Okina knows that Reimu's current job is too important to headhunt her as Okina's servant. Okina is officially a protector of Gensokyo, and it is not in her interest to turn the barrier shrine maiden into Okina's personal mind slave.

Eternity Larva is not really a fairy, but a god. She helped Cirno with the season barrier defence in the Extra Stage because Okina and Eternity are sworn enemies. >Don't be silly. Fortune Teller threatened Gensokyo's balance. Yukari MADE Gensokyo's balance.
It sounds like "balance" is whatever Yukari decides to be at any time she wanted to. And that literally meant Reimu takes orders from Yukari.

>> No.17474529

>>17474482
Yukari established Gensokyo as a haven for youkai; a land where humans never advance, so that Youkai aren't wiped out. Keep in mind, Maribel WAS human (or at least mostly; it's very possible that one of the Hearns got it on with a youkai a few hundred years ago), and she saw the need for Gensokyo to exist.

Humans in Gensokyo don't have the technology to survive on their own. They need the help of Youkai to overcome natural disasters and things like that. Youkai require humans to believe in them to exist. If one party does not pull their weight, both die out. Fortune Teller threatened the balance of Gensokyo because even if he did extensive research on youkai behavior, distanced himself from the human village, and lived a perfectly normal life as a youkai, many other humans would follow. Who WOULDN'T want to have a youkai's immortality? The average human sees youkai as the top of the food chain. They have power and immortality. Why wouldn't they want to take the easy way out and become a youkai as opposed to relentlessly train for years to achieve even a fraction of a youkai's natural power?

The Fortune Teller was a weak, young youkai. He was no threat to Yukari physically or mentally. Instead, he was a threat to everyone simply by existing.

Reimu has no particular fondness for youkai. She works for Gensokyo and its balance. It just so happens that Gensokyo's not-so-secret goal is to provide an environment for youkai and gods to thrive easier than in the Outside World.

I know it's a sophistic difference, but it's a rather important one when discussing Reimu's character or take on morality. To put it in simpler terms, Reimu doesn't care about speciesism or personal allegiances. All she cares about is Gensokyo's peace. She doesn't care what it is meant to achieve or enable, as that goes beyond her duties. She's the Hakurei shrine maiden, and she does what she is sworn to do. Nothing more, nothing less.

>I know it's a sophistic difference, but it's a rather important one when discussing Reimu's character or take on morality. To put it in simpler terms, Reimu doesn't care about speciesism or personal allegiances.
You don't get it. Reimu is already employed by Youkai. You can argue that she is just doing her job, but the problem is her job IS to help with the farming of humans. Saying "that is just her job, it isn't a moral issue" is not convincing anyone.

>> No.17474673

>>17474649
In the grander scheme of things, yes. Within Reimu's character, however, she doesn't care one way or the other. It's not her business. She's the peacekeeper of Gensokyo. It doesn't matter what Gensokyo is or does. The Hakurei shrine maiden is ordained to keep it peaceful, and that is what she does.

She's no more evil than a police officer in a country governed by corrupt individuals - except, I suspect, Reimu had even less of a choice in taking on the job. I don't think anyone's disputing Gensokyo being created for youkai and gods before humanity (if humanity is indeed a concern beyond providing the necessary faith - something I would say is true, but not very far); what matters is that Reimu doesn't care. Not in the "I don't give a fuck" way; rather, it's a complete devotion to her duties as the Hakurei shrine maiden. Nothing else matters but that.

It doesn't matter what's in her character or what she thinks about it. She's a tool of the system and works to preserve the balance in favour of the youkai. Yukari could do her job just as easily if not even easier but Reimu exists to make the humans happy. Her role is less peacekeeper and more human representative against the youkai threat (whom she is still on good terms with) so that the humans don't think they are completely controlled by youkai and instead have Reimu to fight against them. In reality Reimu is Yukaris puppet who does what Yukari wants and is only a figurehead for the humans to look to so they don't completely fall to despair about being controlled and killed by youkai.
You probably know all this however.

