I really wonder how the upcoming WTC will be. Umineko is such a big part of me now, I wonder if anything will come close. The characters, setting, mysteries all play a big part in what makes Umineko so special to me. If anyone can do it, it's Ryukishi, but after Umineko he's got big shoes to fill.

Last thoughts before arc 6

-Still feels unsolvable after Meakashi since nobody but Shion really has a motive to murder the entire village

-Takano mostly likely killed Tomitake and faked her death every route. Definitely a baddie but again I have no idea how it ties in to everything. Irie also bad but wouldn't ice the village since he's a lolicon.

-Onikakushi throat scratch syringe exists but K scratches his throat out without being drugged (to my knowledge)

-Satoshi went nuts the year before same as K and Shion in other routes. Had to have been "demoned away" against his will since if he just scratched his throat out the corpse would've been found and if he survived the crazy he would've contacted Satoko. If it wasn't the Sonozakis, as Mion said,then whoever did it must be the culprit seeking to propagate the curse.

-Why deliberately kill Rika-chama the assassin nipah every time? It works from the "propagate the curse" angle but seems silly since everyone's going to die anyway.

Early story Ange. Her separation from life, viewing things (like Maria's magic) as pathetic, and distrust of others hit really close to home. Same with her lack of self-worth.
Seeing her development at the end of the story really warms my heart. Her success and closure gives me hope that I can improve and learn to see things with love, too.

Taking this change in demeanor into account among other things, I wouldn't call Battler a good person. By all means he's the main character of the story but it would be wrong to say he's a "hero" or even of a moral fiber; in fact he's very fickle and dishonest with himself about his emotions.

There's a lot in Episodes 2 and 3 that reveal, even with all of the anger he displays at the murders, he's having a very good time with Beato and even enjoying the mysteries. If you think about how he abandoned his father after his remarriage, it's kind of the same personality traits he's displaying by choosing to elongate the game for Beato's sake make him very selfish. I think this make him a more interesting main character than, say, Keichii, who became entirely two dimensional in the Higurashi answer arcs. By Episode 5 Battler's motivations are to save his family and return to Ange, but really he doesn't know what he wants and is content to drift about at the whims of others.

The problem here is that you're thinking of the gameboards as something created from nothing. The thing is, though, they all share the same past, they all come from the same root. Which means they're all separate possible timelines for the events of Rokkenjima.
What I'm trying to say here is that you're thinking too one-dimensionally. The pieces can both be pawns of the game master and actual people experiencing real thoughts and emotions. Personally I like to think of it as a regular world that Beato tacked some Kinzo posters onto and stole the Battler of.

Reread chapter 2 recently, and Jesus Christ, having Rosa as the culprit does make more sense than the official explanation after all.

Don't get me wrong, I like Shkanontrices execution as a story, and I know the manga directly contradicts Rosatrice, but just look at the way this episode plays out. From beginning to end Rosa takes complete control of the situation while Shannon "mastermind" Beatrice stands around passively like an idiot. That's not how you plan out a mass murder, Shannon. You have to push for the moves that will create weak points you can exploit.

If you think about the way some of the crimes are committed it should be sensible to assume that the mastermind probably wasn't a servant. For instance it doesn't make any sense for Shannon to set up Jessicas murder in such a way that the servants will fall under suspicion, putting her in a position of vulnerability where Rosa could easily cross her. Shannon would have to be an idiot to believe that Rosa, after witnessing the art exhibition Shannon turned her siblings into, would continue to play along and give her and Genji false alibis for Jessicas murder, right? At this point Rosa has already cleared the objective of getting three bars of gold and being rid of her siblings. This is the perfect opportunity for her to shift the balance of power and take Shannon out.

In the alchemist patch folder there should be a couple .rars with custom textbox options. when you extract them it goes bmp>system>msgwnd0.png

Open msgwnd0.png in your image editor of choice and crop whatever image you want into the dimensions of the textbox, save it with the same name and extension. that's basically it.

fonts are just replacing default.tff with whatever font you want and renaming it to "default".

I guess you can also replace .wav files and .mov files this way too.

In hindsight they can refer to it as a game in meta, but it was never presented as a game to the reader. We read it as told through Battler's perspective, with no meta-breaks in between. At least before the Ep1 Tea party, I assert that that game took place in an otherwise unbothered kakera.

It can raise questions as to what is and isn't a gameboard, when you think about Ange in Ep4. Ange in Ep4 is the Ange from the Ep3 kakera, and since we see her whole life with Eva in that world, it can be said that each gameboard/kakera is its own individual reality; but really the Witch's Game didn't begin until Ep1 has reached its conclusion.

