Hey guys so I heard this is a Touhou board. I am new to Touhou.

How do I kill Patchuly?

How do I pronounce 'Touhou', is it 'toe - hoe', or 'too - hoo'?

No spoilers please.

1. Bomb if you think you might be close to getting hit. You waste all your bombs when you die, so when you're new, it's better to overbomb than underbomb.
2. Toe-hoe

Which is the best bomb? I find that if I don't chose Remu's honing missiles I get fucked in stage 3.

If it's 'toe-hoe', why is it abbreviated to '2hu'?

Is 6 a bad game to start with?

Get IN /jp/. These people are all secondaries. If you don't play the games, then you MUST get out of /jp/. As for your questions:

1. Play Touhou until your eyeballs fall out and then you will be good at dodging shit

2. The correct pronunciation is to-ho, with short o sounds, but it sounds autistic and most people (myself included) say toe-hoe.

You also asked which games to play first. I find EoSD extremely difficult and I don't think it's a good first choice. PCB and IN (7 and 8) are easier and are a better introduction to the series in my opinion.

Why do people say 8 is easy? I started with 6 and found it easier than 7 or 8.
IN has a ton more bullets than other games, it's deathbomb system is unique/bad because it's easier to deathbomb and that teaches bad habits also it's rather expensive, focus/unfocus making a huge difference on your score and time (continues, new guys will play focused for 90% of the time). EoSD does not have anything like it, and your hitbox being invisible is not that big of a deal if you take a look at other games and remember it's actually way smaller than it looks. Alternatively you can download a hitbox patch for that, but I don't recommend doing this.

>>17240665
Just in case you haven't figured things out yet, the board is "otaku culture". Basically what this means we discuss anything japan related, mostly touhou, but not exclusively. Tons of threads dedicated to certain characters and other stuff like that. Pay no attention to it. It's all secondary, only primary things are the games, manga, and discussion of those two.
Lurk more. Post less. Try to understand on your own first.
Thread you're looking for is here >>17169336
General tips
Bomb if you think you're in trouble. You will have your chance to fine hone your micrododging when you use all of your bombs, that's the time to take small risks and dodge like a madman.
Try to understand who does what, you can dodge many bullets by slightly moving out of the way. Your hitbox is like 3x3 pixels. Sometimes they target you, sometimes they fire fixed patterns, take advantage of that.
Do use continues, you will need a lot of practice for last bosses, and doing 5 perfect stages to die in seconds on stage 6 is not really helpful.
Focus is really helpful, do that, but don't overdo. Some attacks are best dodged by dashing into the other half of the screen instead of trying to squeeze yourself between multiple bullets.
Technically speaking, you can dodge everything without losing a single bomb or a single life, but that's hard. Try to plan out when you bomb, and when to keep emergency bombs.
Take breaks from time to time.
Patches can be quite tough or quite easy, it all depends on who you're using. Marisa A will have a different set of spellcards to dodge than Marisa B or Reimu A. IIRC the easiest ones are thrown out for both Marisas.
Or you can pick Reimu A, that's like the standard mode of touhou. No worries about the boss, you just focus on the bullets.

Technically, charged attacks are not bombs. Bombs are when you press X and lose all your charge. There's no reason to bomb in PoFV unless you found yourself in a bad spot you can't escape from or sacrifice a second for lv.2 charge. Similar thing is in PoDD, where you have only two bombs.
And what I meant is that if you know your way, as in KNOW your way, you don't need to bomb at all.

In normal games, bomb is a spellcard, that immediately clears screen and deals damage. Sort of a panic button.
In PoFV, a bomb immediately clears screen and launches an attack at the enemy. The panic button, since you even get a slight punishment for it.
A spellcard in PoFV does everything said above, with one exception. The word "immediately". There's the difference. It's an attack, you don't need to save yourself to launch it. Or at least, this is what I think makes sense.
Besides my original point was that PoFV features a high level of randomness, and that can't really fall under knowing your route and bombing it. Instead of tackling that you're discussing what's a bomb and what isn't.
There's not enough Deus Ex/Touhou crossovers.

You said technically. So yes, technically a bomb is a full charge attack. The immediate effect is another thing. Technically speaking of course.

Right, it clears the screen but technically there's still a delay. No other game features a delay on bomb, it always instantly saves your behind as soon as you press a button. In PoFV you can muck that up by pressing the button to charge up and dying before you hit lv2.
Spellcard is a spellcard, an attack is an attack, a bomb is a panic button. Refer to my original post explaining what charge attacks in PoFV are.

OP, EoSD is not a bad game to start, but I would recommend starting from LLS, it's easy and gives you a ton of resources. Underbombing, something that beginners are often guilty of, is also not penalized as heavily as you only get 2 bombs for every life (+bomb extends). There are also no annoying gimmicks to teach new players bad habits or make the game nearly unplayable, like in IN.
After LLS (or likely during it), MS and EoSD should be your next games and after that there really is no wrong way to proceed.
Best bombs depend on the game, but Marisa's Master Spark is often a strong contender for it (except in PCB due to Marisa having fewer bombs than the other two). Another character who usually has a strong bomb is Sanae.