I think that YOU'RE the one that doesn't understand. Every single human has the potential to be leagues powerful than youkai

Let's take your farm animal analogy. Say that each human is a cow that's raised to provide their youkai farmers with the resources necessary to live. Now, say one of the cows found out that it could BECOME a farmer. The formerly-cow farmer promises that he will be peaceful to the other farmers and find a house far away from any cows to live in. Don't you think other cows realizing that they could become farmers would lead to an influx of farmers? Sooner or later, there would be too many farmers and not enough cows. The farmers die off from a lack of resources and the cows die because they now lack the protection from their farmers that they needed to survive.

Reimu did not kill the fortune teller because the youkai wanted to be a secret club and sicked her on him. She killed him because he had the potential to be that first cow that showed the rest that they could become something more, completely disrupting the balance.

>> No.17475191

It is very telling that the current Gensokyo arrangement, basically gave humans NOTHING.

What does Humans in the village gain from Gensokyo's continued operation? Just constant threats of being killed. At no point did we hear anything about Reimu serving the needs of humans. >Reimu's job is to make sure that humans never find out how they got a raw deal?
Honestly, they don't have a bad deal. They're mortal and aren't born powerful, but they're assured complete safety from youkai by Reimu and from nature itself by the youkai. They're legitimately safer in the human village than a human in our real world. This entire deal is explained in FS. Humans and youkai live in a symbiotic relationship, and if one of the symbiotes goes away, the other one does as well. Reimu's job is to make sure that neither side fails. If a human changes their role in a way that would cause other humans to change their roles as well, Reimu exterminates them. If a youkai ignores the rules regarding the human village or disobeys spell card rule, Reimu exterminates them. It goes both ways.

That's one of the many possible outcomes.
The other ones would be:
-Human village is wiped out by dumb youkai, both humans and youkai cease to exist
-Many humans turn into youkai, causing a lack of faith and creating many more young, less rational youkai (see a above)
-Humans train to become more powerful on average than youkai, causing youkai to fade away and Gensokyo to modernize, defeating the entire point of Gensokyo
-An incident ravages Gensokyo without any way to stop it
-Yukari finds a new miko (most likely option)
-Ect

For someone that found out how to become a youkai, he is pretty fucking dumb.

No, that's literally not true. He ends his speech with "Surely a youkai shrine maiden can understand" because he thinks that he is a youkai now and that means she is on his side. But he's not, because he explicitly broke Gensokyo's code. Which, as has been stated repeatedly in the FS thread, Yukari verifies at the end of the manga.

She's not the god, she's just a nosy old hag of some importance. It's already been confirmed that there is a god in the shrine, but those who know it don't tell Reimu who it is, and others know that it's pissed off cause Reimu is, frankly, a horrible shrine maiden.

Of course she'd deal with people who try to touch the shrine, as well as claim she controls it. Her job is to take care of the Great Hakurei Barrier, guess what location is the linchpin of that thing. As for the orbs, I don't see why a person who is able to do weird ass shit with borders in order to go to the moon through its reflection in the water wouldn't be able to also do something weird in order to touch the Yin Yang orbs.

There's a fundamental flaw in all these arguments about Gensokyo natives: they assume that the natives have some problem with the arrangement. They don't. They're perfectly fine with it. Though they fear youkai, they also party with them and go where they're not supposed to often. They're adventurous. They're peaceful. They're countryfolk who know about advanced technology but don't want or need it. They do not care, and they don't want things to change. When there was a small group clamoring about youkai oppression, everyone else thought those people were being stupid. There's an article on that specific case in, I believe, BAiJR.

So, what does Reimu do for the humans in Gensokyo? She maintains what they consider "normal". They may not like her, or her shrine, as both are surrounded by monsters, but she otherwise keeps the peace for these peaceful and silly fucks. You recall when Miko came to Gensokyo claiming that the humans needed a leader? Everybody disagreed. They don't need one, nor do they want one.

