I wanted to clean up the remaining content in Shuusaku, but the site I consulted for the walkthrough is gone from my bookmarks and now I cannot find it anymore.

Maybe someone from here knows about it? It was a typical Japanese Web 1.0 site, teal background, no ads. There were also walkthroughs for Kakyuusei, Doukyuusei 1+2, Isaku, Kisaku, Ai Shimai, Daiakuji and more hosted on there.

Nah, it's more fucked up than actual horror. Horror needs horror atmosphere, and Chronobox even consciously disrupts that at the one point, it could've been horror, by pretty much openly showing you exactly what will happen soon. And that simply includes a lot of gory things.

But I guess horror is different depending on the person. If you consider generally messed up stuff and heavy gore as horror, then sure, it features a little bit. But if you want some actual horror atmosphere, it doesn't really offer that. Too minor to play it for that at least.

I just finished Chronobox's normal ending. I quite liked the reveals and stuff, but like any mystery, the game does kind of drag down a bit once you get into the reveals. I will admit that this game is without a doubt probably one of the best mystery VNs that I have read so far. The way they reveal everything and how you can see it being foreshadowed from the beginning is absolutely fantastic. But the ending, I guess kind of put a damper on the game because it felt like the game was just reading off a bunch of bullet points to answer some of the game's major questions without really any emotional buildup or anything I think the game's ending could have been better had they added more to it, but I'm not sure what specifically could have been done better. I will admit that scene where the insert song played was pretty great, though.

That being said, I haven't read the true end so maybe that will make my opinion change. Do you just have to read every location from the first choice right after every loop to get it? What do you do after that?

>>17743820
Just to give a counterpoint to that guy who said Chronobox wasn't horror. I definitely thought that Chronobox was a horror game. It was one of the more unsettling games I've played. It doesn't feature massive amounts of gore or jumpscares, but it's just very unsettling due to how surreal it can be at times. That's just my personal experience with the game though.

>> No.17744338

The true ending is just extra 5 minutes. Yeah, Chronobox really needed at least one hour proper epilogue to end it. The current ending is literally like " Ok guys, all the fucked up stuff are now over and everything is explained, just go home "
That's my only major complaint about the game.

Yeah, read every choice you haven't seen up until now then just skip towards the ending and a new choice will appear. And I don't agree about the endings, both endings are very thematically strong, something doesn't have to be overly long and drawn out to be impactful.

I pretty much agree with you on this, yeah. I know a lot of mysteries tend to lose their appeal once they're uncovered and this one still managed to hang on for a while, but the end was a little, I dunno, missing something. Honestly I wish they'd dropped the "true" end bit and just offered you a choice between the two. Though other than that I'm not sure what they could have done otherwise. Would've liked to see all the others and their real counterparts, though. Shie was a really interesting girl and all she got was one teaser of a line saying she really could walk, but her personality has like a mental block about it.

The catch is that the writing in general shits the wall hard. In all possible ways. The question is just, how much do you care and/or can deal with it.

To be honest, I expected even worse from the writer, but this is in some way still strangely enough in line. In a really unfortunate way. Well, I do like the overall setting and the music is also pretty good, as are most of the characters. It's readable. Kinda.
Just beware of crappy writing. Nasty amounts of deus ex machina together with insane amounts of repetition and just weird as fuck writing in general. Third person all knowing narrator during the game segment (as in most of the part), but you still have your silent protag you never see... aside of in like one CG?

I don't want to judge it till I see how it goes towards the end. It's probably not going to be pretty.

Especially when the entire game felt like it was going to go in the exact opposite direction than the way it did. It was as if the game pulled an anti-Subahibi. Ah, well, I can't really blame Nayuta either way. I only wished we could have found out how all the other characters have moved on, but I doubt they'd be able to live completely normal lives with the shit that happened to them. I found the ending extremely cynical.

I also can't really hate the ending because it was heavily foreshadowed in previous scenes. Game was damn brilliant in that regard.

It's really hit or miss from my experience. Sometimes it works flawlessly, othertimes it barely works at all - this is especially bad if there's a large gap of silence in the middle of the sentence, because what happens is the heroine's mouth keeps moving during the whole time.

The lip sync has to be the worst part of this game.

