aside from previous stated reasons (gameplay, lore, and character design), I like how both of them are fairly practical and intelligent characters. Eirin is Reisen's master and teacher, so I enjoy that dynamic. I'm currently studying Engineering at a top (ish?) university, so I can appreciate how Eirin's insanely smart and how Reisen is inordinately sensible by Touhou standards. A smidgen of my initial draw towards Reisen probably has something to do with how I was on a rifle team for two years, as well.

She's the first stage boss from Story of Eastern Wonderland.
She invades the Hakurei shrine while Reimu is away and rigs it full of cannons, enemies and other stuff she built. The midboss of the stage is a shrine-shaped tank she created. Later you fight another tank, this time with her piloting it. The tank has a floral motive.

She reappears in the Extra stage having built a more sophisticated flying tank called Evil Eye Sigma (pic related), which is actually a pretty tough fight.

Since this was early on the PC-98 era ZUN didn't really care about plot, so her motives for antagonizing Reimu are unknown. Her theme song is called "She's in a temper!!", so perhaps she just hates Reimu for no reason.

The statistics on the sources are a bit odd.
Batching roughly doubles the average of R-18 images ratio, and surprisingly LOLK scores the highest, whereas MOF scores among the lowest despite sporting a turbo-slut like Sanae (who is number 2 in regards to total number of lewd pictures).
The Pareto chart on the number of NSFW pictures shows that, at least in terms of porn, Touhou is declining

Pixiv's tagging inconsistency problem can be solved by either using the character name only and doing a wildcard research. By some tests I did, the amount of pictures that aren't counted using this method is very low and arguably of statistical insignificance. Anyway, the script I wrote supports looking for multiple tags for the same character, so it's possible to also consider misspelled tags or pictures tagged only with the surname.
On the other hand, Danbooru filtration effect on the data is not amendable and it heavily skews the data towards NSFW, since those are usually higher quality and therefore get uploaded more frequently.

it's how danbooru sorts their pictures, every picture gets either a "safe", "questionable", or "explicit" tag. Questionable stuff ranges from VERY suggestive clothing to full nudity, and explicit is more or less anything more. The boundary lines are pretty blurred, but less so between safe and questionable than questionable and explicit. As someone who does, despite having (not much) more characterization than say, Koakuma or Lily White, a lot of her personality is up in the air, so you're still somewhat stuck trying to piece together a coherent character from the scraps you get.

Thank you for this thread OP, it is really interesting. I'm rather surprised there aren't more lewds of Rinnosuke, I'd figure quite a few artists would use him as a self-insert of sorts in explicitly pornographic artwork. However, there is a bit of a flaw: there are quite a few images on Danbooru that are rated safe and on Pixiv that aren't R-18 that are still very lewd, but they still manage to slip by. While this analysis is not perfect, you all have done a very good job by qualifying questionable and explicit on Danbooru as lewd and R-18 on Pixiv as lewd. In fact, this is probably the best way we have to quantify "lewd" vs "safe for work" artwork that we have by using a computer. We could theoretically do a manual job with hundreds of volunteers, but that would take an absurdly long time and the lewdness of a picture would be in the eye of the beholder, so to speak.