Yuuka might also be a dimension hopper, if PC-98 is still somewhat canon, so there's plenty we don't know about her. That said, my personal theory based off that same game (PoFV) is that Yuuka is actually a transcended fairy. Shiki Eiki warns Cirno in her route that if she continues to grow too powerful, she will eventually become a youkai and thus mortal. In Yuuka's route, we learn that she's mortal but she's lived too long. Her power is also extremely fairy-like, as fairies can cause flowers to bloom. If she used to be a fairy like Cirno, obsessed with power, it makes a lot of sense to me that she'd eventually become a youkai and lose her immortality. She's also just as whimsical and prone to "teasing"/"pranks" as a fairy. Okina also talks about how when she saw Cirno in stage 6 she thought she was witnessing the start of a new era with this stupidly overpowered fairy. If Yuuka's really fucking old, maybe another era had started with her.

Just because we're not told about them doesn't mean they don't exist. We didn't know about the yamanba living in Youkai Mountain and there they are. This goes double for the lake of blood, it was drained during the LLS incident, of course it's not there now.
>The yin yang orbs

We've gotten a pretty extensive look at Gensokyo in the side works, with Akyuu touring the place, and I think it'd be odd for her to neglect mentioning a portal to the netherworld behind the shrine and a lake of blood. Even an empty spot for a lake would be something everyone could see, like a crater, but there's none. There's just misty lake.

And frankly I always find it fucking bizarre that some fans cling to "WELL MAYBE IT'S THERE" when ZUN himself tried to wipe the slate clean, tries not to bring up PC-98, only said "if it doesn't contradict I guess it's canon" after actual years of pestering, and doesn't sell the games even though it would be a simple matter to do so. Nice stutter quote, it really highlights the strength of your argument.

And nice going to insult me for some reason. What'd I do to you? For the record, I'm pretty sure the Shining Needle Castle was summoned/discovered by Seija and Shinmyoumaru prior to the incident. I could be wrong, but I don't really think there's any evidence against that claim. It's kind of like the Palaqin Ship which suddenly appeared after hell was opened.

And it's not that he doesn't care either way. For the fuck of it I looked into all that he had to say a while ago, and rather than not caring, it seems more like he did care and didn't want to think about his first very amateur steps as a creator. You know, like most artists, writers, and musicians? He kept the name and the numbers as a throwback and even put in a little bit of fanservice to start but also flatly denied connection. Said "please just think of this as a new start", because it was, but fans pestered him until he said "fine, whatever".

Why should the creator's intentions be ignored? Because you're a touchy cunt?

Again, why are you so touchy? You're not even right. The "world of the oni" has never been equated to the underground. Oni do live in the underground, but why would you think that's their "world"? Especially given the oni originally left of their own volition unrelated to the sealing of old hell and unwanted youkai. It's not like that's their "world". you think me stating the objective fact that ZUN's first few games weren't things he thought very hard about is an insult

even though he wiped the slate clean
asked people to forget about it
stopped selling them
refuses to directly refer to any of it in any extra material
pretends it doesn't exist
placated fans like yourself who kept bothering him about it by saying I guess if it's not contradicting you can believe in those old games I made when I was in college as experiments before I got a little more serious

Also you've basically said fuck what ZUN thinks by saying "b-but ZUN" in some incredibly childish manner and then saying he doesn't really get specific about details in the setting even though he absolutely does, a lot, and often in books, interviews, manga, compilations, story for the games, character profiles, and text about his development of the game included in each game.