So calling Ep1 a gameboard is a bit of a stretch even if they refer back to the murders.

In Ep5 Krauss alludes to doing business with a "Sonezaki Man". I don't know why R07 didn't just say a Sonozaki entrepeneur since that would make more sense but still pretty neat.

Tsumihoroboshi spoilers

The most wonderful part of Tsumihoroboshi is near the climax after Rena has taken the school hostage. The way the rest of the club fights back against her is presented in a really interesting way; Normally fight scenes in Higu are there own isolated events, but this fight scene between Rena and the rest of the club is really reminiscent of their club games. The pacing and lighthearted dialogue in that scene has a lot of callbacks to the club games in the question arcs, and they even talk about who will have to do what penalty game, and it's just really very good. At that late into the series, that scene manages to allow Higurashi to reflect upon itself in a very concise and intelligent way that rewards the reader for partaking in the club activity scenes, which up until then seem to be some of the most boring. The meta world exists in a separate state than the real world. It exists on a completely different plane. To the real world it might as well be fantasy, and nonexistent. Magic isn't real in the real world, where the game boards take place. However that still doesn't change that the meta world can still exist off in it's own world.

I know that the possibilities are many, like that's very typical of well written stories, to have various viewpoints and meaning.
The meta, to me, isn't real, it's only part of the stories written by Beatrice, Battler, Ikuko, or others. These stories and the meta are nothing more than the reflection of what happened in the real world, but adding magical things to it, to beautify it and paint it a little, that's it. It's an allegory of reality and the result of what these people were feeling in the moment they created it. Just like Dante Alighieri wrote a whole journey from hell to heaven only to express an apology to the person he loved his whole life in the real world, to move on.
This is a fictional story, duh, so you can enjoy it like whatever you want and believe in magic if you want, but to me the only real magic that existed in this story was love and also is not like I don't like fantasy, but for some reason Umineko seems to serious to me to look at it like a fantasy, so I choose a more serious answer and that's my decision.

Well that was quite a ride, equal best with Tatarigoroshi for me. Ryu seemed to be chiding the people who rooted for K in Onikakushi, I know I sure did, by making Rena so over the top with her aliens bullshit. Its amazing how good he is at going from fun to horror and back to fun again.

Mystery-wise Takano is evil evil evil and apparently the characters can't get over their Sonozaki family meme theory (I wouldn't put it past Oryou/Kinzo, they're crazy!). I really want to hear what Rika thinks about it and who kills her every loop but she's working on limited information too since she dies before the disaster happens. I almost thought there'd be a happy end but they all die, again.

But here's my super amazing post Tsumihorboshi theory:
-Takano, Tomitake and Irie are the culprits along with Irie's goons I suppose (seen in Onikakushi, Tatrigoroshi, they're the ones who inflict external wounds on Tomitake)
-Takano uses her Junko Enoshima powers to turn someone crazy because Hinamizawan people have brain bugs
-It must be an illness or parasite because of the uniform symptoms of people affected (Shion, Satoshi, Rena and K all experience the paranoia, aggression, extra footstep and eventual throat scratch suicide).
-Thus someone is activated (Satoshi the year before and either K, Rena or Shion after), they commit murder and are then demoned away by Takano and the gang (very easy to hide corpses in Hinamizawa). To propagate the curse. Because Miyo's into that.
-Tomitake, who arrives in Hinamizawa every June (not suspicious), and Irie help Takano because reasons
-It likely went as above during the third and fourth years but the fifth was to keep the police occupied perhaps.
-Takano and Tomitake go into the shrine storage to mark themselves for death (Likely only Takano knows that's what they're doing)
-They leave and Tomitake is made into the curse victim against his will with the magic drug (thanks rika nipah)
-Takano then gets the fug out (Met with K in Tatarigoroshi), leaving a fake corpse in the mountains. She has Tomitake's bike as evidence of her guilt.
-She then prepares everything until the swamp is ready to kill everyone in the village. Again, to propagate the curse cause it gets her off.
-Irie offs himself instead of leaving (No idea why)
-Rika is also killed purposely because shes queen of the brain bugs (thanks rena)

By writing it out it shows still how little I completely understand but this seems to be a good outline from what I know so far. I'm also ignoring Endless 8 old hag Rika chama since it seems unrelated to the mystery and obviously supernatural.

So, the closed room of Kinzo's study was broken, because as Natsuhi might have been checking something in another room of the study, Kinzo could have leapt from the third story window? And this is valid even if he lost his life in the process?

Battler manages to leap from the third story window and land without any injury? Erika seems to have the right idea, but all of the relatives agree that Kinzo could have accomplished this on the grounds of him being THE Kinzo. Maybe I just need more rabu to believe.