And considering Yuki acts how a proper Nippon wife should behave (hell, she even uses the kanji form of danna-sama that the MC finds creepy) plus the fact she's an ojou-sama from a rich family, well, MC lucked out with her.

I kinda wish that the ending of the routes were slightly different at least. Sure, for Yuki and Aiko pregnancy was the obvious end game, but for a girl like Nono who is driven and ambitious having a child so soon after starting a business was a bit counter-productive.

-Writing: The author repeats everything way too much. You will realize this pretty fast, as it gets even comedic at times where within 10 lines you get essentially the same line 4 times or so. One way to deal with this is just to randomly not read a narration text-box or skim narration. If this part would not be a case, it'd be actually fairly well paced.
Unfortunately hand in hand with that goes that the author wrote things in a way too predictable way, and if it wasn't predictable, it's deus ex machina. With the exception of like once, though as nice as that was... even that was ultimately overshadowed by one of most dumb deus ex machina moments the game has to offer. The true route was unfortunately the culmination of all the shitty writing and was standard, predictable and shit in so many ways that it's probably better to just not pay much attention to it.
Finally game rules. As long as it was simple, it was okay. But as soon as the author tried to makes things more complex, the balance go ruined. The worst here was Claire's route. This was just nuts in so many way.

Even with all of that, it can still be somewhat enjoyable thanks to most of the characters being nice. It could've been better though. The game features two psycho girl nutjobs, but one is considered "okay", while the other isn't (and is not a heroine obviously). I think the author was somewhat aware of this (hopefully), but it was never given time and importance. After all the girl is just nice and doesn't want anyone to get hurt, right? Even if that means locking them all in, so they remain safe and sound. Or she would kill herself if she has to kill one person. She is NUTS. Which is fine. But why is nobody caring...?

Finally, this is suffering too much from its moe roots. There are certain battles of life and death with people sometimes dying, and yet the art is reflecting nothing of that. Not even injury. What? How! The girls also sometimes feel like they are in a bit of a wrong game with their designs. Especially someone like Misaki... but whatever, I went there already. And yet there's very little content a moege fan would want. At least half the ero is unlocked after seeing the respective epilogue of a girl. Barely random dates or anything like that.I'm sure all the Lump of Sugar fans felt very weird when they tried this game.

Well, at least this has nice music, a nice cat and best girl Claire. She is even a gamer girl who likes her Dark Souls and Pokemon IV training. Fairly amusing little epilogue she got herself in that regard. VERY little though, as all epilogues after the true route are.

Steeled myself and finally I managed to finish Tasuku route. Best bro, best leader type character, bar none. He unfucked the whole drama, set both MCs straight and willingly back off from the love triangle like a good leader. Mitsuki come close behind for putting up with Yumi bullshit when she chats to her. The drama hurts, but after seeing the outcome and how it resolved, worth it. Refreshing to see how many side characters involved in the life of this couple, and how significant some of them are. Weeaboo please. Japanese themselves recognize 差別じゃなくて個別 as a extremely cliche phrase used by sexists/racists, it almost sounds intentional. I'm not into this discussion at all as I do believe there are biological differences between genders that you can't avoid, but those lines were obviously very directly referencing a generalization about gender and didn't reference Ushio being tiny at all, nothing was "misconstrued". I tried to make good choices in the game, and it felt incomplete.

She's close to the same height as my sister(about 150cm), it's not 'that' short as you think and plus she's not really that weak.
It just depends on your overall build, what you eat, how you grow up etc.

That said most anime girls girls are thin as fuck so I guess they have to use height as an indication for physical aptitude and strength I guess.

Just finished the trial. So it turned out that they reused some weapons from Heart and make them passive weapons that automatically fire by themselves (up to 8 if you have red equipments for all slots). Battles feel a lot easier after defeating Leviathan thanks to those.

As for plot, nothing stands out so far, but it's not like I expect any better from Zero's writer. Same goes for music, okay in overall but still far below Heart or Sky level.

Also, since the game is auto-save only, it's gonna be a pain to read text for all the choices in this game. I really hope they'll do something about it in the full version.

Has to have at least one scene where they turn into bugs and eat each other.
Has to have at least one scene in which a gun is anally inserted.
Has to have at least one scene in which the heroines repair a retro console without any outside help.
Has to have at least one scene in which the heroines struggle to read an OELVN together, and then decide to just use machine translation.
Has to have at least one scene in which the sisters insert a glass rod inside a soldier's penis to extract some vital (political) information from him.
Has to have a scene in which they set up their own imageboard where people can suggest scenes. It would actually exist, and you could only enter if you've already read this scene.

