its effect over the higher health, but I really have no idea.

If you're not sure what you'll specialize in just get a nice high average of both. Otherwise:

Tactics advice:

DV is only useful if you can reliably dodge, then it prevents any damage for dodge% of the time. Good for dealing with high damage, low accuracy stuff.

PV works on anything that isn't piercing or dodged. It However it can simply delay the inevitable if you aren't able to tank the damage anyway. Great for dealing with high frequency low damage attacks.

Strategy advice:

PV is good for melee and tanks who take a continues beating. These are the ones than run into the fray and try to kill the target before the target kills them.

DV is good for ranged types and those who like to dodge or teleport around. You run away when your health is low and heal up for another round. The goal here is to avoid any damage and be a glass cannon, while running away from real danger.

It's possible to solo the entire game. Before pets were buffed to the state they are today most people soloed the game from what I saw in the past. I certainly know I can solo the game if I ever wanted but I think having pets can be fun.

Best party size is probably going to be different from player to player. I ran with 4 other pets on my prior character but didn't really feel like I needed a party that big. So this time around I might only run up to 3 pets or less. I can at least say that if you run smaller party that you probably have less to worry about when it comes to gearing the party. Easier to dedicate more time to fewer pets to really make them shine too.

It's cause there is much less reason to care about those cities. In base elona each city is really different, but south tyris is kinda copy paste on the themes for each city. Irva is more unique but competes with a the last two continents for content.Each new chapter adds a pretty much the same absolute amount of places and stuff, but a lower relative amount. 1/1 -> 1/2 -> 1/3.

I don't find that the case at all. I think south tyris is great. A couple of nice unique spots. Got the smoke and pipe which is a nice comfy inn with a small hot spring outback. Melkawn looks the part of a city with a seedy back alley with an underground casino. I like how port Kurualm has actual warehouses built into caves. Then you got the military base, maid mansion, refugee camp, and undersea castle which are interesting places. The oblivion palace is a nice hidden location and Ludas fits the theme of an aggricultural town trying to rebuild perfectly. Don't see South Tyris as empty at all and the towns are detailed enough to see the themes going on. Personally I think the underground casino has too many things going on actually with the details.

You can do it, but you will be very bogged down by pet management. It's actually easier now than ever to run mass pets due to stuff like custom AI and pet picnic basket.
The problem is usually if you pay attention, you'll start to notice after a while there's going to be like 2 or 3 pets in your team that's taking all the kills and they'll start to pull away from everyone else. You'll have to temporarily remove them from party to have everyone else catch up or modify their AI in some way so they don't take all the kills.
If you're ok with doing that all the time then yeah go for it. I personally think it's easier to run fewer pets.

The other thing is you'll have a lot more onus on you to look for good equipment for more people. I personally like to run as many pets as I can equip with good resist equipment. Because otherwise they're just going to die over and over in the midgame.

I'm having no trouble managing 8 pets at a time and keeping them roughly equal in damage output. Rarely if ever remove any from the party.

Key is the tag system. I use tag to spread around the strong/weak pets, which solves speed difference/AP gain/exp gain issues. Make it so each duo is always dealing damage (shadowstep, melee+ranged so one always attacking). If problems arise, some clever recombining of cute couples allows those behind to catch up.

Word of warning: It's going to take a while to get everybody suited up and get to this point, so I'd add one at a time and not go with a big group right off the bat. I recommend focusing on the weakest of the bunch as much as possible. Later Evochat gold gifts allow everyone to pretty much always have all stat and skill potentials at maximum, but you need a large income. For reference our levels are around 90, stats around 300.

nvm, turned out i was playing E+C on E+ save that was done on E+C created character... i had a lot of fatal errors in this dungoen constantly switching from plus to costum and back, but it stabalized after i finished.
there were 4 floors in that dungeon, and 3 big daddies
i killed none of them.

So I don't know if it's just me but it seems like a lot of NPCs I assumed to be unique npcs don't seem to count for unique level with their figurines in the museum.
I've been picking them up and then dropping them on the ground and looking for the unique level message. Pael, for example, generates a message. Pael's mom (Lily) does not. Gwen and Lomias figurines also don't seem to coumt. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what Unique means?

From what I remember from the Japanese patch notes, it also depends on the lowest level of Lesimas that you've reached. I don't remember what the text said exactly, but the way I understood it, lower level NPCs would stop boosting your uniqueness the deeper you go into the dungeon.

You've got it backwards, you need to have gone farther into a dungeon than the npc's level or they don't count, ie, the inner gods won't do anything until you reach 1000-2000 in a dungeon.

Also, some figures are duplicates that you wouldn't think are. The rouge bosses have different figures for each sex, but only one of their figures will count. Gwen and pael's mom both have multiple figurines, is that what's happening?

There isn't much to translate though. The text files inside pretty much just have instructions on where to place files and npc list IDs for replacing them using the csv method.
There isn't really a list of assets or anything unfortunately. You'll have to dig through them yourself.
The asset pack itself is updated periodically.
The "beautify pack" was last updated September and he has them here:

You'll probably need to download baidudisk if you want to download that, i think the file size is too big so they dont allow you to dl through browser.

Oh I see what you're getting at. I think we were looking at different packs. You're probably talking about the one that has all the folder names in Chinese and I was thinking about the Beautify pack.

I'm making a new character to return to Elona, last time I played was when 1.70 was new.

Figured I'd try adding some more customization this time and I went through some of the PPC folders on the pastebins but nothing fit what I had in mind.

Basically, I want something that fits the character art I'm using, even a simple white shirt would be fine. (Surprisingly elona+c doesn't actually have clothes that come in white.)

Any help pointing me in the right direction?

you can change the color of your sprite shirt you know
and regarding whole pcc's, you can change those by changing the color of your body.

1. find a random well/fountain/toilet/ whatever
2. mix like, 30 something potions into there like crimale or something
3. save the game
4. start quofing until wish
5. if fountain is dry, close without saving and reopen the game.
