Old thread seems dead, so let's have a new one.
Late as fuck, but here's my loot. The lonely CD is by Marasy, signed by him. The daki cover is by Ikuta Takanon/Hinaprin.
And yes, the Kokoro fumo mask in the middle is signed by ZUN.

These are all the books I got. A few of those are signed by the artists (like the Monety one on the cover).

No, bought mine here, Alice model White Gold limited edition color: http://eyemirror.jp/reitaisai/
Went to their store a few days before to try some models on myself. I always ogled that model, and luckily it looked good on me. As it was on sale only at Reitaisai I lined up at their booth first time I got in.

Which one did you get, if I may ask?
I tried the Tenshi one, it is really nice with the rainbow pattern but is too "heavy" on the front with the near-black thick frame. Tried the Yuuka and Komeiji ones for the sake of it, but they're too feminine. The guy at the store agreed with me, and insisted for me to try the Reimu one, which is of course not good for me.
In the end the Alice one is good for "unisex" purposes. Even the original author of the designs/doujins, Nabeshima Tetsuhiro, was wearing a bronze Alice model when I met him at Reitaisai. He was happily surprised seeing me wearing the Byakuren model.

>> No.17054127

Byakuren. I would like to see their store and the various models the next time I'm over there - later this year maybe. I quite liked the Kaguya ones too, but I just ended up buying some Oliver Peoples ones from an outlet store for cheap. They really are more suited for girls. I think if I could get the Nue ones for cheap enough though I would go in on them as they're a bit more unisex while still remaining interesting and different enough from my current pair.

Those are shikishi. Yes, some artists have those drawn beforehand for sale. Less famous/busy artists can also draw live, I've seen a bunch of them busy drawing in the last 2 hours of the event.
The lower one in my picture is by Ao of circle でじでぃば. He had it for sale for 1000 yen, but gifted it to me after I asked him to sign the book (closing time was also approaching). The other one is by Bety of circle Binmalo, he drew it for me on request.

May I ask if you know if they sell those glasses internationally/online or do you have to visit the store in person?

Because I really like the look of them, would you need the store to fit prescription lenses as well?

>> No.17096772

>>17096220
Quite the opposite. Those glasses are on display in their store, where you can try those on yourself. But they're not on sale there, the store has its online shop, proxy/forwarder required as they don't ship overseas: http://www.eyemirror-mailorder.jp/
However the glasses are only available as preorders when they announce a new release, usually producing only the latest models. Sometimes they might open preorders for older models too, but I'm not sure. They were accepting preorders during March for the latest batch, #7, with the Patchouli and Sakuya models. They gave me a leaflet at Reitaisai announcing the #8 batch coming soon, with the Keine and Mokou models.
They also have a partnership with Tokyo Otaku Mode, where you can place your preorder during the same preorder time frame as their store: https://otakumode.com/search?mode=shop&category=&keyword=touhou+megane
Looks like a few older models are still available there though, if you like.

Moreover, regarding the one I got, it's a special color limited edition only available at events like Reitaisai, not online. So that one might be quite difficult or expensive to get. Professional scalpers loot those at events to sell at 2x the price on Yahoo Auctions, I'm pretty sure I had one of those right in front of me when I was in line at Eyemirror's booth, he had a printed list with things to buy which was too long for him to be a simple otaku.

As for prescription lenses, the glasses are always shipped with cheap plastic placeholders meant to be replaced with lenses of your choice (even neutral ones if you don't need prescription) before use. After buying you can take them to the Eyemirror store, or to any glasses store everywhere and have correct lenses fitted.

Thank you that explanation cleared up a lot I needed to know.

I've come across TOM before but wasn't sure if it was a official partnership and they do sell for quite a bit more expensive than the official price from what I've seen.

More of a general question since you've had first hand experience but how is the build quality on the frames compared to regular cheap and higher end eyewear you'd buy from the high street/opticians?

Would you say the price reflects the quality of the build/materials? Or more the limited availability/novelty design element making them more costumewear?

