They werent really a "Fight" the first time he didnt know jack shit about his true magic so all he did was run around. And for the second time he had Rider fight for him then snuck in for the killing blow.

God yes, I loved the Rin Prologue with her Summoning Archer and making him her bitch. Seriously though, Rin and Archer had more chemistry in the prologue than Shirou and Saber and Rin and Shirou did in the game. (Have not played HF yet.)

Plus we would have virgin Tsundere with older, mentally unstable man and it would have been hot.

As well as Lancer and Ayako routes.

Because Shirou is Archer, he just ends up as tsundare as Rin (except cynical).

And so he loves Rin as Rin loves him since he is Shirou.

And if you look at it, it really mirrors Fate with Rin thinking about Archer the same way Shirou does about Saber with the difference being Rin CAN actually do something about it since Shirou not dying on the top of a horse in England about 1000 years in the past.

But Rin as the main character with Archer would have been awesome.

Besides, they had to have been fucking in Fate. The threesome with Saber VS her sex scene in UBW. In Fate when she tells Shirou to take off his clothing she's impressed with his size, but not surprised. In UBW she's scared of the size of his . . . sword.

And Rin was openly mourning Archer after his death in Fate.

So, I think it would safe to say they were screwing.

The only person going to save Rin was Lancer. Which it also could be argued that Archer knew it was going to happen. Because he figured Lancer was holding back in their fight because of what Rin said to him and knew that Lancer was already quite taken with her.
