Waste of what could have been a nice comeback. Ignore the other thread, I was stupid not to check. Anyway:

It's been a while.

MYSTERY TIME

Battler makes a surprise visit to Rokkenjima, three days after a huge thunderstorm hit the island.
He came on a whim, but decided to tour the mansion, and wanted to round his visit off with a visit to Kinzo.
Genji opened the door to Kinzo's study after any attempts to call out Kinzo's name turned out fruitless.
Inside, Battler, accompanied by Genji, Nanjo, Kumasawa and Gohda find Kinzo slumped over his dinner table, which was set with several dishes of a full course meal.
Nanjo verifies that Kinzo is not only dead, but he has been for three full days, at the time of the thunderstorm. Kinzo appears to have been strangled to death.
Yet for some reason, the full course meal on the table appears to be fresh, the soup is still lukewarm and the rest of the dishes look fresh enough not to give off some terrible smell.
There's no way the dishes had been sitting there for three days without smelling horrendous.
So for whatever reason, one or more of the four people who had access to Kinzo's room, Genji, Nanjo, Kumasawa and Gohda had prepared a fresh meal for an obviously dead Kinzo.

It is a puzzling case. You may ask for the statements Battler took from the four suspects but /RED/ is a precious gift. But perhaps you already have some clues.
As always, /BLUE/ is encouraged if you want to earn a /RED/.

Some other things I'd like to ask:
Was the study closed off from all outer influences from after Kinzo was strangled to death (and after the culprit(s) left the room) until Battler entered the room alongside the servants?
Could there be some more information given about the types of food on the table, with temperature and rotten scale given in /RED/ if at all significant or necessary to solve the mystery?

If you haven't already, you NEED to read Episode 8's manga. It's pretty much the only time where an Umineko adaptation managed to fully live up to and possibly even surpass the source material. There's a bunch of changes and refinements here and there, as well as some great new original content like Confession of the Golden Witch.

I think there was a good amount of foreshadowing showing that they were messed up people. The Sumadera family is like the Sonozaki family but even more screwed up.

Speaking of that, it's impressive how Ryukishi makes certain characters likeable without even giving them a name or a sprite. I still remember Ange's grandfather and the guy from the convenience store after all these years.

The scene from 25:32 to 38:20 is my absolute favorite moment in the entire series. And that includes Umineko.

I love the music that starts playing when Takano and Irie talk about "the festival". It's probably my favorite track in Higurashi. It's hype as shit.

Does anyone else LOVE that part as much as I do? The transition between the Irie/Takano scene and the Sonozaki house scene is fucking beautiful.

It's amazing even with the awkward old translation.

Speaking of the new sprites, Rika looks like a complete idiot. In the original sprite (and Alchemist too I guess) you can tell that she's fucking with you. You may believe what she's saying, but once you know about her real personality you can SEE it behind that fake smile. But the Mangagamer version makes her look genuinely innocent, which is really weird. It's even hard to believe she's really crafty during the club games. She looks way too "moe".

The thing about Satoko's nude sprite in the original version is that it's not really intended to be sexual at all. Yes, she's naked. But it's really more of a statement of just how desperate she is in that situation. It's meant to shock you, as you see her stripped totally bare out in the open where anyone can see her, so distraught that she doesn't even try to cover herself up. It's a raw, animalistic depiction that shows just how far gone she is.

If all Ryukishi wanted to do was give us some fanservice, he could have easily snuck it in during the happy slice of life segments, where it would have been more fitting. Just have some cliche scene like Keiichi walking in on Satoko changing or something. It would have been so easy to do, but he didn't. Not even once. Even during the scene where Keiichi finds Satoko in the bath, they STILL don't use her naked sprite, even though Keiichi definitely would have had a much clearer view of her naked body than he does during the bridge scene.

Tbh, that's Umineko in a nutshell for most of 4chan

First it challenges you and gets your full curiosity and theory crafting to levels your never imagined you actually had.

Second, it frustrates you to no end, to the point where you just either drop it some times before finishing, or rush through, or continue theorizing in suffer, until eventually, regardless your path was, you feel betrayed and unsatisfied by something regardless of your likings of the epilogues or not, even hating the work as a whole in some cases.

Third, you eventually either reread it or read the manga sometime later and declare it a masterpiece when things perfectly connects and fall into place if you just try a bit more reading into them with attention.

I can't even count how many people said the very same words in a way ever since Umineko ended, seriously.