Not him, but I have the other Byakuren ones. I would say they are good quality, they're better than the previous ones I had and I wore them for about 2 years without issue. TOM is the official supplier to overseas buyers, but I just used a proxy when I ordered mine. The price of them is a little more than what I would expect to pay for frames where I live, but all of our optometry stores are overpriced anyway. Worth buying, just make sure you consider what suits you - how feminine, soft etc your face is. I get the impression these would look awful on someone with facial hair.

>>17103381
I have been wearing the Byakuren model for the last 3 years, everyday as I'm near sighted. The build quality is very good, doesn't look cheap at all. Doesn't come as a surprise, as Eyemirror is a fashion glasses shop, not an otaku related shop. They have a showcase with all their Touhou Megane (pic related), but most of the store is about fashion glasses. According to their site, to create Touhou Megane they partnered with Sign, a glasses frames manufacturer known for their line Less than Human, and their goal was not to produce "character goods" (cheap made items to cater to otaku) but real everyday use glasses, just like any other frames you can buy at optical stores.

I paid 14500 yen (plus fees and shipping) for the Byakuren model 3 years ago, and 18000 yen now for the Alice one (limited edition, the bane of every wallet), which is about € 120 and € 140 respectively. Where I live good brands frames start from € 80-120 and major brands can easily go up to € 280, so considering the build/material quality is good I'd say they're not really expensive.

tl; dr They're made to be used everyday like any other good glasses frames.

>>17103408
Yes. I don't agree with >>17054127, saying they're too feminine. The front is very light with the rimless frames, and the temples, though quite thick, are almost transparent. I believe they're one of the most unisex design among Touhou Megane. The latest Sakuya ones are very similar.

>The latest Sakuya ones are very similar.
For a second I thought you were talking about the Monocle, which actually I do like and could think of scenarios I'd use it as I don't particularly like wearing my glasses despite needing them.

But yeah the new Sakuya model is pretty nice, only issue I could see is that it is rimless and a lot of high street opticians I know won't help you with fixing prescription lenses to rimless models.

>>17103719
>tl; dr They're made to be used everyday like any other good glasses frames.
Pretty much all I ask for.

I do think Rinnosuke and Nue models also look pretty nice, Kourin's is a bit plain but sturdy looking.

>> No.17103987

>>17103810
Yeah the Monocle is the most peculiar one. Fun fact: after the first batch with the obvious Reimu and Marisa models, which sold out like hotcakes, they had a poll on their website: "Which model (among the ones depicted at the time on the Touhou Megane doujinshi series) would you like us to make next?". First place was Alice's, second was the monocle and third Byakuren's. They then announced the Alice and Byakuren models as their 2nd batch, apologizing for skipping the Monocle as it was too complex to make.
A few months later they posted on their blog "About the Sakuya model, the Monocle... we're working on it".

>a lot of high street opticians I know won't help you with fixing prescription lenses to rimless models
My optician too said they don't fix rimless lenses themselves, but instead they send the frames to the lens manufacturer and have them do the work (as they did). Isn't something like this possible in your country?

That is true for all opticians that they send everything off to a warehouse for lens fitting. But from what I understand of rimless compared to frames is they aren't always uniform with different hinges/lens shapes making it hard to fit potentially giving you wonky glasses. So most business can only accommodate models they specifically stock.

Of course they could simply be lying through their teeth but who knows, maybe if I asked around a bit more I'd get a hit.

Those new Sakuya glasses really do look really nice.

>>17103987
>A few months later they posted on their blog "About the Sakuya model, the Monocle... we're working on it".
The tragedy of it is the ornamental Rose version no longer seems to be in stock which is the really nice looking one.

The plain version honestly looks kind of naked and looks kinda like a hanging wire. I suppose there isn't really much hope of them doing a re-issue of it either with how small these production runs are from the sounds of what you say.

