Kigurumi (着ぐるみ) is a kind of costuming where the player wears a full body skin suit (called hadatai) along with an anime mask. The Japanese word "kigurumi" refers to any kind of full-body costume, but in this thread we're specifically looking for anime masks combined with skin-toned bodysuits - properly known as "animegao" kigurumi.

Actually, that chapter proved to me, that the story lack one thing. It lack mystery of identity, Namikawa is the first person that had that feeling - he didn't know who is inside dolls, but it doesn't in the story show well - how ppl in the mansion feel about identity of Reina.
I think it was funnier if Satoru put Namikawa inside Reina. He liked Reina and I wanted to see his reaction if he turned to object of his adore. And…

Yeah, the mysterious feeling is one of my favorites thing about kig. However, I don't think you need to be completely clueless about who inside the suit for it to work. You just need a feeling of uncertainty.

In "Kigurumi maid" they're alway wearing their respective kig, so the mysterious feeling about identity is largely lost. But I think it's would be great If they exchange their kig sometime.

For example, Imagine a chapter narrated by someone else. In which they noticed Reina acts a bit differently. Throughout the chapter, there're also subtle hints about Mai absent, Mitsuaki also acting strange, Nanoha being awfully quiet, etc... So you would start to wonder, Is it really Satoru inside Reina, and others as well.

The important thing is to keep it vague, as just outright say they're switching suit wouldn't be as good imo.

Curiosity, because I had both random and bizarre idea about cosplay before i found kigurumi. If the idea of cosplay is to be a character that you like, maybe people will start selling "anime mask" instead of accessory or costumes so that any cosplayers can be an anime character regardless of their physique. That idea has been answered by kigurumi in general.

Christ, I can't even remember exactly. Back when I was first exploring my fetishes (2009 or 2010) it was such a clusterfuck of so many different things (fursuits, mummification, zentai, dollification, mannequinization/encasement, tf/tg, plain ol' crossdressing) that I'm not sure when kig got involved. I discovered kig when I found the Wikipedia article in 2004 or 2005 (Natsuki's Naru was the first kig I saw; this picture was on Wikipedia back then, but has long since been deleted from there). Shortly after that, I found Rabbit in the Moon's forum, and I also found Wyu's forum shortly after he started it in 2006. However, it wasn't until 2009 when I actually decided I wanted to kig, and I just lurked on both until then. Once I decided I wanted to kig I also knew I wanted to make my own masks and I also knew I wanted to use some kind of digital process (initially I thought of using a CNC mill to make a mold, and then decided on FDM 3D printing shells directly, but I ran into several problems after making a few masks that way, so I switched to my current process of SLA 3D printing molds for FRP shells). I couldn't actually do anything towards getting a kig of my own until I moved out in 2012 (I lived with my rather conservative parents until then). I did think of buying a mask from Wyu at that point, but I decided to just jump straight into making my own, and finished my first mask in early 2013 (becoming the first person to make a kig mask using a process based on 3D printing as far as I know), getting into full kig for the first time immediately after I finished her. My first commission and first time kigging at a con (Otafest 2013) came shortly after that.

I'm quite possibly one of the oldest kig fans here. My name isn't important. To be honest kigs is one of my interests as it revolves around one core fetish: TG masks. I got into it off of maskon.com as well. I first started getting interested in gender swapping from Ranma 1/2 in library manga sections, masks from Di Caprio's extreme acting in Man in the Iron mask (but not in as much into the permanent encasement), then seeing a Hillary Clinton mask at a friend's house. I was mostly talking about the meme definition but I am quite familiar with actual autism as my father specialises in it and I do genuinely believe there's a significant overlap considering how some of them hold conversations

on the other hand it could be that this hobby just attracts people who are socially inept because of upbringing, I think a decent amount of people in this hobby are partially in it because they're insecure and trying to escape from themselves if you will.