Despite having finished both anime series, I never finished reading the last arc of Higurashi and I only got to something like the midpoint of the fourth arc of Umineko. Actually, I'm lying when I said that I was reading them, I was being a cheapskate and watching a YouTube LP of both. Anyway, now that I actually own both VNs and I still have my notes from when I watched the reading of the bits that I've seen, how should I continue to experience these VNs? The reason you probably didn't hear about it is probably because it's not that widely used. For one thing, it's harder to get ahold of and get working than the other versions. Also, some people don't like the new translation they made for it, while others just straight up hate any and all changes the PS3 version made to the original.

Newt is pretty good. He can be really fucking stubborn, though. He loved the shit out of Higurashi, but kind of missed the point of the story for being a massive Mionfag. If only Mion, her love interest and her sister had survived at the end, he would have considered it a happy ending. He didn't give much of a shit about Rena or any other character that ever wronged Mion in some way.

Thanks to his Umineko LP I realized that the ending of EP5 (before the Tea Party) is probably the best in the series.

For some reason, I never understood Battler's "it's all useless, isn't it?" line, why he repeats it a couple of times and Natsuhi's over the top reaction to it. I just assumed that he said it for no reason, since it's his catchphrase. And that Natsuhi was surprised because Battler got fed up with the scheme and decided to defend her at the very end.

But after rewatching that part, it's really obvious that Battler is saying his catchphrase with the voice of the man from 19 years ago and that Natsuhi is terrified at the realization that Battler was the creepy guy on the phone. The bomb detonates at that time, killing the people that faked their deaths in the first twilight and ending the tale. I don't know why I just assumed that piece Battler was defending Natsuhi, when meta-Battler is fucking dead at that point and can't control his piece.

I still think that Sayo is the person on the phone during the first call, because it happened a few weeks before the conference (I'm pretty sure she bribed the relatives during the conference itself) and Natsuhi said that the voice sounded like that of a middle school boy or a girl pretending to be a guy. She was conviced that the person was male when they introduced themselves as the baby from 19 years ago and Battler started doing the voice.

I wish the PS3 version didn't use Battler's voice actor for the first phone call. The description of his voice doesn't make any sense. Yet another proof that Umineko is a better experience if you play it as the author intended, without any patches or "updates". At least for the first time.

IRL real time writing? That's the only frontier he didn't quite went through yet (real time interaction is possible in theaters, and he is a theater-going person himself from the start).

It's just that while Higurashi music was all nice and well placed, Umineko's were mostly spectacular for every single scene they shown up with (and when dissonance happens, the execution is chillingly justifiable, much like Higurashi and Higanbana), and some tracks even were absolute masterpieces of the Trance genre for any person who actually listen to them passionately.

We like to discuss them more because Umineko's soundtrack is just so memorable overall.

I was too late for the Umineko theory train since I started after Ep 6 and everyone was shitposting about the solution, so it was fun being able to think about Higurashi while not knowing the answer. But Takano is obviously the baddie, it was pretty clear from the second and third arcs.

Pretty much. Higurashi's anime glorifies the violence and glosses over the rest when it doesn't outright leave out certain scenes. If one is the type to enjoy the mindless fun of hearing screaming lolis and watching graphic torture being animated, then Higurashi's anime has that. Of course, there's far more to Higurashi than those type of scenes, but that's also the main appeal of it for some people. I don't encourage watching the anime adaptation, but I can't discourage watching it either. Unlike Umineko, unless it's DameDame subs.

One could argue one of his biggest mistakes and yet the one time he went against Kinzo was keeping Yasu's survival a secret. For all we know Yasu could have had a good life if he was raised by the Ushiromiyas post-accident, but we will never know about this.

Also this reminds me of something, in iLion's Kakera, did Kyria/Rudolf ever learn about the bomb and if so, how did they find out? I guess it really doesn't matter since the entire Kakera was cut off after Lion got taken out.

Read the manga if you want a good adaptation. Watch the anime if you want a nice soundtrack.

You may find the anime pretty decent, but don't let that fool you. It's because you read the VN first and already know all the characters like the palm of your hand. Characters like Irie, Ooishi and Tomitake have no backstory in the anime. And Shion's motive makes no sense because they never say that she was originally Mion.

Also, the second arc spoils part of the fifth arc and also spoils the fact that there is something bizarre going on with Rika. Right at the beginning, they show you a flashforward of Rika killing herself, which makes you think that it happened in the second arc and makes everything feel edgy and nonsensical, since you don't know the context. I mean, a little girl killing herself with a knife? Seriously?

Some of the most memorable scenes in the novel are either missing or so badly adapted that they make you laugh instead. The way Keiichi goes nuts and throws away the axe when he finds Rika's dead body is actually hilarious. Oh, and his dad is now some boring faceless man with no personality.

