Post your stats

http://arcturus.su/tenhou/ranking/ranking.pl?name=KyuuAA&r=8&d1=20160101&d2=20161231

This includes everything in Tenhou. 7447, L0, etc.

My highlights:
>5dan and tokujou for the first time
>7 yakuman on the year, including chuuren poutou
>7th +100 game
>7447 games with Tenhoui
>the PML tournament

All in all, it's been good year.

Highlights? Getting into Mahjong seriously after years of tossing tiles around like a chump would be the biggest.

Hitting 3Dan
discovering the joy of playing on auto tables
meeting some pretty awesome PML folks that have made the game even better

(btw, norcal or socal? have we met?)

It would be nice if we could win a pinfu hand without riichi but we're still in iishanten and 556p can only produce a shuntsu with the last 7p.
I guess we should defend and the only safe tile against dealer is 6s but if kamicha has toitoi 3dora or toitoi honitsu (we can't see any ton.. wait there are still 2 unseen nan mmh) it's mangan at least.

It's not safe againt the kamicha at all, though.

I'm trying to think about a hand that can make a baiman with these 2 calls but yeah discarding these 1s means he threw his possible toitoi honitsu honroutou haneman for an even bigger hand.
And only shousuushii comes to mind when you see the missing east winds. Or a toitoi pinzu honitsu 3dora akadora tanki when you see the missing 3p dora, at this point it's less likely than the yakuman.
Well, it's easier to see on a picture. I wouldn't think about it in a match maybe.

Well the thing here is unless I ippatsumo, the riichi doesn't do me any good. As you can see I was going for a chin itsu, but at some point you have to know dealing the dora into a riichi can't end well.

>> No.16366176

>>16366164
I meant that dropping the dora earlier into the hand would probably have been the stronger play. sakigiri is earlier discard than normal of dangerous tiles before they become another player's winning tiles. your hand is a hand that you would be happy to fold to defend, but it also has high potential so keeping an explicitly dangerous tile around for longer has much higher risk than reward and would've led to the chance of maintaining tenpai, grabbing iipeikou, or transitioning to a chitoi while discarding safer tiles.

>> No.16366322

>>16366176
I went back and looked at it, and I basically got surprised by the 3rd turn riichi. Since I already had 2 dora in my hand, if I could get a tsumo tanyao I take first. Then those 9 sou kept coming and I ended up where I was.

If I were to dump the 6 pin that early I'm completely abandoning any chance at 1st, and barring a complete collapse I'm not falling to 4th.

Mostly though I just ran out of safe discards. Until I got to that point the only dangerous tile I had dealt was the 3 man, and even that was half-suji.

In general, the make of most Mahjong sets are going to be similar quality-wise unless you're planning on buying either extremely expensive or extremely cheap tiles, so your main concern is probably going to be the color and style of the tiles. Actually giving up and letting 3rd place get ron'd by someone else, pushing them down past you, is a better strategy.
