The English word for Japan came to the West from early trade routes. The early Mandarin or possibly Wu Chinese (呉語) word for Japan was recorded by Marco Polo as Cipangu. In modern Shanghainese, a Wu dialect, the pronunciation of characters 日本 'Japan' is Zeppen [zəʔpən]; in Wu, the character 日 has two pronunciations, informal (白讀) [niʔ] and formal (文讀) [zəʔ]. (In some southern Wu dialects, 日本 is pronounced [niʔpən], similar to its pronunciation in Japanese.) The old Malay word for Japan, Jepang (now spelled Jepun in Malaysia, though still spelled Jepang in Indonesia), was borrowed from a Chinese language, and this Malay word was encountered by Portuguese traders in Malacca in the 16th century. It is thought the Portuguese traders were the first to bring the word to Europe. It was first recorded in English in a 1565 letter spelled Giapan; (further details).

Pro-tip: Everyone in America is the child of foreigners, unless they're some purebred Native American, in which case they live on a reservation.

Also, Japanese are foreigners, too. They were originally Koreans who settled in Japan.

Also, that's just Japanese propaganda. Same thing with the NAZIs and Aryan racial propaganda.

That would make sense if Japan wasn't actively invading Ainu territory in the 1800's, and only recently recognized them as a minority after hundreds of years of oppression.

European is a collective association. That's the same as saying all Americans are Americans.

Sure, no shit.

But racially, Europe, like America, is a mongrel continent made up of dozens of races that all interbreed.

I don't have a problem with races mixing. The finality of all closed systems is entropy. Genetic entropy, the blending of all available traits, will be the end result no matter what happens. We'll reach a common bloodline at some point, unless we spread out to the stars and begin to breed homogenously again.

I don't find interbreeding to be a problem at all.

If anything, it usually reduces genetic conditions by mixing dissimilar genetic profiles.

However, in the society we live in, social institutions prevent the accurate replication of darwinism as it exists in nature. Strong genetics is no longer rewarded by survival and reproduction. Even people with terminal genetic profiles can live long enough to breed and pass on genes which will reduce the survival ability of the next generation.

Well, this is a problem for another time.

Most Europeans would say they could tell a Brit from a Frenchman from a German by just how they look.

Genetic differences survive to this day. It's not as pronounced as the difference between Arabs and Africans, for instance, but regional genetic bloodlines are still in existence, even though they are dying out with increased inter-regional mixing.

In person, you can generally tell.

It's not an exact science, but meeting enough people you get a sense of their physical appearance enough sometimes to tell if they're Southern or not.

It's harder for some areas because there's so much mobility of families in America, now. But Southerners usually have been here for generations, so it's easier to tell a location.
