She looks okay in photo-shots and she is certainly beautiful but when you see her in camera she has this constant "kill me" expression. The black contact lenses don't help.

Shit source, but source nonetheless. Aoi to go on hiatus from solo music career. Interestingly, her corresponding fanclub for her music will be shutdown by June, and Aoi's wording makes it sound more like an end as opposed to a hiatus. Note that this shouldnt affect character songs for anime or her idol unit, petit milady.
Although this is secondhand, sourceless info, two other things that may be worth mentioning are that supposedly Aoi's latest mini album didnt chart very well and was on the expensive side to produce, which could play into an executive decision with Aoi playing damage control (personally i dont find executive meddling likely, I think Aoi has been treated rather well, but the possibility remains). The second is a post i saw in a seiyuu thread on /a/ today (now 404d) saying that theres been an industry wide downsize regarding talent and their music acts. One other name mentioned was Sphere, the second name escapes me, and the third was Aoi.

Im not privy to where it was advertised, or if at all but iirc i dont believe it had a limited edition, which i think is a fairly common practice. Regarding the expensive production, apparently all instrumentation in the songs are actually all Aoi. They used alot of special microphones to make it so. This was secondhand info from a post on /m/'s Symphogear thread. She also spent most of the winter anime season working on it, i believe her only role was in Youjo Senki during that time.

Between the showcase of the complex setup they had with the dummy head mic which took time to setup, the mention of additional mics, and how he states that a simulation recording for the track "Les Etoiles" (admittedly the hardest track) took a good three days to get done, you can tell the recording of it was quite strict and also on the expensive side of things.
On that note, two of those three days were just Aoi recording the track part by part. He praises Aoi's level of concentration for this.
He also jokes that as far as he is concerned, Aoi was the producer behind the project.

The album was done with a 5.1 sound in mind.(which came with the special edition, the regular one is 2.1 I believe) Aoi also wanted to release a set of white speakers to go with the album that people could purchase through her fanclub. Naturally, this never came to fruitition because it sounds unprofitable and expensive as all hell. Sorry Aoi.

And the problem is, for all this production that was probably above the average in terms of costs, the album received very middling sales. It's actually her lowest selling album.
One can speculate many factors as to why that was the case, like being released last December when we were almost drowning on seiyuu releases, no Anime tie-up for any of the tracks whatsoever, or whatever else.

But personally, as much as I love Aoi even back then I was thinking about how this sort of project even gets green-lighted on the first place.
To me this project seemed unprofitable from the get go, and I was curious about what goes behind the scenes to get it approved. Either because Aoi fares so well on other fields that this amount to "giving back a favor" or because some producers just have a soft-spot for her, which is more common in this industry that you might think. All speculation, as I will never know the answer.

Beyond the base concept of "very popular seiyuu makes an album that's entirely her own voice" Aoi has a very particular sense of aesthetics that is certainly not appealing to the mainstream. It hits a spot in which sometimes it's too sweet, and sometimes it's too dark.

Eh, there are the big voice actors that have been around for a decade now, but every year or few seasons you get one VA that gets popular and does a lot of lead roles after another, but a lot of them unfortunately don't really stick.
Yumiri Hanamori is a newbie I really like, but she's not getting too many roles - she's really young so maybe she has academic commitments, but I'd love to hear more of her. She's only in one show this season I think, as a lead role luckily, but not too much else.

For the most part seiyuu will get the most TV roles right as they become well known, when they're just proven enough to get (and win) auditions but not experienced enough to be paid more, so as soon as you think they've made it they start doing fewer roles.
