I kind of wonder how a IN-esque team roster would be like in a modern Touhou game.
Reimu would probably form a team with Kasen.
I don't really know any character from the newer games from the top of my head who could make a good partner with Marisa.
If Sanae were playable, i could see her teaming up with Sumireko because they're both from the Outside World.
If Reisen were playable, she'd probably team up with a LoLK character, any of them could work except maybe Doremy.
While she wouldn't be playable, i could definetly see Mamizou being one of the partners for one of the main characters.

Perhaps, but the topic of this thread is the characters themselves. I'd imagine if the playable characters were bosses in a new game, ZUN would compose something new rather than reuse songs.

This is a matter of opinion, but I think the music from PCB and IN are leagues ahead of EoSD. Only boss theme I really liked from that game was Remilia's, as well as stage 3 and 5. At least those are some of the better songs in the series.

You posted her, but if ZUN is still firm on his "no PC-98" stance, then any Stage 5 boss who hasn't been playable yet. Orin, Shou, Futo, Clownpiece, I'd enjoy all of those choices. Seija would be good too even if she has her own spinoff.

An IN-style game where any of the above Stage 5 bosses paired up with their respective Stage 6 bosses would be even cooler. Then we could have that and Marisa+Mima in the same game, theoretically.

He reused old themes for Reimu and Marisa in IN, and had considered reusing Yuyuko's old theme in TD. Only reason he didn't with the latter is because using a Stage 6 theme against a Stage 1 boss would be pretty far off in tone.

Yeah, I don't really like UN Owen that much. I'm not too big of a fan of the extra boss themes. Only ones I can say stick out in my mind are Yukari, Mokou, and Mamizou's themes.

It's pretty safe to say IN is the exception, not the norm. Look at how many themes Marisa has: four, six if you include Phantasmagorias. That being said, as ZUN said in TD and sort of GFW (Magus Night was originally an arrangement of Witches' Ball), the possibility shouldn't be ruled out.
