Has there ever been a song as good as hers?

Her Stage 6 > Extra for me.
Anyway, I think the soundtrack is some kind of reverse LoLK (For me at least) in a sense that the boss themes are way more interesting than the stage themes.

I like the EX over the stage 6 theme, but the stage 6 theme is still good.

I admit, I almost cried at 2:35

This is one of the most beautiful pieces in Touhou history

I'm not really feeling it. It's very nice, but I honestly just think it's kind of lacking. My favorite was probably the stage 4 theme.
Perhaps I just have bad taste.

I really hate the guitar sound he started using in DDC. Necrofantasia flows much better after the beginning. The descending thing near the beginning is good new harmonic territory

I really didn't like it at first, but the more I listen the more I listen the more I like it. That's been happening a lot for me this game, actually. I think it's because ZUN dialed back the emphasis on distinct, iconic melodies and relied more on good overall composition.

ZUN reuses similar things pretty often. True Administrator's piano opener was already extremely reminiscent of Demystify Feast. Stage 4 and Okina's stage 6 theme use the same melody as well.

>> No.17463463

I think the opening is a bit too reminiscent of Junko's theme, but beside that it's pretty good. I'm not a fan of the awful synth guitar ZUN keeps using, though. Hope he drops it soon.

>> No.17463656

The EX theme is shit, the depressing piano is out of place and it doesn't feel final enough, not to mention the spellcards in the stage and the fight were complete shite and lazy as fuck. The last spell is just a non-spell with donuts, the survival is fucking nemuno's first card with a lazer. All in all I'm fine with re-facing the final boss but this extra feels like baby's first fangame

On an unrelated note, I find it cool how ZUN can kinda balance the OST in terms of half of it being feel-good/light and happy and the other half being creepy and edgy and atmospheric/

>> No.17467245

I don't know I didn't find HSiS soundtrack that good, it might just be because i don't find that the tools used for recording it goes well with the overall atmosphere I felt the themes were trying to create.

i was pleasantly surprised by the music of stages 4-ex after hating most of the trial music
zun still has the capability of making songs as good as the ones from eosd to ufo, he just needs to do it more

I'm in love with her Extra theme. I still have some songs that I prefer over hers but this is definitely one of my favorites now.

Things just don't sound the same anymore, and I'm pretty sad about this. Things are different now. That's why I don't await for new music anymore, didn't hype for his 2 new solo albums...

I finally understand what it is about her theme(s) that bothers me so much: they're really fucking short. I mean, compare Junko's theme to them for example, her one kind of loops once then gets even more intense before looping for good at about 6 minutes, while both of Okina's themes are only about 3 minutes long, which is pretty unusual for a final boss as far I can remember.

>> No.17476882

You can improve them by replacing the drums with the ones from late pcb to ufo.
Hell, you can even use lolk's drumkit in hsifs and it'd sound much better.

I actually like Post-UFO music better that older tracks, but all of them are great i their own right.

I think the problem people see is that newer tracks aren't as "remixeable" as older ones.

>> No.17485904

I'm not a big fan of the NToJ electric guitars and I prefer ZUNpets to UFO sax, but other than that, I have no complaints. I probably enjoyed White Traveller in general more than any other of the game songs that he's made in the past few years.

>> No.17485950

>>17485838
His music is getting more complex, and there's been 16 years since EoSD. There's been time for the older games to gain traction, which can't be said about his new generation of games. There was also a big Touhou boom around 10 years ago, so the windows games that were out at the time got popular.

Touhou is gaining popularity in Japan's youth very quickly. I feel like the newer content will get much more appreciation in around a decade. Today's young Touhou fans will look at Okina or Clownpiece in ways similar to how we would look at Yukari or Cirno when they grow older.

I really liked DBOA, I'm glad to see other people talking about it. It must have been fun for ZUN to make more music about a bar, I don't think he's done that since Uwabami Breakers.