I don't get you. You're one huge, irritating faggot,

>Shiki Eiki warns Cirno in her route that if she continues to grow too powerful, she will eventually become a youkai and thus mortal.
That is not what she says. She tells Cirno that even immaterial aspects of nature (like the sound of a bird singing) can die away, and as such there's no immortality in the natural world, and thus Cirno might be able to fuck up enough that she won't be able to regenerate using the power of nature. It's not a matter of becoming mortal, it's a matter of supposedly non-mortal things still being able to die. She was warning cirno that she might bite off more than she can chew one day. (Sort of like how Narumi said she should have been able to delete Cirno under other circumstances.)

Oh boy, here we go.
For me, I think she can make somebody as powerful as she wants, but I don't know if she can do it to herself. Still, being a sage probably implies that she is at least as strong as Kasen who is an oni or even as strong as Yukari. Also, she seems to be the closest thing Gensokyo has to a "traditional" god in a sense that she is plenty of things according to her backstory. You can say she's the most godlike-god in a similar way Yukari is the most Youkai-like-youkai. But do note that this is my opinion and ZUN will probably take it all down anyway with a magazine article or a manga chapter.

Yes. The Hata clan worships Matara-jin as Hata no Kawakatsu, who is in fact the missing link that didn't show up in the Religious War arc that connects the Taoists, the Buddhists, and even the Moriyas.

In fact this entire game is made of characters that should have been introduced earlier which is the actual unifying theme. Etarnity as Cirno and Letty's Summer counterpart. Nemuno as a regular Youkai Mountain resident. Aunn who had been living at the shrine since fucking EoSD. Narumi as one of Marisa's friends (who's not Reimu or somebody she steals books from). And finally Matara as somebody who really should have shown up back in HM due to her significance as Kawakatsu and also completes the trinity of Founder Sages.

Okina is a really weak design on her own. ZUN would have pushed her either way, like he did with Yukari. And then he'd have introduced the top tier design that is Yukari in a later game, making her instantly popular. The Maribel theory would also be much more impactful.

He isn't suppose to be worshipped generally, he is the temple guard so he doesn't get his own temple. That's what makes him a "hidden" god. There are some other deities that are also suppose to be him, and they are worshipped, but Matarajin just isn't worshipped himself.

Interestingly there WAS a Matarajin Temple once. Apparently they became obsessed with life and death, and tried to study the cycle. But at some point it turned into a rather strange sect that had people started ritually FUCKING the head priestess, right in the middle of the temple.

At some point the entire sect was classified as Buddhist Heresy and shut down. The scriptures they used were confiscated and burnt, and the entire sect later officially got banned.

What are you talking about anon?

Okina have +50 fanarts in pixiv now, and have +40 in danbooru, considering the time, it's more fanarts that Junko or Hecatia have in the same time.

Was she easy on purpose in extra stage?

>Was she easy on purpose in extra stage?
Extra Stage had ALWAYS been easier than Lunatic difficulty. This is because the stage is meant to be playable for people who play on other difficulties other than Lunatic.

Her extra stage was easier than most others because it's the direct continuation of the game's story.

Really? I remember there being lots of new Junko and Heca fanart within days of LoLK's release. At least more than Okina.

A combination of these two. This time around, you could unlock the extra stage on easy, so the challenge of the extra stage was also ramped down accordingly.
I'm sure it feels like a stage 7 if you can consistently 1cc normal, instead of a proper superboss stage.

It is also a plotpoint that the sub weapon by default is designed for EX. If you tried to play EX with standard season sub weapons it would have been impossible other than Spring. (Spring and/or Reimu has seeker shots that can fire backwards)

Normally what happens is that your choice of weapon can make your EX run harder. But in this case everyone get a good custom sub weapon that shoots backwards.

Reimu still likely get an advantage though, as her normal shot isn't wasted because it can help kill enemies coming from below.

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Ran, is in fact, Fox/Ran, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, Fox plus Ran. Ran is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning Fox system made useful by the fox corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many Shikigami users run a modified version of the Fox system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of Fox which is widely used today is often called “Ran”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the Fox system, developed by the Yakumo Project. There really is a Ran, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