>the ending was too vague.
That's the thing, Kodoka said to watch the prolouge and that clears up things.
It proved that that was their first brain washing, and they didn't want to be in the game. That said, who were the people watching, did Tsumugi lie about her disease and pretend to be them and do the Audition?
How much of it was fake and was real?
The ending covers the theme of the game, 'Truth and Lies' quite well.
With that, even if they were fake they still changed the world as fictional people. Their pain, sadness and experience was real to them, despite being planned.

It being vague and people still discussing it for months after it came out says to me it's a well thought-out story despite being a mess in places. Still that's me.

Why are most MCs rude or kinda vulgar in their speech.
Like how they address others or even honorifics like omae and stuff.

Let's say a genki girl shows up to him and acts pretty hyper active. Most MCs would just say 'what weird person but they don't seem bad' or just call them weird. Basically most social commentary involves them ridiculing people if they're unique, the only exception are characters that are really kind, like nadeshiko characters.

This game actually ended up a lot less "incomplete" than I feared. I guess the expectations and perhaps the little prequel I didn't read didn't do the game very well.

There are some issues with the company side of the cast, mostly in that you don't know much about them. There was no need to stage a silly war in a gigantic company void from any realism, but you still feel rather disconnected as there's just a little too much stuff you don't know. Just a better look at the situation and the relationships of the important people would've helped. The "big sister" remained a big question mark to me till the end and just felt like a horrible character. Why could she do what she did without anyone really caring or doing anything about it? Unless the main girl got pissed, than she had to backpaddle? So it can't be that they just can't touch her. This main girl also lacks a lot of background so you can understand her and perhaps root for her. I don't need a 5 hour flashback, but there was almost nothing here.
Part of all this lacking stuff may be explained in the "prequel", but why not have it part of the main-game if it's actually important enough? The dvd sure wasn't full yet.

The village side was much much better. Smaller in scale obviously, but you just got a fairly nice view of the characters, their troubles, how they proceed towards the future and about the main heroine of this side. You can get connected with her much easier than with the company's main heroine.

The route split was a little bit weirdly set, though the routes are awkward anyway. You don't know anything about the protag. He's a literal "who?". And suddenly you are supposed to buy the romance. Now, the romance is shit in many VNs with the protags just randomly switching from "don't care" to "love" when a route starts. At least this VN has an excuse for that: Only maybe 20% of the scene feature the protagonist. This was so weirdly done. Why wasn't he just a normal character like all others then?
In addition to that, I don't think Aya needed her own route, and the maid most definitely didn't need a route. This was a game with two heroines. Why tack the rest on? Aya having a branch together with Iroha is fine, solo it makes little sense, while the maid is just... there. If you'd want a third route, than I'd say a Nanoha with time-skip route would've made the most sense. AKA "fuck these two choices, I'll hide abroad", with Nanoha coming to search a few years later or whatever.

tl;dr: The story is alright, the presentation is pretty damn good, but you do feel like some things are missing. While some things can be considered fine (there's no need to talk about literally everything in depth, and enough eroge insert random ero-scenes), at least the company side feels in a few ways lacking, even if in my opinion the general direction and events of the game is fine and there was no need for additional 10 hours of company drama that'd probably end unrealistic anyway. This small scale infighting was just right. But there was just a little too much left in the dark. Including the "protag" you can hardly call a protag.

I wouldn't call the main male "protagonist" a protagonist due to how the VN was presented from different perspectives. Actually, it feels like the only protagonists here are the main female heroines. But yeah, the male MC doesn't have any character at all. He's mostly just there to serve as a plot device between the two families. Having the maid route as a non-main one makes sense because of her role in the prequel. I do agree with the company side lacking exposure. They should've had more scenes just enough to show you how "evil" or "bad" they are.

>Nanoha with time-skip route

>They should've had more scenes just enough to show you how "evil" or "bad" they are.

