What it's trying to represent is the fight against modern impurity - that the world would be a much better place if the vulgar were removed; the removing of a hand which portrays a middle finger represents the removal of vulgarity.

But the splinter doesn't represent these things; the splinter represents that people become vulgar because of ways they are treated or ways that are taught to them. That with help, anyone can be taught to live a happy lifestyle amongst others in a comfortable environment.

The wheels are an imaginary fignant of our imaginations - the hopes that people we view as "assholes" were to befall a tragic accident in order to solve the problem. However, in this symbolic reference, they represent rehabilitation by some means.

In other words, don't judge a book by its cover, but if the book truly has terrible contents, maybe you should attempt to write over it and create a better novel.
