1695037 No.1695037 [Reply] [Original]

I'm a bit interested in playing BMW, but as it is a japanese SRPG, im not looking forward to the endless grinding that usually accompanies these types. Though, I do not mind it that much.

What I do worry about though is what I see to be the problem in the leveling system, as it seems all upgrade points seem to be shared by all your characters. This would make it extremely easy to gimp yourself by boosting useless characters, and/or useless abilities.

Is there a general strategy on who are good characters to use, and what abilities, skills, and weapons are worth upgrading?

>> No.1695058

>>1695037
Yes, there is.

Would you like me to write a guide on it?

>> No.1695070

Also, it's not really grinding. Ever play Super Robot Wars? Battle Moon Wars is that with Touhou characters. Hell, there's mecha parody enemies all over the place. Anyways, there's no real grinding because it's stage by stage progession, no going back.

>> No.1695196

>>1695070

yeah, im aware that its not really grinding, thats why its so much more easier for you to gimp yourself on poor decisions.

Game is more of how to make certain characters suck less then which characters are good.
You can generally get through 3/4th of the game while getting all the battle masteries with minimal upgrades.
However, if you really want to know what skill you definitely want then SP regen on all characters and Attack and Run on all the characters who can't move then attack.

Patches for the game can be found here, along with any other bit of information you may need, including character tiers.

There's no grinding, it's impossible to go back to previous stages. You can, however, fail stages on purpose in order to redo the battle and keep experience and items obtained.

Leveling system works. I don't see problems with it, and it's not that hard of a game.

That being said, I fucking hate Shiki during the early levels. Durring most of the stages, if he dies, it's fucking game over. It doesn't help that he has low defense early on, so one hit from bosses and he's dead. He becomes top tier later on, when his damage output increases and agility goes up.

>> No.1695241

BMW isn't hard, at all.

You don't really need a guide or anything, just use your favorite characters. Hell half the levels choose characters for you anyway (or deploy like 3/4 the cast).

The only way it's hard is if you get all the battle mastery's and don't upgrade at all.

yea, basically shirou sucks unless you pump a bunch of stats into him. He REALLY SUCKS before his upgrade. Afterwards, he can do damage... if you give him tons of potential and guard, somehow get him down to like 10% hp and watch mobs hit him for 10 dmg while he smacks back.

the problem is if you're on super path, you can have sacchin do the same thing for decidedly less upgrade points.

Here's a question, what are the general "classes" in this game?

Like Attacker/DPS, tank, healer/buff/support, long range artillery. Who usually fits for that class, and what should be the party layout.

>> No.1695618

>>1695521

I would say classes could be divided into power units, speed based, tanks, long range attack, and support.
However, this may be a misrepresentation of the game. Lines between concepts of classes are blurred due to the fact that everyone has their own special abilities and attributes. Akiha, for example, has long range attacks and negates damage less than 1000, and Hisui has high defense while auto defending adjacent units while also having healing and support abilities. It's up to the player whether they want to focus on any unit's particular attributes or to even out the party.

As for the party layout, for most of the game, up to around level 25ish or something, the game forces you to use certain characters. Only later are you given the ability to choose the characters you use.

>> No.1695652

>>1695618
>Akiha, for example, has long range attacks and negates damage less than 1000

Less than 4000, at least later on... I don't recall what she negates early on, because I never, ever use Akiha.

This game is FUCKING hard if you've never played a SRW-type game before. I got my ass handed to me on the first level seven times before I figured out that you're supposed to use the Spirit commands EVERY ROUND, and abuse save/reload like a bitch. Otherwise things one-shot you and you die horribly.

>> No.1695795

>>1695766
T Shiki is shit as is. His damage is mediocre and his final is weak. Focus won't protect him from everything alone and he'll die in one or two hits.

>> No.1695796

The game is extremely easy, though that might be because I'm so used to playing SRPGs like Fire Emblem. As others said, just upgrade whoever you like and you'll be set, but a general note that if you like the Tsukihime/Melty Blood cast better, you should pick the super route, and if you like the Fate series better pick the real route.

In the end you can use whoever you want, but your forced to used certain characters earlier in the game depending on if you go super/real, and what I stated above is generally the rule.

Earlier in the game she's pretty much invulnerable to everything but bosses, and can dish out some serious damage.

Later on though, she doesn't scale as well as the other characters who can dish out 10k+ damage with a single attack, and she becomes more of a filler character (though her field attack is pretty nifty).

I used her the entire game though, because Akiha is loev.

Towards the end of the game though, you have so much BP and FP, and every level your allowed to use just about your entire stock of characters, it really doesn't matter much. On top of that, if you're playing the super route, early game you need to buff up Shiki since you'll need to keep him alive all the time. I can see not buffing him up for the Real route (I never did), but theres not really any reason to not use him as a serious character for the Super route.

Archer is a beast. Better base stats, better damage, much better HP, near same good evade and hit. Double mystic eyes attack is comparable to the trio attack of Akiha/Arc/Ciel.

And if you want to add team attacks, I can put Shirou and Sakura in there as well. Rabu rabu projection fist is godlike.

Generally mechs are seperated into two catergories, super and real.

In Super Robot Wars, Supers are mechs that don't dodge quite well but are able to take some punishment.

Reals are units able to dodge well and usually have paper thin armor to match that.

Don't forget that his attacks cover a shitload of area. Since he has no blind spots, buff his speed or defense and send him in the middle of a group of enemies. He's able to deal counter damage to all of them because the area his attacks cover his huge.

>> No.1695944

Don't underestimate the usefulness of buffing the hell out of Len. Her dodge is almost on par with Shiki's, enemies will beeline her and her normal attack halves their to-hit, which leaves them sitting ducks for other people to finish off. Her armor busting attack is also awesome for dealing with bosses. She's practically a requirement to deal with the New Game+ upgraded bosses who have Tough in the 4-5k range.

Len turns Berserker/Gilgamesh/All Tank Bosses into catfood. Situational, yes... but best dodge of every character until Shiki's upgrade (even moreso when you add in her debuff) and even then she's still on par because of her Small ability, she lets other units spam their their best attacks, she naturally comes with SP Recover, and her only bad Spirit is Observe. All she's bad at is dealing damage (which shouldn't matter for a support unit) and low HP (which doesn't matter because she'll never take a hit).
