according to the dictionary, there are times when かかずらう＝かかわる＝こだわる

if it's obviously being used in the こだわる meaning, then I don't think you are wrong regardless of which reading you use

I rarely hear かかずらう used in speech, and most times かかわる is used in the meaning unique to かかわる, not as a synonym to こだわる, so I personally think こだわる is the safest reading

but I'm obviously not a native

I can read manga rather fluently but in the end I still spend more time trying to decipher these fucking sfx and side talks than reading the actual content. Actually just deciphering at all since most scans are utter shit quality.

That's one thing I'll probably come to appreciate once I start reading VNs and LNs.

No, more or less recent stuff.
764x1200 scans have annoyed me lately, as an example, and the sad thing is it seems some labels out there are releasing manga with that resolution as a standard, since that last manga I picked up has this resolution set for all volumes.

It is readable, but I still spend more time deciphering than checking eventual unknown words. This is not really a question of whether I'm good or not either I think, while as a whole I don't consider myself advanced quite yet, when it comes to characters themselves I'm rather good, having learned how to write kanji and all.

Is it possible to hook text from it, did anyone manage to do that?

Tried ITHVNR and got nothing.

Tried Hook Any Text and while I got some text, it doesn't work correctly, it's not adding new text when I keep playing nor does it add anything to the clipboard (it worked fine with another VN I tried though)

Kino is very good but I wouldn't call it addictive. Reading multiple volumes of it in a row feels weird to me, since there is no feeling of "I need to know what happens next". It's more of a once in a while thing for me.

Steeping low here anon. Also I would recommend Zaregoto instead of Monogatari from Nisio. It's more exciting and I assume you've already seen the Monogatari anime so you might have less of a drive to push on since you already know the plot. Oh and if you want to get into Jintai, check out AURA first by the same author. It's only a single volume and probably a bit easier to read.
And yeah, for a whole year that's pretty little. 9 Kino volumes is probably the size of ... one long VN. I wouldn't be too depressed about your listening comprehension not being top tier already with only that much.

Yeah I didn't read as many LNs as I would have liked to, I spent most of the first half of the year reading manga because it was just easier and then I've spent the last two or three months trying to get into VNs and raw anime for listening practice, I also read a countless amount of doujins so it all adds up, just my listening that's lacking really my reading's about as good as I need it to be for the moment

Is it correct? I'm in the process of making my 2017 schedule/routine and I'm planning on reading entire DoJG little by little every day. From the look of it I'll need to read at least 2 a day if I want to finish reading it by 2018... but ideally if I could finish reading it that way in a couple months it'd be better.

Or is there something better out there I could do grammar-wise? Like JLPT N2+N1 books? I have no idea. When I'm reading I don't feel like grammar is really a problem, and even if it ends up being one I can just get my answer through google.jp. I'd just like reinforce my knowledge somehow, since there surely are holes in it.
PS : already read TaeKim obviously and I did all the Visualizing Japanese Grammar lessons which by the way are awesome. Never really used DoJG, and I don't think I'd be interested in the deck since it'd be redundant to always have the cards popping up every now and then.

I'm not sure how to see how much anime I've watched this past year since I'm using MAL, and graph.anime.plus doesn't seem reliable either at first glance, but it's definitely a lot. I always pick up between 20 to 30 shows every season (so this x4), and between seasons I always take the opportunity to marathon 10 or so series from my plan to watch list. I always religiously watch at least minimum 4 to 5 episodes a day since I always do so during my meals/tea breaks.

All in all, trying to get a number of everything I just said in a pretty half-assed way, I get something like 1900(?) episodes, so less than you it seems. As much as I can't stop loving anime I now prioritize reading over watching more anime since I consider my listening comprehension to already be pretty good by now.

It seems like the Tokyo pitch accent for compound verbs is pretty irregular and arbitrary

For short compound verbs of ~4 morae, even if both the constituent verbs are accented, the compound verb often ends up unaccented

For long compound verbs (>5 morae), you hear some speakers give it an accent that matches the final verb, and some give it an accent on the penultimate mora no matter what

The episode count also includes short anime like 2 minute Teekyuu episodes so that will inflate the number a bit. Then again, movies only count as 1 episode so it balances it out a bit

The "meanings" you are given are really just functional placeholders, they will get you by but to grasp the proper meaning and tone you will need to read or hear the word many times in the real world.

I just started using anki after finishing all of my Hiragana and Katakana practice. I had a few questions about the use of flashcards.

Is there a way to have the audio repeat? Its too fast and I find myself wanting to hear it over. I have seen other decks with a repeat audio button.

When you're first starting with the DJT deck, what exactly are you trying to remember? just the pronunciation? It appears very daunting to remember anything more than that (coming from a kanji absolute beginner).

I think it's possible to add a "replay" button to your card templates, but I don't know how to do that. As a temporary solution, you can undo and re-reveal the card.

Reading and meaning, but keep in mind that you won't understand the full meaning of a word solely from Anki. You need to see it used in various contexts to fully understand it. This is probably also why Core definitions tend to be very bare-bones.
There are optional steps that make kanji less daunting, such as studying them separately or doing a radical deck. See what works best for you.

Names are a nightmare. With experience you can probably make a good guess, but you can never be sure unless you are specifically told how to read it.

It is slower indeed but not that slow either compared to other generals I have bookmarked. One lasts from one to two months and the other one 10 days or so. When DJT was still on /a/ I remember often scrolling through the thread only to find worthless arguments after arguments, so more posters doesn't necessarily equal better thread.

It's true though that we perhaps had a bit more diversity... but perhaps not either. We have 105 IPs right now, it's fairly similar if not higher to what we had if I'm not mistaken.
Lastly on a more personal level I'm glad things are that way because it makes me procrastinate less. I recall having /a/'s DJT opened all day sometimes and it was definitely not a good thing. I can understand that for someone who wishes to chat and spend a lot of time on 4chan this change was bad, but personally I can't really see anything negative about this.

I learned how to write via RTK like a year ago so I know how kanji are written just by looking at them. It's not something you'll forget once you learn it, it's a one time thing. I wouldn't recommend RTK unless you're a beginner though, if you're already and actively into the process of learning and reading then I'd recommend to perhaps learn radicals and work your way through that.

I personally do anki and read until I'm able to read fluently, and then I'll starting producing like talking to Japanese and writing.

Hey guys, quick question regarding the 2k/6k deck on the DJT guide website. Is there a reason it's not in a particular frequency order? Wouldn't it make more sense to start with the most frequent words, and not just random words within the deck? Thanks.

Oh, I misunderstood his post. By "the words went by too fast" I thought he was talking about the audio and using the subs as a crutch. I've already watched Tatami Galaxy subbed years ago, but to me the entire point of rewatching shows is getting listening practice, so if I can't even follow what the characters are saying, I'll leave it for when I'm 上手er.

People who give up after a month?

Or people that settle for forever intermediate?

There are these people who learn Japanese for decades and claim fluency, but they can't even read a newspaper, and guess at things all the time.

It's funny how people in here talk about how 90% of the people here won't even be fluent.

Well of the 10% that stick with it, 90% of them won't keep studying past a certain level.

They will be forever N1-level, but never native-like.

I'm at 4 years now and I can say I can actually read like a native.

But only because I actually studied the entire 4 years and pushed myself.

I didn't give up and watch easy anime and read easy manga without a dictionary after a year or two.

Just because you made it into the 10% does not mean you will make it into the 1%.

Changed the port from 49600 to 49500 and it somehow worked (I have no idea why since I don't know shit about UDP ports but it did).