I don't think they are completely evil or bad. Part of them are, but it's a giant corporation with a "win" mentality. Which is why I was glad about the minor infighting and nothing super big, as that would've been pretty retarded. Some infighting for power will happen when important people "step down" and whatnot, but the company got to where it is for a reason. The people with the most power in it value success and ability, no matter how much they may be convinced of themselves. (at least the older ones) So mostly "small fry" trying to get something out of it in petty ways is pretty normal. Anything more... and I'm not so sure anymore.

What I wanted was a better picture for Julie, mostly. Where does she stand in the company? What kind of power does she have (and as such the protagonist)? What about her mother, her sisters and whatnot? How are her relations to the other parts of the company? How and why does she build up everything she does? Exactly what did she even build up so far in the first place?
In my opinion the problem was simply that you can't really put her into the grand picture to understand what she's doing and why. It feels all a bit.. arbitrary. The prequel probably gives more background, but that's probably not really settling the main issues here. (and again, why was it not included with the main-game if it was freely distributed before?) Iroha didn't have any of these problems, as the village's situation is easy to summarize and her own situation as well. Doubly so because it happens there and you get to know enough villagers to get a good idea.

>minor infighting
Which I was disappointed to because that was a big deal in the prequel.

>What I wanted was a better picture for Julie
I think the prequel explains her motivation enough especially at the end of it.

Do agree that they needed to put the prequel in the disc since it explains a lot about the company side.

Finished Amatsutsumi, skipping the side heroine routes cause I heard they're not important nor very good, plus they do get a lot of screen time in their own common route chapters kind of like in Eustia.

Overall quite a bit of a let-down, half because the premise led me to have wrong expectations and half because the individual dramas or characters simply weren't that interesting. After the first chapter with the protagonist just casually brainwashing himself a new family or punishing a random passerby who accidentally bumps into Kokoro I was expecting more of those kinds of antics teetering on outright amoral spurring from his innocence or overall a darker tone, but he turns out to become quite a regular nice guy way too early. The humor parts stemming from his lack of outside world's common knowledge also felt like they got dropped rather early on though I suppose the side heroine routes may have had more of those parts, but I didn't really get a good feel from any of the heroines to make me want to play through those. Kyouko and Mana's common route chapters in general were too similar with both suffering from guilt caused by accidentally leading a close person to their death.

Even the hyped up parts about the protagonist finally encountering someone he hates enough to want to kill them was pretty damn lukewarm, both the protagonist's reactions and real Hotaru's malice. There's actually a very, very similar character in completely another game, Bansenjin to be exact, but I think it was done much better there. Hotaru route in general didn't have that much going for it to set it apart from earlier chapters, just dilly dallying around a lot until the obvious reveal about her resetting memory, drama and then dilly dallying around some more until one of the two possible finales. And oh boy was her happy ending very fucking convenient.

The "plot" isn't too good, but the characters can be fun. If this wouldn't fall into "Japan can't into parody" territory, it'd be fairly easy to recommend.

I've been out of the loop for a long time, what's the best game to come out this year so far?
Also, how was the latest August game? Was it at least as good as Daitoshokan? I don't expect them to make another Eustia.

Istoria has a much more powerful scenario, while Chronobox is nice it's a lot more gimmicky in nature and lacks impact in comparison. I'd suggest both either way, though.

Man, Chapter 2 was damn good. Made my skin crawl like mad due to how suspenseful it was. And with that cliffhanger ending, too. I'm surprised by how enjoyable this game is. It looks like Chapter 3 will be a flashblack explaining how the dude got NTR'd, but I'd rather prefer to see what happens next.

Chapter 1 felt like a moege and Chapter 2 felt like a thriller. I really wasn't expecting to like this so much.

At the same time, though, it's hard for me to really sort my feelings on the game because I'm not sure if what the game is doing is at all unique, since I haven't played that many NTR games. I've heard that Anim NTR games have the same style of story structure but I'm not sure if it's done as well as it's done in this game.

Do all NTR games manage to create that suspenseful 'thriller movie' kind of feeling?

Well, I finished my first route of Axanael. It was pretty good, but nothing exceptional. I didn't really like this sex scene at the end, but oh well. I think I'll read the other routes as well, but there's one thing I'm not sure of. When will the scenes in the first row unlock for characters other than the one that got picked randomly when I first started playing?

One thing I really liked was the little scenes that you got when you quit the game while reading. It's just a shame that you have to quit the game while reading to get to them, since that's not something I normally do.