She had more than enough reason to hate the siblings and their spouses, which are all terrible people. Natsuhi is slightly more decent, but she is responsible for destroying Yasu's dick and turning him into a weak, genderless faggot that can't even jerk off. She is the reason Yasu wants to die in the first place.

The servants are responsible for allowing Kinzo to raise his daughter as a literal fairy tale character so he could keep her in a giant cage and have sex with her. The guy is literally Joseph Fritzl. They are also responsible for saving the baby, having him live as a castrated freak, raising him as a girl and selecting him as a servant so he can be bullied by Natsuhi and the older servants. They did all this shit just so Kinzo could have his redemption and die in peace.

Then we have the cousins. Jessica is the daughter of the woman Yasu hates the most, so she can't have her revenge without indirectly hurting her. George is a jealous beta nerd that will probably kill himself or become a hikikomori if his perfect waifu commits suicide or turns out to be a fucking lying eunuch. Maria is a turbo autist abused by her mother, so she will grow up with emotional problems on top of being socially inept. Battler is a liar that made Yasu wait for him until she ended up in that situation, and then came back laughing as if nothing happened.

Without Battler's stupid promise, Yasu would have quit her job sooner, moved to the city and found a normal boyfriend. A person that would make her feel loved without acting like a desperate faggot that can't live without his perfect waifu. A person that would try to have sex with her, find out that something is wrong and tell her that it's not a big deal, instead of being a "perfect gentleman" that won't touch his girlfriend after two whole years.

Yasu had a massive inferiority complex after being bullied for a decade by her employers and coworkers. Staying in that island waiting for Battler was a terrible mistake. She got into a bunch of relationships with people that only loved her fake personas, found out about her physical issues without telling anybody and got access to a fucking bomb that could end her problems at any time. It's all Genji's fault for being loyal and professional to the point of being sick in the head.

What PS3 version did you read?

There is a PATCH for the ORIGINAL novel that replaces everything with the PS3 assets. And there is also the original Witch Hunt translation patch that is practically perfect.

And then, there is a separate program called Umineko Project that basically EMULATES the actual PS3 version (some scenes turn into shit and the translation has a few problems). As far as I know, the Chiru episodes didn't get this "treatment" yet.

It sounds like you read the latter. If that's really the case, you might be having problems trying to install the ORIGINAL version of Chiru because you need to change the language settings to Japanese (you can change it back after installing the game).

It's the only reason I can think of for why you would have problems installing Chiru but not the previous game. You must have played EP1-4 with that Umineko Project thing.

I've heard complaints about how young Kinzo is nothing like old Kinzo. But I actually think they are pretty similar.

Old Kinzo was only a ridiculous caricature in Yasu’s writings and Natsuhi's study illusion. He was probably a bit senile and did bizarre things, but I'm pretty sure he wasn't as fucking crazy as people believe.

What do you guys think? Was the real Kinzo completely obsessed with his "magic research" or was he relatively normal until Natsuhi and Krauss turned his ghost into a raving madman to explain why he didn't want to come out?

Is it reasonable to assume that Beatrice II did spend time with her son, even if she was too innocent to comprehend that it was her own kid?

I mean, Natsuhi had the baby for three days before fucking everything up. And when Kinzo was told that the baby died, he went insane and ranted about how Beatrice's soul was stolen from him again.

If the baby was a literal newborn, Natsuhi would realize that the story about it being an orphan from the orphanage was a lie. And yet, she believed it. And if the baby "died" less than a week after being born, the Beatrice that rosa met would still be tired after giving birth and wouldn't look healthy.

I think it's clear that Beatrice II was around the baby for a month or something, but it was taken care of by Kumasawa and other servants. Maybe Rosa met Beatrice while the baby was being taken care of in some underground room.

What exactly is she talking about? Takano didn't even get to fake her death in Matsuribayashi. What exactly was her mistake?

It doesn't sound like they are referring to EP5 of Umineko either. There were fake deaths in that one, but Lambda didn't even lose since Battler and Erika's solutions denied each other.

Because that's how I ended up reading Umineko. I watched Higurashi anime --> read Higurashi VN --> Read Umineko VN (because apparently the anime was shit and unfinished)

Anime is a far more popular medium, so it's only natural that many fans would be introduced to the series that way. A better question is, would people still read Umineko if the anime was complete? I feel like a lot of people only get into the vn because they don't have a choice if they want the whole story.

I got into Umineko through word of mouth. Despite watching Higurashi when it aired and then forgetting almost everything about it, I ended up just playing Umineko, finding out while playing it that the same circle did Higurashi too, finished Umineko then played Higurashi. I still haven't revisited the Higurashi anime to see how bad it compares to the VN.
