because they have other jobs so the only cheap (debatable) and easy way to entertain yourself, be it on the train or just waiting for something, is to play a mobile game.

What the fuck is fun about them? Every mobile game I've ever seen prides itself on the least amount of interaction possible. What's fun about watching a game play itself and wasting money rolling gatcha just to get rewards you don't even interact with? You might as well just give your money to a poor person since you're throwing it away already.

People used to listen to music. Or read. Or talk to each other. Hey they're artists, they could doodle on a memo pad. Or they could just twiddle their thumbs and think. There's plenty of alternatives to mobage.

Anyway I haven't noticed that much mobage in twitter feeds. If we're not counting text only posts, then their feeds seem to be more like 2% their art, 28% other peoples' art, 30% food, and 38% assorted real life pictures, and... 2% RWBY. What's up with that?

Pachinko have basically been replaced by mobage. Half the country basically plays for every waking moment that isn't work.

Drawing on public transit is really tough 9/10 times (vehicle is shaky, you don't have anywhere to place your sketch pad, people bump into you, too much going on to focus, etc) so there's no point in doing that. Japanese trains can get especially crowded so it wouldn't work. I personally would recommend against it. Pretty sure the only one you could draw on is during a flight but you still have to deal with unexpected, potential turbulence and all sorts.

Art takes hours of effort to create but mobage screencaps can be taken with about fifteen seconds worth of effort. These are games engineered specifically for the purpose of taking your time away. I recently broke one addiction and am about to head facefirst down another after picking a new series to drown in.

Is this because they made it gaijin-friendly?

>> No.17991342

Twitter is 100x more gaijin-friendly than Pixiv, being a gaijin-run website. Twitter won because it gives artists instant feedback and allows them to chat more freely with their fans / fellow artists.

The shit quality, horrible interface and poor archive system I would have thought to be a sufficient counterweight. I can't imagine just stumbling upon an artist I like on twatter, unlike pixiv. Shows what I know, I suppose.

>I can't imagine just stumbling upon an artist I like on twatter
Once you follow enough people who post shit you like you'll find that they retweet shit that you also like. It's the social in social media. If you're just browsing or whatever, then yeah, you probably won't find shit.

My impression is that most Westerners consume art by picking some tags and plumbing the shit out of them but most Japanese people are in the habit of staying up to date with new material by people they already like.

>> No.17991763

>>17991218
No, Pixiv kept doing other stuff that pissed them off, so they moved to other sites and also Twitter. It's kind of funny that Pixiv is trying to counter with that Pawoo thing.