Also I could see getting a lens for it being kinda a pain, Monocle lenses are actually quite rare. Even rarer would be that I would need a distance lens and Monocles are traditionally for reading.

>>17104085
I wanted the rose monocle when it showed up - I periodically check their website and blog - but thought it would look too 'classy gentleman'. If you'll excuse the /v/ trope, a sterotypical fedora type. I get the impression they would suit a wealthy person who dresses exclusively in dark formalwear and avant garde clothing, or a cosplaying, lolita or mori girl, but nothing really outside of that.

>> No.17104290

>>17104109
There is that stigma I guess which makes the regular one better for normal wear.

Funnily enough these days the most common monocle users tend to be chefs and the like who work in fast paced environments rather than high society.

Reason being is glasses are terrible things to wear in those situations and they even get in the way being so big and you can have a monocle hanging off a chain to just pop in to read notes now and again.

Thank you for the detailed responses. Can you comment on the size of the frames? One guy complained on TOM in a review that they seem like they were fitted for Asian female heads, but from the measurements given on TOM they don't seem to be particularly small. European male with perhaps slightly larger than average head here, currently wearing glasses that are just short of 140mm wide.

I'm a white EUfag, and have been at C64 and C76 years ago, and Reitaisai 14 recently. Never had any bad experience, quite the opposite. To tell the truth I brought some small presents to a bunch of authors, but all of them were very happy to hear "Hello, I'm from -insert EU country- and I'm a big fan of your works". Women and less known circles were the happiest. Sometimes I also got some goods for free.
The vast majority of Japanese people are not really racist. I believe most of them might be "scared" when they see foreigners only because they fear the language barrier. If you approach just with a few Japanese words, it's usually enough for them to overcome any shyness. Granted, if you're black you'll stick out like a sore thumb, but don't worry and go enjoy the convention. 99.9% will be alright, there's little chance you'll encounter the occasional asshole.

The Byakuren model is 130mm wide (measuring the space between temples right behind the lenses). EU male with slightly smaller than average head here, they fit perfectly. The Sakuya one, which is similar, is stated to be 136. Both have rimless design, so I believe you might have them fitted with a slightly larger lens if they're small for you.

The Alice model is 140mm wide, with the temples pointing more inwards so they fit snugly without feeling too small.

Thanks, 140mm for the Alice model sounds pretty good, that's the one I'm most interested in anyways. >> No.17139552

>>17138437
It's a gamble, really. I'm pretty sure they had a rerun of all models once, but was back again when they were still at #2 or #3 edition, so they had at most 6 models for preorder. Now they're at #7, meaning 14 models have been produced (plus the monocle, Rinnosuke and Sumireko ones). There's a chance they'll never rerelease those again.

As for resorting to YAJ, I'd say depends on which color you like most. Original ones were bronze and antique silver, a couple bronze ones are available on YAJ, of course for a higher price (19-20k instead of 15k). The 20k one is from a previous Reitaisai and has the wonderful book-like glasses case (why did they discontinue it?!?), also accepts bargaining, might be worth it.
The limited edition colors (white gold, platinum and matte black) are only sold at events, so unless you plan to go to Reitaisai in the future buying off YAJ is your only option. There's a white gold available for 22k instead of 18k, not really cheap but they're so beautiful it might be worth it.

There's no simple single answer. Every website you can find with a large selection of available covers is a bootleg store, stealing artworks and providing average to shitty quality products.
If you want the highest quality you need to buy doujin covers, which are usually only available at events or mail order for short time frames. More info here, should be still valid for most links: https://pastebin.com/ECRgxz6u

Also, learn to use proper punctuation. Thank you.

It... was kind of a disappointment, to be honest. From the sample pages I thought it would be something great, like Hasegawa's Sakuya doujins or that Ke-ta's one with the naked apron, and I somewhat enjoyed both the "plot" and the art until p.22, but those dumb faces at the end ruined it for me. Not my cup of tea, totally. Well, I still managed to utilize the page where they do it like animals (21) and after that deleted the folder with a shrug.
